hmmmm, I could probably go along with all you said... but not with Meg Ryan.
I thought you northern slavs would rather get it on with the exotic fiery types - Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz etc.

lol it's just an obsession. mainly with planes.

compare the dogfights to any other film. top gun wins. it's not easy to put a high speed 3d dogfight on 2d film and have it still make sense.

oh yeah and there's meg ryan.

and it's perfectly paced, completely of its time but doesn't look as all other films that tried to copy it.

don't get me started!

In reply to your comment:
Not you too?
I really don't see the appeal

(my older brother nicknamed me Gus, he's the only one who calls me that.)

In reply to your comment:
top gun is the best film of all time. so you know.

Information High - Original Macross Tribute

legacy0100 says...

i don't know about the original macross, but macross plus was the greatest aircraft dogfights i've ever seen. It was just amazing.

It's sad how Hollywood tried to imitate the same exact concept and failed horribly (ie. Stealth, 2007)

Independence Day-1st Aerial Battle

Well, while ID4 may not be a deep or complex movie, it's just great to watch for sheer enjoyment, and I think a lot of people (including myself) often forget that movies are made for that purpose. I hardly consider ID4 to be a pinnacle of scifi movies, but darn it's fun to watch!

And yeah, Will Smith having the balls to go and smack the alien pilot around after the dogfight? That definitely earns this clip a place in the collective.

Consequences of war

grspec says...

I don't have a problem with it becuase it is not snuff. I say return it. I have been debating on posting some WWII dogfight vids that show some really awesome air battles but of course, the guy in the other plane is getting killed. Sooner or later i think we are going to need a tag similar to nsfw for death.

A <a rel="nofollow" href=http://www.answers.com/topic/juke">juke is a feint used to fake out an opponent, generally in sports but also in other areas like aerial dogfighting. Answers.com tells us it comes from the Middle English word "jowken", meaning to bend in a supple way.

Jook is a popular Chinese breakfast dish that is more commonly known in English-speaking countries as "rice congee".

MicroSoft Flight Simulator X

amxcvbcv says...

BF2 flying is absolutely nothing like real flying or even a legitimate flight simulator. Trying to perform maneuvers at your top speed in a real fighter is a good way to overstress your aircraft and get out-turned by your adversary. Real world fighter pilots are taught to dogfight at a sweet spot around 450 knots which gives the plane superior maneuvarability. You're also taught energy management, so you don't end up low, slow, and at the pointy end of the other pilot as well as many other maneuvers and concepts that if you try to use in BF2 get you killed by the teen-age twitch player.

As for the controller issue with MS Flight Simulator. There are already hundreds (if not thousands) of people that do it for fun. Check out Vatsim. There is a relatively small but very very dedicated Flight Simulator community.

Ooh, next 15 or something like that would be rad. That's probably where you'll see the fiercest "dogfights" for votes/rank, 9 through 15 notwithstanding. <grin>

I'll get right on filling out a "real" profile as soon as the exam's over - 1 day down, 2 days left. More on my exam from hell here: http://krupo.ca/archive/2006/09/12/2208.aspx

If you're scared or annoyed by the accounting babble, skip down to the last three paragraphs, which I find either insane or amusing.

Baghdad Raid (8:14)

Farhad2000 says...

That is true JoeDirt, but the thing that strikes me is that people who work in corporations never realise what harm they may be causing. Because for them they exist as seperate entities from the corporate structure, however in legal terms are corporation is considered a person, who can own land and propoerty, and is the one liable for damages (e.g. Exxon Valdez). But how can you hold a building accountable? How does a corporation care about say enviromental or other external social costs? This is something that needs to be changed in regards to law, the board of governors should be held accountable. I find it so ridiculous, that one can plead the 5th when dealing with Enron... I'd love to commit a murder leave little evidence and then plead the 5th.

Discovery Channel and Histroy Channel really have all of a sudden become major proponents of conflict with endless shows like Dogfight, Iraq Most Dangerous, and countless other programs.
