60 teens vandalizing and looting Walgreens

JiggaJonson says...

I'm not saying we're all guilty of something, or that everyone is to blame. But Bob's "joke" isn't really a joke, it's not calling out the morality of anything these people are doing, it's just two back to back stereotype slurs.

Have you ever seen a thief take a job application? Take a greeting card?

Those things have nothing to do with what's happening here, it's just an attempt to reenforce racial bias under the guise of being a joke.

Yes. None of us are innocent.

What Happens To Good Cops?

BSR says...

Do you not understand that he gave you a very precious gift. He gave you his problem whether you know it or not.

How do you know he's not remorseful now? It's been 30+ plus years.

You're a fact guy. Check the facts if that's what you need. But that means you'd have to face your fears. Find him. That's the only way you will know for sure if he remorseful. Do you have the guts to face him again? I doubt he would send you a greeting card.

But you still have another problem. If he's dead already you will still need to forgive him. You will still have his anger. His death will not take away the hate.

You need to do this for yourself otherwise you will pass the anger onto someone else to find the answer you're not capable of. You may even pass it on to the people you love the most.

In short, you're just another bad cop. You have become the very thing you hate. You are abusing the power you have.

SHIT! Look at the clock. We're never going to make it to OZ on time!

Write that down. We can use it later.

newtboy said:

Forgiven? Absolutely not. Forgiveness without any indication of remorse is acceptance, and his actions were and are unacceptable.
30+ years ago. I would bet he doesn't remember it, seemed like a normal everyday thing for him to violently threaten someone's life, then threaten their safety and freedom if they dared to complain. It also seemed that he accepted zero responsibility for his mistake or actions, like most cops. It was somehow my fault he misread my clean license plate, so what would he have to regret?

Lethal Injections: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

BSR says...

The kit comes with hoses and a plastic bag that goes over the head and sealed around the neck.

Some kits also come with assorted Hallmark suicide note greeting cards with common messages of regret, blame, etc. to round out the experience.

newtboy said:

How big was the room? How well sealed? It has to displace enough of the oxygen long enough to drown you. You really don't wanna get 1/2 way, run out, and survive with brain damage, that's probably not going to help with whatever problem made you try suicide in the first place.

Side note...we are running out of helium, and it's needed for science. Please don't waste it killing yourself people, any gas that displaces oxygen should do the trick.

Back in Black - Social Media Helps Measles Make a Comeback

StukaFox says...

You're right: it doesn't achieve much because it doesn't go far enough. These people should be openly mocked, ridiculed and humiliated. Every time they open their stupid mouths, someone with a bullhorn should shriek, "That's interesting, BUT YOU'RE A FUCKING MOUTH-BREATHING, BOTTOM-FEEDING, DRIBBLING, DROOLING MORON!" three inches from their cow-like faces. They should get anonymous phone calls at 3:00am, "IDIOT, it's GET-A-FUCKING-EDUCATION-O'-CLOCK!". Gales of derisive laughter should greet their every utterance until they're so phobic of speaking again that they finally just shut the fuck up.

Maybe then, when the concept of "being ashamed of being stupid" is thoroughly drilled into their putty-like brain, we can be done with this anti-vaccine bullshit.

ChaosEngine said:

As much as I approve the message, and as fun as it is to call pro-plague people idiots, I’m not sure if this actually achieves much.

There’s plenty of research that says that this kind of antagonistic approach just entrenches people further in their views.

The Last Starfighter - Redone VFX Teaser

Andre The Giant's disease that ended his life.

Ashenkase says...

We both knew who we were looking at when we were about 50 meters away, it was hard to miss the man, he was immense and even more "immenser" to a 10 year old. I think my sister got more of a kick out of Curious George and his green tongue.

We where walking out of the prop plane area and about to cross a checkpoint into the bigger part of the airport to grab our bags. Andre was chatting with the security guards.

Both of us were stand-offish at first but he caught our eye and extended a brief greeting, I had the sense that he and Curious George were about to catch a flight as he was wrapping up his conversation.

Can't forget that voice either, so deep but very calm and kind.

He immediately became my favourite wrestler from then on, even through the Hulk Hogan era.

Ah, you guys went without adults. What did your sister say about him? Did she even know who he was? Export your memories!

Greetings, and a provisional welcome to the sift.

I second the advice you've already received. Post videos, if people like them they will upvote. Don't post your own videos or you will be banned.

When I first started it took me a week or two to get one vid sifted I think... it takes a while until people are sure you're not promoting your own vids, and you'll tend not to get many votes during that time.

p.s. If Orange Sky is your youtube channel, you'd better discard the two vids from there and find other vids to post instead. You discard by putting a comment on the video that reads *discard

I take all that to heart.

In my native language and for me any woman under my age is a girl AND any man or woman taking part in sports and games is a boy or girl. They would be greeted and befriended in a much less formal manner than, for example during an opera performance intermission in the theatre hallway or in a workplace setting. For me girls running around on skis with guns are girls, I dont think of them as world class athletes but as ordinary people doing something enjoyable and rewarding.

I have trouble being entirely serene in the face of political correctness, so do feel free to correct my errors if I am found wanting in this area, even if I sometimes may appear to not take things seriously. Just a disclaimer.

"Edit this video" is now hidden in a menu that appears when you hover over your name above your video (Eric told me). Thanks.

Ah! Excuse me for being vague.

Girl is a young person. Age 17 or less.

A woman is a world class athlete.

If you want to fix it, look for the words "edit this video" underneath the video, bottom left.

Click on that and you can fix your description. If you want to.

How the Alt-Right Trolls

The Game that is pissing off the Alt Right

draebor says...

There's a legal reason for that. In Germany, the law prohibits the distribution or public use of symbols of unconstitutional groups (flags, insignia, uniforms, slogans and forms of greeting) as part of an effort to 'de-nazify' the national culture following the end of WW2. The Wolfenstein games are chock-full of these symbols. You can see the effects of the law on other WW2-themed games as well, like War Thunder.

JustSaying said:

Maybe the alt-right idiots should move tro germany. The first Wolfenstein is banned (still) and all following games are heavily censored or outright banned as well. And it's not just for the violence. Since Return to Castle Wolfenstein all games have removed Nazi insignia so you don't kill Nazis anymore but other made up groups instead (in RtCW the Nazis were renamed into the Wolves IIRC). The New Colossus contains all the violence in germany but no swastikas or SS runes.
What a load of Bullshit.

What's really going on in the NFL

newtboy says...

Bob, please, for God's sake, learn about your country.
Using your platform to peacefully express your personal politics...nothing could be more American or more pro-American values.
You are dissing the flag and the freedom it stands for by trying to infringe on their rights to speak and protest peacefully....but you stand up for murderous white supremacists and secessionists (true pure anti-Americans) who you believe should have immunity and the public's understanding because they're protesting statue removals.
Shameful, disgraceful...and ignorant.

Edit: Because I'm certain you don't know, the taking a knee thing was a suggestion from a Marine as a way to protest and show respect to the flag and servicemen. It's how they greet fallen soldiers. It's not anti flag, anti America, or anti soldier/police. That's all 100% misdirection being used to divide by those who benefit from division.

This is a disgrace... NFL playing politics displaying anti American values.

They are dissing the Flag and the national anthem by not standing or linking arms. Shameful.

Is There an Alternative to Political Correctness?

Diogenes says...

I look at it in a simple way: words having meanings; people have motivations. A conversation has a context, and in your example the passerby isn't aware of that context. If she chooses to eavesdrop and feels offended, well, while I do feel sorry for her...it's really not any of her business what you and your brother are conversing about. You might as well turn to her, give her a once-over and criticize her choice of pantsuit. She doesn't know you; she didn't ask for your opinion; and your retort probably made her upset.

Should people try to be aware of their surroundings and try not to say inappropriate things? Of course, but that's just common courtesy...like not commenting on a funky smell at a funeral visitation. Political correctness is fine if we all agree, but we usually don't. And therefore we get people who virtue signal over others because they refuse to kowtow to the newest linguistic fashion.

Now, I'm a fairly polite guy. I hold open doors, give up my seat, offer to carry heavy packages, smile, wave and nod greetings to many strangers, etc. Yet I still occasionally get someone who disagrees with my legitimate use of a term (as I understand its meaning). Generally, I still apologize...but I don't then re-evaluate my language ability. I'm not willing to let the connotations of words take on new, questionable-yet-popular meanings.

I've had a Native American friend laugh at me for asking what he preferred I say: redskin, indian, aboriginal, first people, etc. I've also asked a "retarded" person if they preferred if I said "intellectually challenged." He preferred retarded because...wait for it...he had a lot of trouble saying the other one. Now that's irony.

I think my heart's in the right place. I was taught to be polite, and I try to be at all times. But it gets under my skin to have a total stranger "chastise" me when they know nothing about me. Frankly, I find it more offensive to interrupt and belittle a stranger than it is to overhear some stranger's questionable utterance.

SDGundamX said:

Now let's assume this happens in a parking lot as we're standing outside my brother's car and a woman passing by overhears my comment and chastises me for equating stupid actions with people who have mental disabilities.
