Senator Leahy rips Gonzalez a new one over Maher Arar tortur
I really hate these weasel wording, stalling assholes. Gonzalez can choke on a bag of c***s.
Siboney by Ernesto Lecuona: Cuban Masterpieces (piano)
Still struggling for that vote.
A good Ruben Gonzalez story:
Gonzalez had thought he had retired in 1996, when US guitarist Ry Cooder asked him to join in the Buena Vista Social Club recordings. Despite suffering from arthritis and being too poor to own a piano at the time, he was said to be overjoyed, and every morning waited outside the studio before it opened. The pianist so impressed Cooder and co-producer Nick Gold that he was persuaded to record the solo album Introducing Ruben Gonzalez.
The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (crazy animation)
The Knife is an electronic indie duo from Sweden formed in 1999. The band consists of brother and sister Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer.
One of the group's distinguishing characteristics is their unwillingness to cooperate with the media or the mainstream music scene. The group rarely makes public appearances, most of their promotional photos feature the members wearing masks, and until recently, they outright refused to perform live concerts.
The group gained greater notoriety in late 2005 when José González covered "Heartbeats" on his 2003 album, Veneer. The song was then used for Sony's Color Like No Other BRAVIA commercial and was released as a single in early 2006.
The Knife's song "We Share Our Mother's Health" from their album, Silent Shout, was featured by the iTunes store as a free song of the week in late 2006. Another video is avaliable on the sift for "Like a pen".
Heartbeats & Hand On Your Heart (Jose Gonzalez)
The first time I heard this song, like most people I suspect, was in the famous Sony Bravia ad. I had no idea it was a cover and went out and bought Gonzalez's album which, though good, is a bit repetitive I thought. I love The Knife version so thanks for the linkage, and the colored spheres in the video make me wonder if maybe Sony was . . . inspired by it.
The Knife - Heartbeats
This is the original version of the Heartbeats song written by The Knife, that's been covered by Jose Gonzalez and used in the Bravia advertisements. I felt revealed to find out that it was Knife who did it originally, because Jose's other songs really were quite terrible and I wondered how he could have come up with Heartbeats. I wonder how Knife feels about their song being used for such a huge advertising campaign given that they are so anti-music industry and all... Also I believe this song has the best lines ever...
My sentiments exactly. Anyway I think this was posted recently, but it died or something, anyway am gonna give it a go because I love the video.
