Richard Ayoade deconstructs promotional interviews

cloudballoon says...

Ayoade's comedy is not always my cup of (British) tea, even though I love British comedy far more than American in general. His jokes are often very incisive, which I love, but it's the deadpan delivery that is a little dry for me.

Ghomert Asks If Forestry Department Can Change Earth's Orbit

newtboy says...

Bobby, you are such a dishonest and gullible tool.

You had to go back over a decade to find one Democrat say something 1/2 as dumb as what Republicans put forth daily and as their party stance....and at the time "Johnson's office said that he was a tremendous deadpan and used a facetious metaphor to draw attention to the potential negative impact caused by the addition of 8,000 Marines and dependents to an island of 180,000 people." He never thought you could capsize an island.

So, an obvious joke about overpopulation "capsizing" an island vs an actual inquiry about the forestry dept having the ability and authority to change our orbit. Ghomert was NOT joking....he's a moron and it's time for him and any other moron who believes the big lie but doesn't believe science to walk away from politics.

When your team claims Jewish space lasers cause most forest fires, they aren't joking. When they say Democrats derive magic power from eating live babies, it's not a joke. When they claim that all mass shootings are false flag hoaxes and the dead are fake people, they aren't joking. When they say vaccines contain tracking microchips and mind control serums, they aren't joking. When they go off about the horrors of large corporations buying up property to rent out while making big profits by calling that socialism, they aren't joking. When they say Italian satellites magically changed paper votes from space, they aren't joking. When they say long dead Hugo Chavez rigged the election from beyond the grave, they aren't joking. When they say you should inject bleach to fight a virus they say is a hoax, they aren't joking. Time for your party to walk away from politics and directly into a mental ward, young and old alike.

So sad that's the best you guys have got. Cry me more of those sweet sweet tears of anguish.

Nerdwriter1: Norm Macdonald Is A Comic Genius

jmd says...

if your claim to his brilliance is because he drew out "Moth walks into a bar, bartender ask what brings you here?, and moth says because the light was on" into a 10 minute bit, you have something else going on in your brain of yours and it probably has to do with multiple voices.

I like norms deadpan deliveries and will even giggle at his "What, too soon?" jokes, but most of his drawn out jokes leave me with nothing more then a chuckle and wishing I had my 12 minutes back.

YouTube Video channels or persons that "Grind Your Gears" (Internet Talk Post)

John Oliver does satire and deadpan amazingly well.

But he just can't do "wacky", it just doesn't work for him. His voice goes up and he turns to the graphics and says something like "No johnny, your parents actually hate you" or whatever and it just falls flat every. goddamn. time.

No, don't overthink it. It's not some deep complicated reaction to artificial gender\comedy\social issues you read about in blogs, it's just stale humor to me. I'm sure many find her deadpan delivery of facial cream-pie queef soiled panty jokes to be ground-breaking. If Eisenhower was in the White House I'm sure I would think so too but it's been done a billion times.

If you don't laugh at the "why did the chicken cross the road" joke does that make you an animal rights activist?

Just curious, given this comment. No judgment here, just curiosity....

Do you consider yourself a feminist? Do you think you have an appreciation for the struggles of women in today's hyper-sexualized society?

Are you annoyed at women complaining about gender issues and their struggles?

These are honest questions, I swear. I know women who aren't feminist, who don't have an appreciation blah blah blah. You could be one of them. Although I think you are a man of a certain age.

So? Are you? A self described feminist?

I wouldn't say that. I think it's just the absence of witnessing that particular usage, which I wouldn't relate to your age.

I don't tend to see anyone fist-bumping anyone in real life.

Funny story (that my wife and I often chuckle about): I was fist-bumped exactly once that I can remember, but it's the why that's so funny. Employee at an oil change shop was talking to me and asked about my kids. I told him I have two boys. He then told me he had two boys. Then he, with all of his Hispanic machismo glory, nodded with a knowing grin and said these exact words: "That's right. Real men know how to make boys." Then he reached his fist out to me and as I guffawed with laughter inside and was perplexed by his infant-like nonsensical logic hesitantly reached up to allow the fist-bump to happen so as not to leave him hanging.

Now every time we discuss the fact that we have two boys either I or my wife will say with a straight face "That's right. Real men know how to make boys." and we'll give one another a deadpan fist-bump before we simultaneously bust up with laughter.

Keeping the Oh Snap alive! Just waiting for the Snap Son to make it's come back. I like both of these so much.

Personally, I'm rather fond of a singular Snap or SNAP. Maybe some Shnap or Shizz-nap -- put that one together with some dee oh double gee!

I just really like the word "snap", especially in this particular emotional context. It's so positive and upbeat; I feel awake. And it's not at all contradictory or assuming like Bad, Cool or Radical; and, not nearly as aggrandizing as Awesome.

It's also not emotionally inappropriate like Sick, Rude or Bomb. Nor strange and alienating like Gnarly, Gnar, Gnar Gnar, and Sicky Gnar Gnar. Or as fluffy and clueless as Bodacious and Tubular; you can't Shwing everything; and, calling your mom's apple pie Tight or Fit is just... not right. (And what's Book?)

Snap. It's the musical sound of your fingers. Addam's Family says what? Snap Snap.

Still... NOT excited enough to go out and pick up some onyx yeast and put it on my toast. But, if I see it laying around on... someone's floor(?...?) I'll give it a go.

((?...?) = the questioning look of mild disgust on my face, best represented colloquially as a deadpan "wut.")
