Star Wars Floppy Disk

jmd says...

I knew the c64 could do this with the 1541 drives (Ive owned 2 types of em, and modded one with jiffy dos chips), but my experience with newer pc drives have lead me to believe the low level of hardware access needed, to control the stepper directly, was not available. Anyone have a link that says different?

I was gonna say the same thing about the C64. I know personally from 20 years ago that this could be achieved on C64 drive so was not skeptical that someone could not pull the same thing off today.

Angry Video Game Nerd -- NES Accessories

As an old C64 gamer, I didn't even know most of these controllers existed. Head tracking, with sound activation?? MIDI(?) keyboards? Wow. Hey game developers out there, what the hell have you done for us lately? This dusty old junk from ages ago was far more innovative (ignoring the problems) than anything you've presented in a decade (not counting the wii, since it's also from Nintendo). Some of these techs are long overdue for a revisit.

Awesome Exit Commercial

grinter: I wouldn't get too excited about the game. I only played through the XLA trial, but if the full game is any good then they need to fire everyone involved with the demo. It's a slow 2d puzzle-action-platformer thing: jumping, yawning and unlocking doors and what not. Kind of like Goonies on the C64, if you have a long memory. Problem: it controls like molasses, and if the difficulty ever rises over "none" I can't imagine the frustration that would be involved in waiting for your hero to get anywhere.

This is great! I love the SID music chip. I have over 30,000 C64 songs on my computer at home and i listen to them regularly. Things sure have changed since then, but this brings me back to a better time!

Angry Video Game Nerd - Ghostbusters (NES)

MINK says...

this was actually my favourite game for a long long time, mainly because I couldn't get it, because I had a BBC Micro and it was only on C64. I even wrote to the publisher to beg them to port it. I can't remember why I liked it, I just liked it. Stranger things have happened.

bbc electron, vic 20, and C64 were the first ones i had.

edit:actually that's not true, we had an orange box that had pong on it in the hardware, no idea what it was called. - thats the first i remember.
