MakeWar | Defund The Police

eric3579 says...

Dishonest,
people starting shit for the wrong cause.
Emotions,
sparking in our brains from all the lies.
I can’t breathe,
you’re choking me, I swear I’m the wrong guy.
I can’t speak,
the color of my skin makes me a liar.
Disarm the flock,
of human pigs.
If they meant no harm,
why would they need
these shiny guns?
Against these kids who were unarmed and full of fear,
protect and serve?
You’re not fooling me!
Now what?
They’re gone and you’re excused?
No future…No resolution…
This place used to be different.
Everyone was nicer.
Some of you would even help another.
Now we fight about the differences, that some of us just carry.
In our blood and in our genes and the place my mom was born.
Retired men
are freaking out
with all these kids,
that are coming out.
Leave them alone!
And continue living your boring reality.
They are superstars,
and you are nothing!
Holy shit!
They won’t stop!
Blaming it on being old school?
No excuses!
Not anymore!
Racist homophobes,
preaching the wrong words,
your time is fucking done!
You want freedom of speech?
You make me fucking sick!
Your future’s obsolete!

And the time will come when we’ll be free to be who we are or wear what we pleased without being scared. The time is now!

How's that Trump 2020 air treating you? Enjoy breathing while you can I suppose. Well Trump says it's under control and he's saved X lives and blah blah and he wants all the schools open immediately. I say wear a mask but I just watched him in a video say that people need the freedom to not wear them.

YOU SHOULD GO BREATHE NEAR THOSE PEOPLE YOU WORTHLESS FUCK.

For the alt-fact conspiracy believing nincompoops, I'm afraid this video is not good enough to convince them. They'll dispute the heck out of the video as a "fake setup."

I can think of:

1) Need to zoom out more so the sensor is clearly shown to be attached to the monitor at all time

2) no cutting out frames (speed up segments are OK?),

3) show the effect on the indicator's ### by not having the sensor attached to the finger (e.g. drops down to 00 or Error), and,

4) show the number by holding the breath (nostrils pinched & mouth closed) for an extended time to see it drops significantly as verification.

What "defund the police" really means

newtboy says...

Thank you....accepted.

The "no good cop" part is right...it's not guilt by association though, it's guilt by being complicit, not turning them in, turning a blind eye, lying to protect the "bad apples"...being accessories after the fact is criminal. Yes, failure to clean their own house makes them bad cops. That's fixable, but only if they clean house...the best, easiest, most thorough way would be fire them all and only reinstate those with clean records, those with complaints need retraining at the least before being police again, many need to be fired. Not perfect, but better than most suggestions imo.
Edit: I do like the suggestion to make it the law that they must intervene if another cop is out of control, and must report it. I also support body cams that can't be turned off, but I want covering them or taking them off to be a felony.

I did say fire them all....but also said to hire them back. That gives us an opportunity to say 'this guy has 27 complaints and 3 multi-million dollar settlements paid out, he's not cop material'. Union rules won't let cops be fired even for cause most times, and absolutely won't allow a national registry of criminal cops. Those facts need to change if the culture is to change.

I agree, there are those few out there advocating no police....I'm just not one of them.

I'm of the opinion that if we keep any of the bad apples, nothing else matters, they'll corrupt the rest. The best way to save the bunch is remove any apples that even LOOK bad....that may leave us with a massive shortage, but that's FAR better than the criminal force we have today, no? One bad apple spoils the bunch...I wish those crying about a just few bad apples understood the phrase they're parsing.

Nothing will satisfy EVERYONE, but it actually takes very little to placate most mobs, just the suggestion that they've been heard is often enough, and why things got so bad. Too often "we hear you" is the only reform, and even that is forgotten as soon as the streets are cleared. I hope this time is different, but I'm not holding my breath.

Apologies, didn't mean to misrepresent you. We've debated things before and you seemed to lean to no cop is a good cop because there are so many bad ones guilt be association and failure to clean things up makes them all bad. You'd also said up thread to fire all active officers.

I'll cease trying to word how you feel on it, I just wanted to demonstrate by counter example that not everybody means 'reform' when they say "defund". At a minimum , the degree of 'reform' varies from change some laws and regulations to fire them and start over from scratch.

My comment of being ruled by our 'betters' was meant as a sarcastic dig on them and their abject failure in letting things rot this far and doing nothing.

Finally, my comment on public opinion on solutions being non-uniform was mostly to emphasize that as just normal, and the current status quo is just so unacceptable that it is unifying people from varied points of view to stand up against it. The most important point being that declaring, see nothing will satisfy the mob because they can't agree what to do is a twisted deception and the truth is people want things to be better than they are, and there is as you pointed out tonnes of common sense ways to go about that,

Democrats acted quickly, first to shelter in place, San Francisco, first state, California.....Trump pushed back and kept Republican run cities and states open while insisting there was no pandemic, Chinese hoax, liberal hoax, less deadly than the flu, gone by April, no ppe shortage, everyone can get a test. Cases in those states are mostly still on the upswing, with round two now a certainty.

Trump is still breathing. America is losing.

Police Who Murder Man In Public On Camera Fired

newtboy says...

F¥¢k.....ok, preliminary autopsy...unless you found something I can't. Still...F¥¢k.
Could be I'm right then, they're setting up a prosecution they hope will fail, and ignoring/hiding the evidence of what killed him to shield the direct killer(s). That's one more reason they should all be tried together no matter which one stopped his breathing, they all helped murder him.

surfingyt said:

the autopsy showed no evidence of strangulation. almost like they were setting up to brush this under the rug, but had to stop once people started rioting.

Police Who Murder Man In Public On Camera Fired

newtboy says...

Absolutely correct....but after he stopped moving and breathing with a dozen witnesses and on cameras, odds are good you would beat any charges. If I was a jurist I would never convict.

I'm worried.....they charged the cop who was on camera, but I haven't heard about any autopsy. It seems likely that the officer(s) off camera, knee to his midsection and/or full body weight, is the one that caused his death. It's hard to strangle someone with a knee unless they're face up. There were three holding him, not one helping him, they're all guilty here.
I'm afraid the charges are designed to placate the masses then fall apart....again.

surfingyt said:

i agree its tempting to stop this from happening... but you say this after the fact that floyd is dead.

in your scenario, the person being arrested ends up living. so he goes to jail, alive. you get arrested for assaulting an officer and obstructing justice and now have to prove the person would have died if you had not intervened. that's a steep uphill battle but i would be on your side.

When the one guy finally moaned it instantly reminded me of when I was kid and got the wind knocked out of me. I couldn't suck in any air. I had to let someone know I couldn't breathe and that moan was exactly what came out of me. Then I was able gasp in some air and start to breathe again. Really scared me at the time.

This is now Logan's Run *dead

Come away, come away, Death,
And in sad cypress let me be laid;
Fly away, fly away, breath,
I am slain by a fair cruel maid.
My shroud of white stuck all with yew, O prepare it!
My part of death no one so true did share it.

Not a flower, not a flower sweet,
On my black coffin let there be strewn:
Not a friend, not a friend greet
My poor corpse, where my bones shall be thrown.
A thousand thousand sighs to save, lay me O where
Sad true lover never find my grave, to weep there!

I think Bill Maher is with you on this. Not in advocating population control, but at least to not have offspring.

Population Control is just a nightmare on so many levels. The heartbreaks and gender imbalance introduced by China is devastating.

Most governments (and thus its people) are conditioned to think free-market capitalism is the only future. Economic growth is the only way forward. it's all about Growth, Growth, Growth. Never about the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and "Waste Not, Want Not" kind of life practice.

It can only be down to the individuals to do what's right. I don't hold my breath waiting for government or society-wide action.

newtboy said:

Way too long, didn't watch, but I must disagree with the description.
Population control is hardly removed from the debate. IMO it's just ignored when it's brought up because the vast majority of people won't even consider not having children to the point where when China tried to take action and limit couples to one child the world called them draconian monsters instead of intelligent.
I personally often say I think every problem facing humanity and the planet is a function of overpopulation, and I'm not alone. I admit, I'm rare in that I put my money where my mouth is and had a vasectomy in my twenties before having children. I'm of the belief that no other action could possibly have the positive effect that not adding to the population does, but I also bought a full solar system over a decade back and try to grow most of my own food, and I drive well under 5000 miles a year.
There's no reason to abandon population control in favor of technological fixes or vice versa, indeed I believe maximising both won't fully solve our issues that have taken over a century to create, but I also believe not acting in every way possible to mitigate our damages leads to certain doom for most species.
I also think none of this will make a whit of difference in the grand scheme because way too many people have decided making any lifestyle sacrifices or not wastefully living above their means is intolerable even if it means their children suffer for it.
