Guy Tests Out a No-Bark Dog Collar on Himself

Partly from following your discussion with QM on the Republicans pro life or pro death video, I found a talk by one of the men responsible for abolishing the death penalty in Australia, and as it has 8 votes I very much hope you either enjoy it or start a huge flame war with any of the usual suspects on it's comment page Or both, that would be good too.

I would've sent on the link sooner, but forgot whose comments prompted me to post it

If you wanna be rivals. We can. I don't see the point tho.

I said something about your poor choice of video. Nothing about your character or personality (other than that you might be a FPS fanboy).

So cut it the fuck out unless you want a big retarded flame war.

I haven't said anything about you personally in anything I have posted. Everything I have put out there has been in the interest of slightly provocative humor. In fact when I responded to you I treated your post and you with the utmost respect. If you can't take a little bit of humor... then I suppose I would have to recommend you toughening up your skin, because frankly giving you some friendly ribbing was really funny. However in the interest of peace, I will desist in my attempts to make you laugh and shake your head.

The only problem I have with the trolling of shinyblurry, is that while I have him on ignore it doesn't resolve the issue. Everyone one else starts to participate in these religious flame wars, that are never informative , always the same in tone and nature, and always moronic. The thread turns into this wasteland of shinyblurry topics instead, with no way to sort it out except by reading a bit and moving on.
I can do this, no problem. But, I think we gain little from shinyblurry's contributions if they are one trick pony efforts alone and always on "convert" mode. I can't ignore everyone. Just look at this thread and the nature it took on. Half of it is for shinyblurry except for the top part.
I don't think we need a ban, but perhaps a censure/suspension to try to assuage shinyblurry's "one trick pony" attitude. Perhaps to learn to post in a normal sense than always trying to thread-jack with commentary I could pre-emptily write myself, most likely semi-verbatim (I hate to say, but the thread-jacking works well, and I think needs to be discussed). It may not bother some of you, but may of us are tired of the sheer ridiculousness of it all.
No the comments are not hurtful or an outrage. They are merely begin to reach off-topic, every-time, in the exact same fashion.

Thank You, kceaton1.
You've said what I was trying to say--only infinitely better than I.

I have every right to express my views, and simply because you don't agree with them doesn't mean you have the right to censor me. This is quite plainly a fascist statement, where you are advocating that I be monitored so I am making the right kinds of comments that the most people agree with as being proper.
Your comment is also hypocritical as you were just recently having an indepth conversation with me on the nature of time and space. I didn't see your last reply there, otherwise I would have finished the conversation..however now I guess I shouldn't bother since you have me on ignore.

Sorry, @shinyblurry (don't respond to this as I don't read your stuff anymore, go ahead--if you feel you need to though), but you are an outright troll for this community. I've yet to had a reason to feel a need to upvote anything you've ever done. Even QM gets upvotes from me all the time as he doesn't have to rely on some sideshow to answer or post about in every video/post he does participate in.
For now I will just browse and scroll. Sooner or later I may just downvote any comment that is thread-jacking continuously that deals with this subject. Harsh, but it gets tiring. Especially, when we are talking about a plastic bracelet that does nothing.

Its impossible to win any kind of Internet argument/debate. Its impossible to have any sort of rational/logical discussion with a fanatic or member of the religious fringe. Basically, debating with this guy will only lead to a double loop of fruitlessness and inanity. Its tempting to engage people like this (which unfortunately I am doing right now) but all youre doing is "feeding the 'tards."

Judge Judy: Here's Who We Support With Our Tax Money

legacy0100 says...

Let's all agree to disagree. I don't think we're about to convince one another anytime soon. Ideas and beliefs that a person has learned and witnessed in their own unique environment and life experiences can give you a very different opinion.

I for one have lived half my life in Korea and the current half in US. I used to think Americans were well mannered, sophisticated people back when I was growing up in Korea. After moving to America, I realized that Americans did in fact were well mannered and culturally sophisticated, but only in terms of western ideologies.

For Americans, Saying 'bless you' is nice, but turning your head away from guest when drinking alcohol is weird. Holding doors for other people is nice, but not giving up your subway seat when a middle aged person is standing is fine. English and German sounds distinctively different, but Korean and Japanese sounds the same. Not tipping your waiter is looked down upon, but not giving your close relatives' children large sums of money after visiting their house is perfectly fine.

Chilaxe may value certain traits over as an individual from another society with very different circumstance of living, and same could be said about longde. You both have lived different environments and different experiences. For some people, certain ethnic groups seem more desirable over the other, while for others, there isn't much difference as to where they're from. (*one society might value personable manners and public order over individual uniqueness and athletic prowess, and vice versa)

You are both absolutely correct from your stand point, and both wrong from each other's point of view at the same time. Accept it, and stop yourselves from becoming one of those people who starts flame wars over the internet with a complete stranger.

I like the hobble idea a lot.

There was something was said in passing, buried in a long comment, that perhaps might be the key to making it work....

It isn't okay to hobble out of the blue. The person who is offended has to define the boundary being crossed and say -- do it again, and I will hobble you. And it needs to be in an open forum, not privately.

Discussion might ensue, grownup or otherwise. Others can join in, it can be a learning experience for the wanna-be-hobbler and the incipient-hobbled.

This does take some of the flame war fun out of it but hopefully it won't happen often.

I missed that! As I said above, "It is so tiring to be painted with beliefs I don't hold just because I don't agree 100% with someone else's stance."

Thanks for providing a stellar example of what I am tired of.

How am I supposed to instigate a flame war if I don't know who to be angry at?

Sorry @bareboards2, but what was your stance on the police institution again?
"If they didn't want their estranged children to be scared shitless after SWAT storms their home and detains their father for 6 hours.. they shouldn't have borrowed money from the government & likely be too poor to pay it back." Correct?
Good thing we have para-military police to protect us from these dangerous crooks.
"HELLO!? 911? Yes, there's a madman at my door who has NOT re-paid his student loans. Hurry, quick!! AAAHH, he's asking for work now. HEEEELP!!!"

Should Information About VideoSift Members be Recorded on wiki.videosift.com? (User Poll by dag)

kronosposeidon says...

@jonny

You ask "Why aren't the community guidelines that apply at VideoSift good enough for the wiki as well?" That's a fair question, so here's my answer:

Guidelines are almost never followed here. Sift polls are meant to be for Sift business, but most of the time they've been used for other purposes. Sift talk posts on the main page are also supposed to be Sift-related, but they're often not. Ad hominem atttacks are supposed to be avoided, but they happen every day. So calling them 'guidelines' isn't enough. If there are clearly defined rules, that can easily be enforced by members, then the damage should be kept to a minimum. No discussion needs to take place about the neutrality of an article about a member if that type of article is forbidden in the first place. Just delete them immediately

Though I don't think the wiki will have the same traffic as the site proper, I believe it will get more traffic than you think, but who knows what will happen. At least if we have a priori rules, we can immediately delete articles that don't belong, without the need for discussion. Laws won't stop vandalism ahead of time in the real world, but once it's happened at least the law can be enforced, so I say the rules here are enforceable as long as the rules exist in the first place.

I don't see the need for articles like dag listed anyway. If articles like those belong, then these should belong too:

- When have wrongful *dupeof invocations turned into flame wars?
- Who is Aaron McDonald?
- How many choggie sockpuppets have shown up over the years?
- What siftquisitions have turned into shameful public spectacles?
- Who has the most downvoted comments?

And if those types of articles are deemed admissible, then everything belongs. In the military they call this "mission creep." You start off with clearly defined objectives, but then you start adding more and more to the mission, until it gets to the point where the mission itself has become so broadly defined that anything goes. I don't want to see that happen to this wiki.

I still maintain that there is no need for articles about members, neither user nor topic pages. And if traffic is going to be low, as you suggest, then why even post them anyway? Leaving the wiki as a VS user manual is good enough for me.
