Lest We Forget: The Big Lie Behind the Rise of Trump

Drachen_Jager says...

Whoo, a lot to unpack here.

Trump is an "it" now? Are you admitting he's some sort of androgynous alien, or a robot?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_two-dollar_bill
I presume you meant that literally about the birth certificate, right?

What should we "loose" the dogs of war?

I think the very language you choose, the weakness of your arguments, and the stupidity of picking a metaphor which absolutely contradicts the argument you appear to be attempting show us all we need to know. Bob, I'm sorry to say this, but you're not very smart. I know you think you are, frankly Trump thinks he is as well, which is perhaps why you like him.

Stupidity doesn't inherently make you wrong, but in this case you simply don't have any good arguments. Yes, Trump won, but not for any of the reasons you propose. He's not a good businessman, to the point where NO major American bank will even consider giving him a loan (and this has been the case for over a decade). He is, however, a fairly effective con-man and as his first week in office shows, there's no thought, no rationale. He just promised the moon and now it's time to deliver he has no idea how he'll follow through.

America wasn't destroyed by Obama (even though you promised us it would be), but it very well might be by Trump. All one has to do is go through your old posts during the Obama era to see you're basically wrong about everything all the time. The only possible reasons you keep it up are a) your memory is simply too short to encompass things you said years ago, or b) you're just a troll and don't really care that you're wrong.

Utter Bull shit.-- The Liberal Left still don't get it.

Trump won because it is promising jobs and to make America great again.

No one gave a shit that Obama was 1/2 black.
The birth certificate -- fake as a $2bill.

But the left are using these as the reasons for the massive Democrat party loss.

Keep it up -- live in bubble and keep loosing.

I wanted Cruz
But it was between Trump and Clinton. A millionaire crook or a billionaire businessman. And the left blames it on racism and the Russians. Delusional.

After the huge loss the Clinton Foundation is closing it doors. Guess it had no more favors to sell.

Even you must admit that honesty and integrity are totally lacking in Trump, he wrote a book about how useless and damaging those traits are to a businessman.

Noam Chomsky on Trump and neo fascist similarities

shagen454 says...

I find it... grotesque, that many of the "disenfranchised" men voted for Trump, even though he is only going to line the pockets of the few. That is what Trump does, he is only in this for himself and/or people like him; he is a cult of personality & a greedy businessman completely disconnected from reality. How he actually connected with such a vast ocean of morons is mind-blowing - 1) Fuck the two party system 2) Fuck the Electoral College.

I like that Chomsky points out that these people don't like being talked down to. But, if they would have opened their fucking ears - they would have heard Sanders talking about the MIDDLE CLASS, over and over and over again. Sanders actually wanted to do something for the majority ---- along with these IDIOTS --- that voted in Trump. Whom, yes, is going to get them temporary coal jobs and natural gas jobs...

Is that what they really want? Some shitty job that will ruin the environment so badly that their children will be living in a glass bubble with Amazon teleporting breakfast, lunch & dinner as they look out across black skies, thinking the images of the world they see on Google are a fantasy?

Bill Maher - New Rule - The Danger of False Equivalency

RedSky says...

I think it's not so much not being able to tell them apart but not being willing to investigate them beyond their labels. I spend some time in other online communities with people from the US and the sense I get is Clinton is generally seen as corrupt and criminal and Trump as perhaps sexist / racist but a good businessman. I would argue both labels are to some extent misleading and false.

I don't see much discussion that goes beyond those labels. In both cases from the snippets I've seen of US TV and of some online tabloids, that's about as deep as the discussion goes. To really understand the problem with both candidates you need to read good editorial work from more reputable / long form media (weekly publications, newspapers that aren't tabloids) and frankly I think very few have been willing to do that.

Much of it comes down to politics being treated as entertainment and reading long written articles simply isn't entertaining. Unfortunately it's going the same way here in Australia. Everyone is obsessed about opinion polls. We might have short periods of formal election campaigning (unlike the epic US election process), but because of only 3 years between elections for our Prime Minister (and the fact that he or she can and does get replaced within those 3 years by Parliament, unlike the US President), we have constant personal political battles and recrimination rather than deliberation over policy.

I mean right now, we have a prime minister (Turnbull, re-elected earlier this year), who unseated a previously elected prime minister (Abbott, in the previous term) by a vote of no confidence. Abbott himself (several parliamentary terms before) had successfully unseated Turnbull as minority leader (when another party held the prime minister-ship). Now there are rumors that Abbott wants to challenge Turnbull. And that's just one of our political parties.

I only listened to that last 3 minutes because of ^, and because i generaly can't stomach Bill.

I have a hard time buying into the idea that people can't tell them apart. You don't have to do much/any study to see that they are incredibly different. Just because you don't like either of them doesn't in any way say that you think they are equal. I hate them both for completely different reasons. And although i dislike them both I would rather one of them be president over the other. My vote however will not reflect who that is.

New Rule: America Rules, Trump Drools

newtboy says...

What little we know about Trump....he's a tax cheat, charity fraud, rapist (according to an ex wife), misogynist, racist, serial adulterer that tries to screw his 'friend's' wives, and a failed businessman probably deep in debt to our enemies and competetors that produced (didn't write, although he claimed he had) a book about how to get ahead by lying that's screwed over every person that's ever done business with him, and has never made money for others.
What we know about Clinton, she's a politician that acts like one, meaning lying and obfuscating, that made a bad move once with some emails.
Trying to compare the two is impossible, there isn't a scale that stretches that far.

You can just not vote then because it wont change anything.

I just dont get how some of you Americans are so afraid of Trump. Yeah, hes a loudmouth, but thats about it. He talks a lot of crap, but a lot is lied about or blown up by the media. He didnt show yet what he can do. Hillary on the other hand has shown very well what kind of sick despicable stuff she does and how much she cares about it getting public: She just lies more and puts up her creepy disconnected grin when confronted with it.

I think it shows perfectly whats wrong with the USA. Words mean more to you than actions. Fits perfectly into the Americans hypocrite stereotype. You have been lied to so much that you adapted it yourselves and thus hiding behind political correctness gives some kind of protection from the truth that has been going on for decades, not only in your own country, but especially the shit you did in other countries, killing millions of people, causing the mess we are in today. And here comes a guy who doesnt give a shit about it and just speaks his mind. Must be scary for a lot of people, who have been lying to themselves and others for their whole lives, I guess.

New Hillary Clinton Campaign Ad Adjusted To Reality

Drachen_Jager says...

There's no discussion here. Clinton has played fast and loose with the rules for her own gain, she's gamed the system, she's taken the expedient position far more times than she's taken the good, honorable, or right positions. She's not a very good choice for president.

Donald Trump is bankrupt. He claims to be a great businessman, but in reality it certainly appears he owes more than he has right now. In any case, at the very LEAST, even if you take his own over-inflated assessment of his net worth he'd have been further ahead putting his money in indexed mutual funds than trusting his own business acumen. He'd have been farther ahead still if he'd just held on to all the real estate daddy left him. The best you can say about him, business wise, is that after stiffing contractors for their pay, paying NO taxes for decades, and arranging at least six bankruptcies in such a way that he took minimum damage and his investors bore the brunt.... after all that, he's only BEHIND a few billion dollars from where he'd be if he'd just invested it and left it alone.

On top of that, it certainly appears he's a rapist, or at the very least guilty of sexual assault. He's so weak and afraid he has to constantly bully and puff himself up (this is not how strong people act). He appears to have little to no grasp of international affairs, tax policy, the environment, the economy. Worse still, he doesn't care that he knows nothing and makes no attempt to educate himself.

So... rapist-psychopath-egomaniac-moron, or lady who's a bit shifty. Hmm, tough choice.

THE BEST TRUMP AD EVER ☆☆☆☆☆彡

newtboy says...

I can't wait for Jack White to sue him.

Most ridiculous, jingoistic, fear mongering Trump commercial ever.
America is strong, proud, and great today....and Trump wants to change all that.

To answer a few of the questions in the description.....
What agenda? Good question, it changes by the hour and depends on the audience, but clearly his agenda is to get more money and power over others...his lifelong goals.

Successful business dealings....only according to himself, and with absolutely zero proof he's not actually deep in debt. How many bankruptcies does it take to be labeled a poor businessman?
Egotistical narcissists like him always need more power, it's how he measures his value as a human....and yours. If you're powerless, you're also worthless to him.
He's never once proven himself, he bends over backwards to hide his actions, business dealings, and actual net worth. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out his net worth is a negative number.

Regressive policies are never a good thing, and it's all he's suggesting (but clearly he'll have no problem ignoring every thing he's said if he wins...he won't need you pleebs for another 4 years, and he'll just dupe you again then, it's apparently easy, just offer a scapegoat for their failures, add lies and anger, and stir well. It's working so far.)
If he wins, buy gold. The market will tank, and might not come back.

Woman Refuses to Leave Uber Car

Payback says...

You can in Washington and a couple other places. It's a new service.

Oh and by the way, Uber claims this is "ride sharing" so he's NOT a businessman, his car is NOT a place of business. The woman has been "invited" to "share" the ride.

...or are you claiming Uber is lying about its services?

As the owner of the vehicle, he can turf her any time he pleases. In fact, in more than a few places, there is a concept called "assault by trespass". It's how people shoot an unarmed burglar and it's still considered self-defence. Also, inviting someone into your property is meaningless if you want them to leave. There's no "but he said I could be here a minute ago" right to stay. The only people who can't be removed from your property after you let them in are vampires.

The Trump analogy should be more like comparing a businessman failing 3 business to trying to legitimize some criminal enterprise. The failed businessman is still legitimate and the criminal still isn't.

This decision is a rip in the American fabric equal to Roe VS Wade.

The Rollercoaster Was Invented to Save America from Satan

EMPIRE says...

it's funny that the rollercoaster was invented in the US, because here in Portugal it's called "Montanha-Russa", which translates to "Russian Mountain". I've never investigated it, but I guess the first contact the portuguese had with a rollercoaster must have been through a russian businessman or something.
