McCain Concedes Loss to Obama

Throbbin says...

^Sagemind - I had similar thoughts at the beginning. I originally thought the Republicans knew they were going to lose this one, and put McCain forward because they couldn't have Romney, Thompson, or Giuliani losing *GASP* to a black man. It would have too much impact on "teh base" if that were to happen, so the hard-core righ-wingnutters put forth McCain as the sacrificial lamb.

However, I don't think your suspicions could translate into a real "plan". The spectre of Bush will haunt us forever - and rest assured that in 2012 there will be many, many Democratic Ads out featuring Bush, Cheney, Palin, Bolton, Rumsfeld, and Gonzalez. That's not too far off, and we will never forget that Obama is a better President than those people were.

Are The Other Parties On Your State's Ballot? (Election Talk Post)

joedirt says...

Check out Colorado's ballot. Apparently it is easy to run for president there.
By the way, expect long lines in CO and OH. The CO ballot is insane, and OH voters will have a ton to vote on. THREE pages.

Alberto Gonzales: Lying Liar Mashup

bcglorf says...

I have one question. Where's the evidence. Even the senators involved admit they have nothing. I am sick and tired of these fishing expeditions.
Fishing expedition?
James Comey, the acting AG while John Ashcroft was hospitalized, testified that Gonzalez came down to ask Ashcroft to override a decision by Comey. Ashcroft responded that he wasn't the AG, and that he'd have to ask Comey. When Gonzalez was asked about that meeting, here's the back and forth:
Q:Did the president ask you to go?
A:We were there on behalf of the president of the united states.
..repeat...
Q:Why can't you answer the question?
A:That's the answer I can give you.
The evidence that Gonzalez tried to go around Comey's decision as AG is Comey's own first hand testimony. He was in the hospital room when Gonzalez went down there. Gonzalez refuses to answer any question about who sent him to override that decision.
All of the other BS Gonzalez goes through has the same story. Something bad happens. Gonzalez either can not remember, or refuses to answer all questions about the matter. It's utterly sickening to anyone who cares about honesty or accountability in any way whatsoever.

Alberto Gonzales: Lying Liar Mashup

bamdrew says...

Arlen Specter's (R-PA) questions were very good (one of them at t-3:50); he is a former district attorney, so it wasn't surprising. But every single one went unanswered, including a question about Constitutional Law in general, and another about a capital punishment death sentence Att Gen Gonzalez signed off on recently (clips from this appear towards the end). It was wild. Sen. Specter was getting upset. Specter noted that he still remembers from his District Attorney days every detail of every capital punishment case he ever signed off on. He earns another gold star for effort in my book.

... again, thats conservative Republican Sen. Arlen Specter I'm talking about. Its not conservative vs. liberal, its American justice system vs. cover-ups.

And keep in mind all these clips are from a single hearing appearance, not from someone hunting around for clips to support a particular position.

Countdown Special Comment: Bush, Cheney Should Resign

>>> I dislike Olbermann, an insincere, smarmy prick if ever there ever was one on the air. I can't believe even the leftists who like his op-eds can stand him. Keep an eye on him here:

http://www.olbermannwatch.com/

>>> I hate to begin with Slick Willie, but all this concern over the Libby non-issue weighs less than a feather when compared to the last-day-in-office pardons of Bubba.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Clinton_pardons_controversy

>>> Reviews of recent history demonstrate to me that Democrats, the silly cult of personalities they are, don't give a rat's patoot about the rule of law. There's also the fiasco with Gonzalez over the dismissal of U.S. Attorneys in 2006, which was perfectly legal. Why Gonzalez, who did nothing wrong, didn't tell critics to politely f-off is beyond me. But he didn't, and now he too is stuck in a pointless Democrat snare wasting time, money and energy over a non-issue.

I voted for bush, I'll admit it. I've even defended several of his questionable decisions, even though I was over in the Gulf myself at the time. To my knowledge, Mr. Libby's supposed "crime" about revealing in identity of a CIA member wasn't necessarily a crime at all, because the CIA member wasn't even an agent. They were not someone who was in deep cover, if anyone wanted to find out who they were, it would be a simple matter of looking them up.

>>> I believe you are correct in your assessment of the Libby fiasco. To me it was nothing more than a political witch hunt.

Perhaps I'm wrong about what happened with the CIA member and Mr. Libby, but the very fact that Bush would release that man from jail before the appeals process had even started is against everything this justice system was created for. It is in a word : wrong. To the very core of the word.

>>> Libbygate means little or nothing to me; whether the man goes free or rots in prison has no bearing on the fate of the country. Keeping the scum in Gitmo locked up is more important.

>>> I voted for Bush, or rather, against these socialist tools the Victicrats keep offering up. Yeah, Bush has let all of us down one way or another, it's true. He's really a liberal with a few conservative tendencies. He's failed to secure the border, failed to vaporize what needs vaporizing in the Middle East and though he wouldn't have much pull even if he was for ending Drug Prohibition, his past abuses of alk and coke have left no mark of compassion on failed drug policy for those still being locked up for life over a joint.
For all his faults, Bush is nowhere close to being the chimera the moonbat left has tried to create of him. Why should I take anything the left has to say seriously? They remain in complete denial over the war on islamofascism and how tax cuts create wealth.

>>> Hamilton said corruption was the grease of democracy. Focus on what matters to you.

Senator Leahy rips Gonzalez a new one over Maher Arar tortur

bluephoenix says...

it pisses me off when guys like Gonzalez don't give a crap about the individual rights and freedoms that are SUPPOSED to be guaranteed by the Constitution. it's good to see at least someone cares.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Ben Franklin said that in 1759, and it's inscribed in the Statue of Liberty. i don't think Bush or Gonzalez has ever heard it.
