asking permission to create my ELECTRONICA channel (User Poll by enoch)
Interesting to see we have so many electronica fans here. I'm definitely for it.
I only rediscovered electronica a three or four years back, basically when I found pandora. I do remember being shocked when I stumbled over the Wikipedia page listing all the subgenres of electronica. How in the hell can there be ~200 defined subgenres? That question haunts me almost as much as the fact that there is not only a genre for viking folk metal, but there are enough such bands that someone can make a 10 best list. Has the whole world gone mad?
Jacques Magazine presents Tori
I'll upvote your second comment choggie, that made me laugh.
The images you've planted in my head from the first of the two though, are going to haunt me for the rest of my life.

This song has haunted me all day.
Moby - Mr. Plow Hip Hop Remix
Moby is annoying, yes, but an overachiever? He duped a generation into buying one album, which still haunts me to this day. I guess that is overachieving.
Jason vs. Skeletons - Jason & the Argonauts 1963
This is the one with the gaint octopus at the bottom of the pit under a bridge... the top of said pit inhabited by... spiderwebs/spiders, yes?
That image haunts me to this day, wherever it's from. I feel like I saw it in this movie on TBS. It wasn't Clash of The Titans, although that was great as well...
Ponceleon's Identify the Movie Challenge (Terrible Talk Post)
Not Altered States... I thought that was it a few years ago as well and when I saw it it wasn't...

Guy gets penis bitten off (Wtf Talk Post)

Landing Gear Fails while Pilot pulls up on Runway
You're judging without knowing what the hell is going on in the video.
Dammit, once again my decision not to learn Russian comes back to haunt me. It's too bad, I really would like to know exactly where "pilot skill" comes into play in riding down a runway in a jet powered sled.
Facebook as the Afterlife (Blog Entry by dag)
I keep off of facebook for that reason...it'd be more of a hell for me. Allowing those who I've fucked over in the past years to come back and haunt me. I start fresh for a reason...
Aint No Water In This Gun

The Atheist Delusion
>> ^rottenseed:
>> ^residue:
how about this. If you're an atheist, stop being so fucking pompous about it. Why are there so many damn videos and comments on the sift that bash other people's religion for fun. It's juvenile and pointless.
beedebeedlebeeldebeelde are you drunk again?
my tainted past comes back to haunt me, who's juvenile now? beepbeep
thanks rottenseed

good point about evidence, but the problem in the circumstance for religion, is that there isn't any evidence either way really. It's impossible to prove the non-existence of anything.
Scientific evidence and religious interpretations are often interpreted to conflict when they really don't need to. For example, sure there is strong evidence that evolution occurs and has been for millions of years, but that is not evidence against any religion, it's just a theory to explain phenomena we witness, not evidence supporting or denouncing any religion. I suppose it comes down to how literally you interpret whatever religion it is you choose to follow. Christianity seems to be pretty metaphorical in my opinion.
At any rate, I was just curious why there is such a strong, forceful anti-religion emotion around here, and I think I've gathered my answer for the most part. Ridicule of things you find absurd is nothing new, it's just there has just been a very strong chant of hoo-ray for atheism around here lately.
edit:
by the way, since the strong complaint seems to be that "religious people need stop forcing their beliefs on me because it's annoying," you should understand why those of religious orientation would be frustrated at the attempts of atheists to "help" those of religious orientation by showing them how "dumb" they are. There's PLENTY of that both in the real world and online.

How do you think anonymity affect VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)
It really depends on which website you're talking about. I'm fairly trusting of siftopia, which means I'm very relaxed and break the anonymity pretty explicitly (full name on my profile an such). In a way, I know that no one from here will ever come to haunt me outside videosift - maybe except a certain someone from poole - and thus I can be pretty open with what I think and feel.
In a way then the pseudo-anonymity adds a layer of protection from the dangerous world out there and the crazies in it.
As Thylan notes, I don't think that the cartoon is the norm here, but there are certainly users it applies to, such as all the trolls. No one would be a troll if dag tracked them down and called their parents every time. (Yay, way to quote precedent).

Wait, is there a secret super-charter membership that gives you access to the viola?
The lack of an edit function comes back to haunt me.

I lost both my grandfather and uncle in just a short span of 3 months. It really sucks, but you'll recover. Just remember to do and say what you need to, while he's still around with you. I never got to do that with mine and it still comes back to haunt me sometimes.
Best regards.
