newtboy says...

Then you're a disingenuous fool and apologist for/supporter of domestic terrorism and sedition, which are a bit more serious than a few cases of arson, there were enough firebombs confiscated to burn the building to the ground, at least two working bombs activated, and an attempted coup including mobs roaming the halls of congress looking to murder representatives including the VP.

If it was a right wing plot you would probably call 9-11 mostly peaceful, only 19 of the 30000 involved did anything wrong.

More like 10-15000, and 1000-1500 smashed in armed with guns, bombs, and molotovs chanting about killing representatives, the rest just attacked the outside and police, set up a hanging stand complete with noose, and stood guard for those inside.

Show me this reporter standing in front of a burning building calling it a peaceful protest, not a protest that became a riot. I challenge you. I can probably find video of every single democrat representative denouncing the summer violence, i can find you video of Republicans gleefully supporting the crowd of terrorists, and even the president supporting them and telling the terrorist mob he loves them.

30-50,000 people in the protest. A few hundred invaded the building. I'd call that "mostly peaceful" by the definition of the reporter standing in front of a burning building saying the same.

1) you never said I was wrong, as usual, when your nonsense was challenged, you just went silent, later trying to move on to different topics but never addressing your claim about known cases of Democrats cheating, committing vote fraud...and still not producing a single one.

2) it's never up to me to corroborate your lies and misconceptions, I take zero responsibility for that. If I choose to contradict them, with as much evidence as I see fit, that's my choice. Remember when Republicans were about personal choices? I member.

3) again, so now I know it's intentional, when asked for evidence of Democrats committing vote fraud you come up with another article about Trump intentionally defunding the USPSand his cronies dismantling the systems they've used for years so vote by mail can't work because, as he said, if everyone voted, there would never be another Republican elected, in the process destroying the mail system so checks, medicines, important documents, etc can no longer use the USPS for anything that can't be delayed 6 weeks. That is not proof of Democratic voter fraud, since you seem confused, it's proof of Republican fraud.

Try again, you're failing miserably, actually making my case stronger in your efforts.

BTW, Trump has until today to prove the non existent vote by mail frauds or his case to stop Pennsylvania from going vote by mail is tossed, which is why they hit Pennsylvania hard with USPS degradation, removing 650+ sorting machines nationwide that sorted >21 million pieces of mail per hour, 10% of their capacity when they need to be expanding, now being done by hand at much greater cost and far slower....to cut costs how?

Kicked Out of Class for Saying There are Two Genders

bobknight33 says...

Dishonest about what????????? I just presented an video of disagreement of thought. - I did not take any sides yet you say I'm dishonest.

The kid spoke up in opposition to what the teacher said that is not necessary disruptive. Kid got kicked out for having a different opinion and would not accept that of the teacher.

All in all that is not the issue. It is that is there only 2 sexes or more?

Regardless of what the teacher actually thinks on this matter the teacher is boxed in to accept the policy of his employer/ system. He can't speak against this policy for fear of loosing his job or getting in trouble.

The kid is free to think and express his thoughts.

Defying school policy, -- So its not right to defy school policy, or policy for that matter. Don't challenge? You don't want a world that does not challenge thought, do you?

newtboy said:

Bullshit totally dishonest title Bob....as usual.
Kicked out of class for being disruptive, interrupting, not shutting up after stating his opinion, arguing in class, denying and defying school policy, and being a douchebag. His time is worthless, not the teacher's, not the rest of the class. He wasted THEIR time by insisting they agree with his ill informed opinion and not shutting up. I hope he has fun in Summer school.
*lies for the misleading title

Can Alcohol Cause Cancer?

transmorpher says...

And what exactly does veganism have to do with alcohol consumption? The vast majority of alcohol is vegan friendly.

Vegans have nothing to gain from decreased alcohol consumption.

----
Also Dr.Greger makes no claims. He simply reads out the research from a world wide scope of researchers, none of which are vegan.

And cherry picking what exactly? He's presented literally 10s of thousands of research papers all from unrelated researchers. And it's not like he's picking out some fringe groups, he's quoting the biggest health organisations in the world.

While it's easy to call him a cherry picker, I challenge anyone to find any credible evidence of cherry picking. I'm yet to hear back from someone over the last 6 years.

And I also challenge you to find an article that isn't funded or tied to the egg/milk/beef/fish industry which claims that eating x animal product is healthy.

Even easier, find an industry funded study which shows the detrimental effects of their own product. You won't, because they are inherently biased - an industry would never publish something that would hurt their bottom line. And no he doesn't ignore or cherry pick around industry funded studies, he exposes their tricks and data manipulation as well. That's not cherry picking, that's proper analysis.

And actually thanks to the freedom of information act, we can see how many studies they hide from us (when they don't like the results), and only publish the ones that suit their revenue centered agenda.

And this is why he's labelled a cherry picker - revenue loss. Broccoli ain't making anyone rich.

Let me put it into perspective:

He did a few video on how those WIFI sensitivity diseases are fake, and the comments are insane - because it's hurting people's income. And this is a pretty niche market, so you can imagine what a billion dollar industry would attempt to do to discredit him. Of course, they never address the research, just him.

drradon said:

From Media Bias website: " Science Based Medicine debunks one by one, many of Dr. Gregers claims. They also claim that NutritionFacts cherry picks information that will always favor veganism. NutritionFacts.org does provide some valuable information and certainly a diet high in fruits and vegetables is preferred, but Dr. Gregers claims are extreme."

Not a consumer of alcohol myself, but this seems about right...

Cancer Screening Myths

transmorpher says...

Pseudoscience? You cannot get more scientific than reading from the actual study - which is what this video is. The visuals are the actual text from the study, which is published in an actual medical journal, by non-vegan scientists. In the corner of the video it even lists which article it is so you can go and read it for yourself.

Every single video on nutritionfacts.org is in this format, there is nothing on the site that is not supported by quality science, and I challenge you to prove otherwise.

ChaosEngine said:

I would take everything said in this video with a truckload of salt.

NutritionFacts.org are a pseudo-scientific organisation that push the idea that cancer can be cured with a vegan diet.

Racist is what you do, not what you say.

ulysses1904 says...

Why should I do your work for you and research your "facts"? I challenged you to back up your claim. Especially when you speak in absolutes. Until then it comes across like the usual flippant superficial ignorant stupid picket sign verbiage that passes for "facts" these days.

Convince me, there must be some studies on the subject that all draw the same conclusion, that you read and are now citing.

But no doubt since I challenge you that can only mean I'm one of "them", right?

Donald Trump or Glenn Beck would no doubt say Google it when they spew out something and get challenged on it.

Video World - The Death of a Video Store

shagen454 says...

You know, I hated going to the video store when I was a kid. I was always looking for the new "blockbuster", it was always out and then you had to make up your mind on what to get which took upwards of forty minutes.

But, if you have good stores and good tastes then you can't beat a good video store or record store or book store. A good store will challenge you to look at something new and inspire you by putting really good quality material in front of you, that you otherwise wouldn't have been interested in or known about.

That is what I fear is going on, right now with the internet and Tech goons taking everything over. It removes the history by creating a disposable past & disposable future. If it's not "trending" then delete it, if it's not up to par with the new branding "templates", then get rid of it.

So, yeah - point being, fuck corporate chains, fuck big tech & long live quality mom & pop & independently run shops. It's sad that we are losing this battle - and with Trump (who is a corporate hooligan shill for the 1% & an ideological nazi[congrats you fucking idiots]) in office, it's only going to get worse.

Let's Talk About Bathrooms

harlequinn says...

No force fields, just people who will challenge you. I.e. in almost all the world, in general, if the someone tries to enter the opposite sex's bathroom, they will be challenged. Yes, if nobody is around then nobody will challenge them.

You won't need a wig and dress under the new system. You'll only need to walk straight in, in full male clothing. No one will challenge you because they'll be under the assumption that you identify as the female gender.

So to be clear, this will increase the opportunities for people to enter the opposite sex's bathroom. That is the extra risk.

Just to clear up some general confusion I see:

You can be transgender and not change your clothing or sexual appearance.

You can be transsexual and still be cisgender. I.e. you can have sexual reassignment, or cross-dress and remain cisgender.

dannym3141 said:

Do the toilets everywhere else in the world have magical force fields on them that stop the opposite sex entering the wrong bathroom, or what? Have i been using the antiquated honour-system bathrooms where it's an open door that humans can pass freely through?

The reason i ask is because there seems to be an unspoken agreement in this discussion that "allowing" transgender men into female bathrooms CREATES the problem of sexual predators going into women's bathrooms.

How many sexual predators have been keeping a dress, a wig and fake breasts in the cupboard hoping and praying for the moment that they pass the law which magically opens up this previously inaccessible area? The idea that sex offenders have been walking past women's bathrooms all this time desperate and yet unable to get in, and now we're going to turn off the force fields and things will be different!

This doesn't create a new risk. Sexual predators can go into women's bathrooms right now. And you can't go in and check before your daughter uses it, so how do you know one isn't in there? What extra risk is there?

Sam Harris: Can Psychedelics Help You Expand Your Mind?

shinyblurry says...

Hi Engels,

I just wanted to address what is a common misconception about the teachings of Jesus Christ, which is that He taught the oneness of mankind, or that we could all achieve some kind of evolutionary process of consciousness expansion. This is simply false; Jesus Christ taught that He is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that there is no other way to reach God except through Him. He taught that we are all sinners, alienated from God, and that His suffering and death on the cross and resurrection from death was the universal atonement for our sins and the hope of all mankind, which we receive by putting our faith and trust in Him.

The popular culture has distorted our understanding of Jesus, but this distortion is easily remedied by studying the scriptures. A reading of the gospel of John, for instance, will show you that the Jesus you have heard about and the Jesus of the bible couldn't be more different. I would challenge you to do so and learn more about Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who He truly was and was not, and what He taught about Himself. It is a question He posed to His disciples:

Matthew 16:13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
Matthew 16:14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
Matthew 16:15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

Engels said:

I really liked how he handled this. He sees psychedelics as a tool to reach what's already natively there, albeit hard to reach with our modern thought processes.

I also like his assertion that we all have the potential to be like Jesus, or another religious figure that taught the oneness of man.

No, you are wrong and making things up.

You never said any of what you wrote?

Yes, you are wrong.

> "D'OH!"

What's that all about? Homer Simpson or something?

> "I came back for more because you bold faced lied about me in a public

Did not.

Because you are entertaining. You do get boring here and there, true, but stuff like the "move to Somalia" that's entertaining.

> "you didn't read most of my posts"

I read some of your replies, even if I don't take them seriously.

> "'done with this thread'"

Did I say that? (to paraphrase that cop, if Obama can say we are out of Iraq and then come back, why can't I?)

> "(proving you a liar)"

No, you're the liar.

> "I think most of those following this thread have seen which of us is wrong,
> angry, and frustrated, and it ain't me buddy."

I don't know who is or isn't following the thread, and I don't really care or know if anyone following cares. You obviously do, attention seeker that you are.

This is the kind of ridiculous statement that makes you "funny." Keep it up.

I challenge you to support your fallacious assertion "talking smack to people he despises by MAKING SHIT UP," AND for that matter produce any other user with whom I share even mild friction much less the enmity you dribblingly profess.

...BUT...YOU WILL NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, even though it is of your raising, AS YOU NEVER DO...only more pitiable spewing. It cannot help it.

Your wild baseless caroms of vitriolic, profanity laden, diatribe are malodorous and tiresome. I do not despise anyone here and your assertion otherwise is as self servingly transparent as it is false. And you rise to naught but mild disgust. But, that is too much to put up with here.

Phonebloks

ChaosEngine says...

What they're proposing is essentially similar to how desktop PCs work.

You have a central motherboard and then you swap in and out components.

But there are several problems with this:

First, a technical challenge: You can't simply rearrange the blocks like that. The connections between the cpu and the ram and storage and power are all different and for good reasons.

Next, upgradability: later this year, I will upgrade my primary work/gaming PC. What it really needs is a new CPU. But a new CPU means a new motherboard and probably new RAM. So I don't see this being as upgradeable as they think.

That said.. those are solvable problems compared to the main issue. Economics.

What is the incentive for Apple, Samsung, HTC, etc to produce one of these, or even parts for one? They would essentially commodify their own products and reduce any point of differentiation.

oritteropo said:

Having repaired my iphone, this isn't actually that different to what we have now, except less integrated and uglier and more prone to the incompatibilities and bugs that @ant points out.

It could be made to work, provided there was a firm standard that everybody adhered to... it wouldn't necessarily be as good as they say, and isn't the only possible solution to the problem... for example, manufacturer refurbished phones are another solution, third party remanufacturing would also be technically possible if politically challenging.
