Planet Earth : Bin Chicken

RFlagg says...

I have no idea if they are annoying as sea gulls here in the US, but I'd guess so. Perhaps our Sifter's down under will appreciate it... so *promote.

Honest Government Ad For Proposed Australian Coal Mine

Payback says...

Well, at least you all down under can be assured and comforted that once the US is finished with Wounded Knee, ummm, I mean Standing Rock, Trump'll send over the combat-hardened police veterans to mop up your indigenous terrorists too!

How to make cordage out of natural materials

artician jokingly says...

So, we've got a primitive survival show down-under and in eastern Europe...
I want to start one for Antarctica, go there, and die in my first week. It would be awesome.

Pi Day Is Round

newtboy says...

So then you guys down under never have pie day? How sad.

I must agree, our month, day, year order is silly, but it is what it is. It's not going to go well trying to re-teach Americans any other way. It's going to be a tough time when Americans are forced to change our calendars to metric. ;-)

Eh, it's only Pi day if your calendar is INSANE!

Month day year!? What kind of stupid order is that?

Dog shows lions who's the boss

CrushBug says...

Yeah, that is playing between friends. No reason for the lions to lay down except to play. Back when we had 2 dogs, the larger one would always lay down under the smaller one to let him have an advantage when the went at each other. Otherwise, it isn't fun for both.

The Buzz(kill) about Caffeine

oritteropo says...

Fortunately the rest of the world has more consistent guidelines. The EU for instance requires labelling for any food or drink with caffeine (except tea and coffee) - https://www.food.gov.uk/science/additives/energydrinks and down under there are limits on the maximum caffeine content of drinks - http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/generalissues/Pages/Caffeine.aspx (maximum is 320 mg per litre for energy drinks, which is why the local Jolt cola has less caffeine than the US version).

OK, but that doesn't mean you can just let the floor be covered in crap, right? ...or do gurneys and doctors both hover down under? ...Or is that an Aussie method of strengthening immune systems by giving them something to fight off?

Asmo said:

I know we have a reputation for toughness etc, but we still treat people on gurneys and beds and stuff, not the floor... ; )

Tuff Darts - (Your Love Is Like) Nuclear Waste

Everything Wrong With Netflix

MilkmanDan says...

I had never heard of that before -- pretty cool idea although I've got enough storage available and a fast enough connection that just downloading in advance works fine.

Since you use the present tense "is", I assume that one of the forks is still active? Wikipedia says the original was taken down "under MPAA pressure" (imagine that -- strongarm tactics from the MPAA!).

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

Esoog says...

I agree with some of the comments that were already made:
- I missing seeing the channels
- I feel the hover over pop-out is too fast as well
- It feels like a lot of wasted space...its hard to describe, but things feel too big. I use everything from a tablet, to a 27 inch monitor, to a 40 inch TV to browse this site, and I on this new design, I find myself zooming out 3 or 4 times to get a 'comfortable' fit on the screen.

Most importantly, 95% of my activity on this site is opening a video from the front page, or from the "top new videos by vote" list. Then when I'm finished with that video, I quickly find another from that same list. I miss having that list ever-present on the screen. I just dont like the mouse-over pop-out. It lacks ranks and the thumbnails are too big. And it doesnt look like I can adjust the list length like I did on the 'old' design, to show 20 videos, instead of the original 10 or 15 (whatever the default was).

Lastly, I've mentioned this before to some people: I would LOVE a way to filter siftbot replies and user invocations in comments. I hate having to scroll past 8 or 9 siftbot replies, and user invocations, just to find 1 actual comment buried somewhere in there. If all someone does is comment *Down Under, and siftbot replies that its added the Down Under channel, then allow us to hide those messages.

But most importantly, I would like the ever-present Top Videos list on each page.
