Teachers Sabotage Don’t Say Gay Law By Following It

JiggaJonson says...

Teacher here. It's made-up-nonsense. I don't give a shit what gender or sexual orientation a kid is and im CERTAINLY not going to try to convince anyone to change anything about themselves.

That said, I'm going to acknowledge that gay/trans people exist in authorship and literature as it arises. You can't read someone like Whitman (Leaves of Grass, arguably America's greatest poet) and not come across references to sexuality either implicit or explicit. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45472/i-sing-the-body-electric

It becomes relevant in passages like this:

5
This is the female form,
A divine nimbus exhales from it from head to foot,
It attracts with fierce undeniable attraction,
I am drawn by its breath as if I were no more than a helpless vapor, all falls aside but myself and it,
Books, art, religion, time, the visible and solid earth, and what was expected of heaven or fear’d of hell, are now consumed,
Mad filaments, ungovernable shoots play out of it, the response likewise ungovernable,
Hair, bosom, hips, bend of legs, negligent falling hands all diffused, mine too diffused,
Ebb stung by the flow and flow stung by the ebb, love-flesh swelling and deliciously aching,
Limitless limpid jets of love hot and enormous, quivering jelly of love, white-blow and delirious juice,
Bridegroom night of love working surely and softly into the prostrate dawn,
Undulating into the willing and yielding day,
Lost in the cleave of the clasping and sweet-flesh’d day.

----------------------------------
Maybe a conversation like:

"'Love flesh swelling' like he's in love with some woman and they...he...?"

"Probably not, he didn't have any serious female relationships as far as I am aware."

"But the title is 'The female form'"

"Well, it's possible, but it's not likely the case that he was talking about himself being in love with a woman. This poem is in the text but he wrote many other pieces about he-himself falling into and out of love with various men and we have letters documenting those relationships with his male significant others. Although, I'm not sure what to call them because gay marriage would have been illegal at the time. He's likely writing the poem in a way where he appreciates the female form and sees men who are drawn to it like the way I appreciate watching bees act obsessively driven to the middle of flowers. I like watching Bees in action, but that doesn't mean I'm going all pollen crazy, still I appreciate it for what it is."
-------------------

This is an example of how discussion of sexuality would come up in my classroom as I imagine it. Note how I'm not trying to convince the kid I'm talking to to turn gay like it's a big game of rainbow-red-rover or something. Nevertheless, knowing the author's sexual preference in this instance informs our understanding of the piece.

My own personal theory?
The people railing against things like this are the same shitheads that can't be bothered to read ANYTHING and instead giggle and guffaw at "hurhurhurhur he hadd'a boner" where I get to live an early stage of Idocracy.

Also, I agree that the "funky stuff" shouldn't be just avoided altogether. For goodness sake, just let teachers have the difficult conversation that everyone is avoiding. Reminds me of when Peggy Hill was struggling to say "Penis" when she was assigned sex ed.

first, how prevalent are these gay symposiums?

been through several flights of kids and yet to hear of one elementary teacher leading a colloquy on homosexuality. very unlikely it's ever been a thing or was so mild or explained deftly it never became a thing.

and no doubt if there was, would have heard about it. case in point:

was asked, "what does 'funky stuff' in the song mean?"

"don't know sweetie. probably slang for 'love'. I'll look it up on the internet."

they listen and ask about EVERYTHING! no more Rick James on the ride home.

***come to think of it, probably wouldn't mind the help.***

When you are the electronic music snob like me, you tend to say things like, that's not trance, that's electro house...then at the end of the day it's the difference between taking a cock in your mouth or taking one in your ass.

That's good stuff. Kind of trancey, which I enjoy, even if trance itself gets too gay at times. After more than half an hour I tend to find a cock in my mouth. I even downloaded WimAmp like you suggested. I haven't had WinAmp on any computer of mine in ages, but the Milkdrop2 visualization made it worthwhile. Should I try another salvia trip while watching it? Mmm, maybe not. I don't want the floor to turn into a hand that's trying to grab me again.

That's some funky stuff. It's all over the place. He makes it work though.

Check this song out, I know you like some of that funky electronic stuff. I like to listen to this on winamp with the milkdrop2 visualizations. I recommend getting it if you don't have it already...

I don't know if you like hip hop mashups with heavy sampling, but if you do then you might like this work from Girl Talk (Gregg Gillis):

http://www.illegal-art.net/allday/

It's a completely free download, so if you don't like it you've lost nothing but the time you spent listening to it. I know some people consider this type of music a novelty, but not all novelties are bad, are they? I wouldn't want to listen to it all day, but it's a nice diversion. It's amazing how many different artists he samples. Give it a try.

Why buying a Mac is simply fucking rediculous. (Blog Entry by MarineGunrock)

Yeah but how is that any better than buying a nice PC and the equivalent software? It's fucking six of one, half dozen of the other, except with PC you get more choice.

You find me equivalent software.

I can't.

Really.

There's nothing that's half as good as iMovie and iDVD for creating movies/dvds easily and yet with nice flexibility to do funky stuff when wanted.

I cannot at all vouch for whether they are good with a wide range of media formats, but I find it hard to think they could possibly be worse than Windows DVD Maker which dies at the 99% mark without prior warning with all sorts of media formats.

Mine Craft - The World's Greatest Game? (Videogames Talk Post)

vairetube says...

Right now its basically sandbox worldcraft using a limited array of textured blocks.

Soon, the developer has planned implementing NPC's, mining for ore to get resources, different gameplay modes, like where you have to build structures during a day cycle and fend off zombie attack at night.

It's only been in dev for two months and its one swedish guy working on it. The simplicity has me hooked.

Oh, also, you can instantly reskin your character however you choose, once you purchase. I guess this is only interesting if you like making up your own fun. You can run your own server easily, public or private, and since it's all java and broswer, your friends can help you build. You can kick people or ban them from your server if they mess around. You can save levels easily.

Im taking screenshots ill see what i can post... ahh here, my buddy made himself a storm trooper skin heh, and he found a cow too.

I didnt get any shots of what we'd been working on with serious intent.. all this stuff is just experimenting.

I guess you can also import old doom levels somehow?

Also in the pictures, bear in mind.. the world goes just as deep as it does high.. filled with caverns and ore and lava and.. well thats about it at the moment. The maps can generate some really funky stuff! its not all islands beach and water... cities pop up too.

remember ...there are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world (well, once they're implemented ~)

thank you for your time!

MythBusters: CPU vs GPU.. or Paintball Cannons are Cool!!!

Quboid says...

It's a good video, but it is misleading. This was at an nVidia sponsored event, correct? Generally upgrading your GPU is a good help if you're a gamer (and if you're watching this you probably are) but this does sort of suggest that GPUs are just far faster than CPUs and it's not black and white. Technically it's right in that GPUs will do this quicker, but only because these tasks are very simple and there's a large number of them. If you were trying to model a physics theory then a CPU will generally be better at taking that one single task, chewing on it and spitting out one single result as the 196 processors on my new nVidia GTX 260 would spend all their time waiting for some other processor to finish a calculation which it needs the result for. Graphics is different, I game with about 2 million pixels needing processed at least 40 times a second so each processor can largely work on it's own batch of pixels.

The right coder with the right compiler can use GPUs for some funky stuff and CPUs will continue to increase the number of cores on each chip too. I've heard of some research places using game consoles as both their CPU and their GPU are dirty cheap (as MS or Sony is footing the bill, expecting to make it up from commission on game sales).

Anyway the "cpu" had a speed control on it. For all we know they only ever put it up to 3. Crank it to 11 baby!
