NYC Stores Surrender To Thieves

newtboy says...

So, trying to sell the same thing the right claimed was happening in San Francisco years ago, but it turned out the chain stores that were closing were actually just not making money, and other stores nearby with significantly worse theft losses were remaining open because they made money. This totally contradicted the right wing narrative often parroted by the company CEO’s that they closed stores because of high theft, a lie they approved because then they got to shirk responsibility for the store closures and blame it on something out of their control.
If the doom and gloom the extreme right has claimed is reality in “liberal cities” for years or decades was real, these cities would be abandoned by now, not remaining the most valuable and attractive real estate in the country.
New York is less criminal today than last year, the Trump crime family has been banned from the state, lowering crime rates noticeably by itself. 😂

Funny, the right wants harsher penalties for minor crimes, but no penalties for hundreds of millions stolen, and doesn’t want to pay a dime more in taxes to build more prisons, overcrowding is encouraged until it’s them in prison, then it’s unconscionable torture requiring their immediate release…looking at you Jan 6 terrorists who all wanted Gitmo overfilled with BLM.

How Bad is The Cost of Living Squeeze In the US?

newtboy says...

Shows your delusion perfectly.
It’s not worse, it’s better by every single measure used to measure any economy.

Inflation has turned around and is down to 3.24% with wage gains outpacing it by almost double, and wage gains were the highest ever at 15.28 % in April of 2021 under Biden and a record low of -5.89% in April of 2020…who was president then? Low inflation doesn’t mean shit when unemployment is at record highs wages are actually going DOWN, shelves are bare, and GDP is NEGATIVE!!
Negative wage growth is the same as inflation…it lowers earning/spending power…so does losing 15-20 million jobs!
So, combine wage growth and inflation then average in the unemployed at $0 income to get average earning/spending power, you will see earning/spending power was much LOWER in 2020 under Trump even for those that kept their jobs…when you could actually find anything to buy that is. 🤦‍♂️
I know you don’t remember a hour ago, but many of us remember 2020, the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year in so many ways ending in a coup attempt.

Good management turned what Trump left, a triple decker shit sandwich in a festering sewer and guaranteed recession at best according to every economist, into a boom so great inflation spiked higher than just thanks to Trump wasteful overspending and pure handouts to business owners with completely unregulated no background check no repayment PPP loans, but Biden’s fed handled it and inflation is barely above average and well below all other G7 nations by far.

You think the economy is worse now than record high unemployment record low wage growth record low gdp record discretionary federal spending and record business closures!?!…by what measure buddy? What measure? Inflation is down, earning power is up….WAY UP. Your feelings don’t mean shit….in fact, fuck your feelings snowflake.

Your old play book of blaming the previous administration is pure BS.
If Biden was handed a shit sandwich He has had 3 years to push policies to turn the ship around . But he hasn't It is worse.

To remind @bobknight33 in a place where he can’t erase it and pretend he doesn’t know what a baby criminal his MAGA daddy is, Trump, coward that he is, walked away from two retaliatory lawsuits today, one against Cohen for revealing the payoff to a porn star to hide his affair and humiliating sexual performance because he was absolutely terrified of being deposed by someone who knows his secrets, and the other against the judge hearing his NY fraud case Judge Engoron, and then he ran away in shame after saying he would show up in court every day to stand up to the judge and DA, but instead fled to Florida after 2 1/2 days of grumbling in his seat. 😂
Trump claims he will refile against Cohen after he wins his criminal cases, so never. Cohen will be filing if he hasn’t already to recover maybe millions for defending the frivolous lawsuit and he will win.

Trump was tossed off the Forbes richest Americans list, citing a $650 million loss on Toth Senchal, the closure of all of his New York businesses, and the absurdity of accepting his own valuations for his properties like $650 million to $1.5 billion for Maralago he himself said wasn’t worth $20 million last year in court in an effort to try to avoid taxes. Truth is he may be exceedingly deep in debt well beyond the true value of his holdings…in debt to hostile foreign powers and criminal organizations.

Republicans have finally realized rules they put in place make him ineligible for speaker…you might think they would have looked into that before floating the idea but no. You people are so inept and incompetent.

Again he’s been exposed showing top secret highest classification level military secrets to foreigners for no reason beyond braggadocio. This time exposing nuclear submarine specs including payloads and stealth capabilities to an Australian who instantly told everyone he knew and some he didn’t…making the military secrets public knowledge. That’s treason…you know the penalty for treason, don’t you? String him up! 😂

Big daddy T is having a very bad really terrible day/week/month/year. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving person.

Nike’s Flagship Store Closes Due INSANE Crime

newtboy says...

Nike had sold discounted and out-of-season items at the Northeast neighborhood factory store since 1984.
Not a flagship Nike store, but a flagship “community factory store”….a low profit discount out of season outlet store.

Last year the store quietly shuttered its doors due to internal and external theft and safety issues. With expensive and small/lightweight stock and absolutely no anti theft security in place and police too busy joking about running over citizens to even try to arrest shoplifters, it’s hardly surprising they became targets for petty theft by employees and customers.

Nike did not provide a specific reason for the permanent closure and said it is considering future locations in the area, not that they were abandoning it because of high crime. Sounds like they just need a more secure building. Nice try.

"Nike’s commitment to supporting and uplifting Portland’s North and Northeast community is unwavering. We are reimagining Nike’s retail space, permanently closing our current location at 2650 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and considering future locations as part of this community’s long term revitalization plan,"

Judge Locks Up Parkland Shooter for Life, Throws Away Key

cloudballoon says...

Personally I'm for aborting it, but the Death Penalty might be what the murderer wants, then is it just publishment? That's granting the ultimate wish of the murderer. But if the majority of the victims' families, understandably, wants the closure of the death Penalty, too. Why the need to be 100% unanimous among every jury? So it's always a gray area.

But locking him up for life makes good business for the Correctional Industrial Complex though. Cheap labor! The only absolute loser is the taxpayers.

What Really Happened at the Hernando de Soto Bridge?

spawnflagger says...

Yeah, he did touch on the need for multi-person team to do all critical inspections, and a culture/policy failure that led to this physical failure. At least no one was hurt (yet), and hopefully that culture will change as a result of the massive effects of closure and cost to repair.

"Those responsible have been sacked." was just a Monty Python reference- I didn't mean to imply more than 1 person was fired (but probably should be more)

elrondhubbard said:

From what the video says, just one person responsible for inspection has been sacked. They always go after the lowest-ranking person, don't they?

When in fact, if it's possible for one person's mistake, laziness or incompetence to destroy your bridge and kill members of the public, your entire organization is at fault. You have to wonder if it's one of those "so to save money, they fired the night watchman" situations.

[T]hat is not the America I know.

The America I know is full of courage, and optimism, and ingenuity. The America I know is decent and generous. Sure, we have real anxieties—about paying the bills, protecting our kids, caring for a sick parent. We get frustrated with political gridlock, worry about racial divisions; are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice. There are pockets of America that never recovered from factory closures; men who took pride in hard work and providing for their families who now feel forgotten; parents who wonder whether their kids will have the same opportunities we had.

All that is real. We’re challenged to do better; to be better. But as I’ve traveled this country, through all fifty states; as I’ve rejoiced with you and mourned with you, what I’ve also seen, more than anything, is what is right with America. I see people working hard and starting businesses; people teaching kids and serving our country. I see engineers inventing stuff, and doctors coming up with new cures. I see a younger generation full of energy and new ideas, not constrained by what is, ready to seize what ought to be.

Most of all, I see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger together – black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young and old; gay, straight, men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance, under the same proud flag, to this big, bold country that we love.

If you need it to sound more like Trump, just pretend in the middle somewhere that he said he wanted to kill a hooker and feed a dead cat to an ATM.

Bob...do not try to teach anyone history, you simply don't know it. You are just wrong on nearly every point......again.

On 2 June 2010, (with oil at $80) President Chávez declared an "economic war" because of the increasing shortages in Venezuela.[1] The crisis intensified under the Maduro government, growing more severe as a result of low oil prices in early 2015,[12][19][20] and a drop in oil production from lack of maintenance and investment.[11] The government failed to cut spending in the face of falling oil revenues and has dealt with the crisis by denying its existence[21][22] and violently repressing opposition.[11] Political corruption, chronic shortages of food and medicine, closure of companies, unemployment, deterioration of productivity, authoritarianism, human rights violations, gross economic mismanagement and high dependence on oil have also contributed to the worsening crisis.

Republicans - RED WAVE

newtboy says...

Never bet against the stupidity of the American voter.

With voter suppression on the rise, vote invalidation based on as little as an untrained clerk's opinion of a signature or a middle name vs initial on the application and targeting minorities at >4 times the rate of whites, poll closures and inconsistent hours/services (longer hours and more early voting in affluent areas), and voting machines reportedly changing straight party democratic ticket votes to include votes for republican candidates (Cruz) in Texas at least, the results are far from a foregone conclusion.

The only thing conclusive to me is that this election will be suspect and considered illegitimate by whoever loses.
Russia is sure getting it's money's worth. We couldn't be more divided without taking up arms against each other... oh....wait....we are taking up arms against each other based on political affiliation already.

VOTE....and remind Republicans that Trump just gave them 5 extra days, until the 11th, to vote while anyone not registered Republican must vote on or before the 6th. ;-)

Comcast Repairmen Unconcerned Of Wrecks They Are Causing

See (OSHA) Lane Closure on Low-Volume, Two-Lane Road (Part way down the page, eleventh diagram) https://www.osha.gov/doc/highway_workzones/mutcd/figures.html

Would be interesting to know legally whats required with these specific road condition also included (Weather and hill)

I just can't imagine they were following code in this situation. Accidents would be a common occurrence.

OSHA is now investigating.

The smart play would have a "men at work" sign at least at the crest of the hill, but if that's not in the regulations, that's not the unpleasant Comcast guy's responsibility.

Directional driller/ Equipment operator with a Flagging certificate for over 10 years here! I have been installing fiber optic and power lines for the past decade on roads just like this. Let me say first off that Comcast broke multiple OSHA and DOT regulations here. When working within any easement that is under 10 feet from the road or working from the road a minimum of 2 signs facing each lane of traffic must be placed a minimum of 500 feet from the site of work. To be a proper Lane closure they needed a roadwork ahead sign at 700 feet followed by a men working sign at 500 feet then a series of 5 cones minimum at the back of the truck forming a wedge from the right of the work lane to the left corner of the truck. -Reddit

I know where i live even on residential streets i often see a flagmen when there is only one lane for two way traffic.

I wonder if road closures were because of road closures; in the SF film, he took advantage/got CHP/CalTrans to go along with his filming on a day when they needed to close the Bay Bridge over a weekend...

I'm such a gearhead, I didn't need any sound track for the first 10 minutes lol.
yah, maybe the choreography has slipped a notch, but still...

Why Do Joints Pop And Crack?

Great post. Brings closure to a 19 year long argument with my wife on knuckle cracking. Does anyone have a video that proves pubic hair doesn't defy gravity and jump up onto the kitchen counter when walking around the house in the nude?
