Copper Chloride - A thoughtless moment costs prof. a carpet
Did you fail to notice how I spelled 'spelt'?

And touché on the imperial system. I learned the metric system in grade school because the US was supposed to start transitioning. That was the 1970s.

Almost downvoted for extra syllables in aluminum. Yes, yes, I know it's spelt differently over there, but it irks me all the same.
That's really bizarre to me, as I HATE hearing it said aluminum... being that it's wrong and all
The guy who discovered it was English, but he took three tries to settle on a name. The US really only slowly turned to using the spelling you lot do know.
You funny yanks you.
Also, I refuse to take scientific correctness lessons from a country that still uses imperial.
A Supercomputer (anno 1995)
Heh, my 33.6k+ dial-up modems go that fast on these crappy copper phone lines!

Levitation melting induction furnace
The demonfire in the metal is being brought out by the holy water running through the pure copper pipes.....so basically a metal exorcism.

WRONG, magic!>> ^deathcow:

Can someone please explain what is going on here?
Electrical current is flowing through the coil of copper. Strong electromagnetic fields are formed which suspend the piece of metal, and make eddy currents flow in the piece of metal. Great power is dissipated as the current flows against the resistance of the metal, the power heats the metal. Ahh here you go:

Periodic Table Of Videos - Most Interesting Metal For Rings
>> ^Porksandwich:
Well I think I'd pick a ring that could at least be cut off if needed. Although that mercury ring would be neat....
Personally I think if you could get the various metals to stay together, I wouldn't mind seeing varying shades of steel, titanium, gold, copper, and platinum made into a neat pattern. Kind of a mix and match but all one loop, not inlays or anything like that. Like how marbles are made, especially gold lutz marbles.
It'd certainly be unique, I doubt any one band would be the same if they could manage to get them to be solid enough to stay together on someone's finger in a not-to-big loop.
Cool idea. Start with the four metals as wires and then twist them into a spiral and then forge them into a cylinder.

it has to be clearly stated that nearly all of the coppers in this clip were being very professional. we all love to scream and rage when some of them are being dicks but these guys? nicer than i expected, especially the hugger ;-)
I disagree with you. It shows how power-hungry they are. Nobody would piss in the middle of a sidewalk in Times Square or next to a police station.
They were just begging for an excuse to arrest somebody.

One Way To Deal With A DUI Checkpoint (Refusal)

If the government thought they could get away with it, they'd institute random house searches.
Thank you for being a voice for liberty. some of these sifters are nauseating, and if it were up to them the precogs would be hunting us all down as i speak.
bottom line, reckless drivers should be dealt with, and the troopers need to get their gun touting asses out of everyone else's face. if you've ever been handcuffed/arrested for nonviolent crimes, you know the coppers aren't protecting you, they're watching you. i wont even get into the for-profit policing we have in my city.

Here in Portugal the law is similar to german. You obviously can install a video surveillance system, but you need to fill out a form informing the data protection agency, telling exactly what can be seen through the camera(s). Otherwise, that footage will never be accepted in a court of law as evidence.
Another fun fact in law differences just by the way: evidence illegaly obtained can sabotage a case in the US (at least has to be disregarded) whereas it makes no difference in Germany. Police unlawfully searches your home and find drugs? You will be prosecuted (but the copper also will).
That's interesting. I always thought it was weird that illegally obtained evidence is unusable, surely if it proves the guy did it then evidence is evidence? If it is obtained illegally, then whoever obtained it should be charged with whatever the illegal action was. Court cases should be "is the guy guilty" rather than "can we show the guy is guilty within the rules". I know it gets more complicated than this but on the face of it "evidence against Mr. Big is accepted, but you just implicated Officer Smith" seems right.
This is one thing that I feel very strongly that we (Americans) do right. I don't know how it really works in practice in other countries, but the way you describe it, it would be far too easy for a government to set up a massive illegal fishing expedition to look for any hints of illegal activity, then either have a fall guy or claim that it was an accident when they wanted to use the 'evidence'.

Agreed, that seems the most sensible way to go.
