History of Microsoft Paint 1985 - 2017 [LGR Retrospective]

ant says...

I remember discovering it in Windows 3.0 on my king ant's work's IBM P70 portable computer. It had orange monochrome colors. Haha. I thought it was neat since after using Apple 2's Dazzle Draw!

Glad to hear they're not completely getting rid of it. MS Paint was my childhood!

Why isn't science enough?

bobknight33 says...

Depends on where you want to draw the line.
Some would call this racist, some would call this ECO Friendly policy.

If using an IQ as as standard of population control then you would have to wipe out all African and most of Arab nations. Then you would also need to do some elimination of South America nations.

The science is enough. People are fucking stupid and society needs to take active steps to stop people below the current average IQ from breeding.

Now some libtard will tell me that it's immoral, without even considering the morality of letting an entire race destroy itself by not acting.

Racist is what you do, not what you say.

ulysses1904 says...

Why should I do your work for you and research your "facts"? I challenged you to back up your claim. Especially when you speak in absolutes. Until then it comes across like the usual flippant superficial ignorant stupid picket sign verbiage that passes for "facts" these days.

Convince me, there must be some studies on the subject that all draw the same conclusion, that you read and are now citing.

But no doubt since I challenge you that can only mean I'm one of "them", right?

Donald Trump or Glenn Beck would no doubt say Google it when they spew out something and get challenged on it.

The effort it took to respond was more then it takes to perform a google search to see for yourself. But if sincere ignorance or conscientious stupidity is why you asked this question then in all honesty the truth is not what you are after.

How Disney uses Language in Animated Films

vil says...

Disney are actually using the music and the lyrics to have the desired specific emotional effect on their musically and geographically poorly informed audience. Specific languages are present not for accuracy or making sense, purely for cinematic effect. It is much easier to use a real language and real obscure culture references than trying to come up with something original, like Klingon. Correct use of a specific language or musical reference is probably just an inside joke. Everything Disney does is cultural appropriation, that is their day job. They dont do documentaries, they are into compiled rehashed fairytales. If that one song was PC it was probably done that way on purpose, decided by Disneys equal opportunities department. A proper Inuit movie would have to be shot from an Inuit script with an Inuit score drawn by real Inuit men on Inuit snow in the only possible way you can draw while your fingers are freezing.

Drone Footage Of Syrian Base After Recent Tomahawk Strike

cosmovitelli says...

Some people seem to think this was a false flag operation (the supposed chemical attack and the reasoning behind the US response)
Apparently its a very complicated sunni -shia - iran - saudi- yemen situation about an oil pipeline that will cut russia out of the loop. They also say Trump is more concerned about drawing attention away from his Russian treason and recklessly provoking the russians for his own domestic survival. A total all round shit show in other words.

Trigger Happy Cop Attacks Private Investigator

Mordhaus says...

Here is the thing, he could have taken another path in escalation. At the start of the video he already has his weapon drawn, not his taser, his 9mm handgun. He refused to do anything to de-escalate the situation, such as step back and call for backup and a watch commander. He instead escalated by placing hands on the driver and refused to call in a supervisor. When the driver moved, he escalated again with the weapon and after confirming the driver was no longer moving, continued to keep him in shooting position. After backup arrived with a taser drawn and ready, he still did not go to a guard position with his weapon. He became confrontational and even continued to draw down on the PI after there were multiple police on the scene.

In any case, watch the longer video @littledragon_79 posted. They go over the actual policy and training that the Deputy should have followed per the department's rules, which he did none of. This is either a case of a poorly trained Deputy or a hothead that shouldn't be a law enforcement officer.

Jacques Pepin: How to Chop Garlic

Ashenkase says...

I was taught a similar technique with an added step (but rarely use it)

Once you have the garlic minced, sprinkle some salt on it then use the french knife on an angle and crush the salt into the garlic.

Apparently it helps to draw out the juices faster.

From Spy to President: The Rise of Vladimir Putin

vil says...

Both "the west" and Putin are up to no good in the middle east, that is easily an ugly draw. Watch Turkey implode next.

Read up on "Russia's ally in Syria" if your stomach is up to it.
But then if you support Putin in any way you are probably used to that kind of stuff.

That said US foreign policy is... hard to understand sometimes.

Oh and debts on state level dont work the way you imply, but i understand the propaganda viewpoint. Russians have been trying to be economically independent from "the west" for a hundred years now. Maybe if they tried to be responsible partners it would be better for everyone.

And Im not saying the west should or indeed can do something about Putin. All I meant was that Russia is enemy No. 1 in rhetoric only. Not that important at all.

Spacedog79 said:

What do the west do? You mean apart from waging war across the middle east and trying to oust Russia's ally in Syria on trumped up charges?

Rex Murphy | Free speech on campus

Asmo says...

1. You don't speak for all trans/POC/gays etc, so you can only describe your personal experience. There are a number of documented trans people who agree with Peterson and don't want the state strong arming people in to mouthing the words...

2. Peterson does not promote transphobia, he resists being forced to speak certain words. They are not synonymous. If the fuckwits yelling their heads off spent the time to listen, they'd understand that.

3. Peterson was fine with the idiots at the event chucking a trantrum because it showed them up to be the intolerant idiots, not him. He was calm and reasonable, and if they had listened to him then put questions to him, they may have advanced whatever cause they claim to represent. Instead they came across as a pack of morons. /shrug

4. You talk about drawing lines around things, lines that should not be crossed, but without people daring to propose going outside those lines, gay rights would not be a thing... You see? It takes a brave person to step outside the lines and propose something that may be offensive to some. Same with women rights, transgender folk etc.

5. You have the right to be offended. You do not have the right to not be offended.

6. Mobs strongarming people in to silence has far more to do with Nazi ideology than resisting being forced to speak certain words. It's okay to punch Nazi's right?? \= )

Wasn't there, but I'm sympathetic to their cause.

I would say, like the people quoted in the article linked by Scud, these people aren't against "stepping out of their comfort zone" to learn. But there are certain norms and boundaries to ideas we hold in both every day discourse and academic discourse.

Some of that is how we don't entertain the idea of bringing back phrenology or that the earth is flat in serious discussion. But, unlike those antiquated ideas, other sorts of ideas lead to real and harmful consequences to marginalized groups. Ideas like entire classes of people either not being worth basic human rights or specifically targeting them for dehumanization/harassment.

I think people who shut down events like that or ones where Milo Yiounappolos specifically singled out trans individuals are weighing whether giving a larger audience to ideas like "these people aren't normal/don't deserve basic rights" is worth the real harm and harassment that follows. People see it as essentially saying, "Hey now, lets hear what these National Socialist fellows have to say about Jewish people without all the whining, ok?"

And these things aren't really as cut and dry "they don't want to hear differences of opinion" when every single trans person, person of color, gay person, etc has had these "differing opinions" yelled at them or forced into their life on a daily basis.

Rick's Rant - Trump and Twitter

Jinx says...

"The President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it. "
