nah. Allen Carr made a great point when he claimed that there are no positive things for cigarettes. So far I've spent my days at work and not smoking here is easy...just gotta keep busy. The real test will be this weekend because I know I'll have a couple of cocktails. Thanks for the concern

Two days, that's awesome! Have you made any changes in your lifestyle to help you quit?

Up-voting even though I personally had a hard time relating to this guy's message. I'm a smoker, and so I watched it because even though I have no desire to quit, I'm open to ideas that challenge my own. What's strange is that half of his poker chips wouldn't even be on the table for me, they aren't a factor either way. Boredom? I don't think I've ever lit up because I was bored.
I'm still trying to figure out what he says for the 3rd reason (3rd poker chip) to not smoke. It sounds like he says... Slavery?

I also smoke. I am going to try and utilize his philosophy as it makes a bit of sense to me. I'm not one of those "self-help" nuts, so I don't think I'll be going to the extent of buying his book, but I can relate to his message. Smoking really doesn't make my life better (anymore). It, in many ways, hinders my life in more ways than just my health.

...this is day 2, we'll see how it goes

Survey: How Often Do You Use VideoSift? (Blog Entry by lucky760)

I'm here usually daily, sometimes multiple times per day (depending on boredom/work levels). Check out the main page, top 15, follow a few suggested links, read talk posts linked at the top (like this one), etc...

One small prediction (Politics Talk Post)

rougy says...

I was going to respond but thought better of it. Many, many things I can do right now that are more important. You are one of the imbeciles that I ignore, after all, till boredom strikes and I need a fool to remind me of life's folly. Hear me, son?

Except I will say that the simple act of being outrageous works better for the child than it does for the man.

Unless you're Ann Coulter.

You know...CP420...if worse comes to worse you can always go down to Kinko's and get a tee shirt that says:

"I'm an attention whore; pay attention to me or I'll fart at inopportune moments."

when i was in the navy years ago seemed every country we stopped, especially in the persian gulf(hated that tour, they didnt like americans at all, even back then) there were always kids begging..and yeah..it got annoying after awhile.
but thats not the reason im commenting.
it was the sentence "disillusioned peace/love monger then this might upset you"
uh....huh?
makes no sense..the words you chose are paradoxical.
maybe this sentence would be more apt.
"for those of you who politically correct, and are easily offended by foul language and brazen insensitivity then this video may upset you".
that sentence makes more sense.
those who have not been in combat readiness situations probably would not understand this mans humor.the constant threat of attack, followed by days upon days of boredom can de-sensitize people.
miltary and former military understand this, for the rest they most likely dont.
i think thats what you trying to get across,im not trying to put words in your mouth, nor be a smart ass( ok..i am a wee bit) but that one sentence made no sense.
anyways...i been there,done that,and yeah....its funny.
think you have to have been there to get it tho.
maybe thats just me.

more or less, yes that is what i was conveying. I just wanted to be a jerk about it in a sort of tongue-in-cheek sort of way =P

Long Gone - Music video

Tupho says...

Boring music, boring video! The band kinda reminds me of boredom. Another new band for me to not listen to. The fact that it was created entirely from 45,000 Photographs taken by a Nikon DSLR, is not impressive. Animation has been around for something like a hundred years and still every time someone makes an animation film everyone goes: wow! thats so...art...like! It must have taken an eternity! you must be a very patient person! how many images? 45.000?!?! wow thats a large number. you must be able to count very far.

sorry. Hope noone got personally offended.

McCain 2008 Campaign Secrets

It's not news anymore, it's entertainment.

"We're in the boredom killing business!"

The thing that shocked me most about this wasnt any of the secrets, it's that the news media AGREED to keep all these secrets!!!! It's their duty to us to report the news, not to powder coat the candidates until AFTER we've choosen!! This is a disgrace to american news, if such a thing even exists!

Can You Guess the Movie From Just One Letter? (Cinema Talk Post)

laura says...

one time, in algebra class, I was sleeping with my eyes open in boredom...
...and the guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder.
Was passing me a note.
I looked around me...no one was making eye contact, not even the guy passing the note.
I took it and unfolded it.
It read : " B R E A T H E "

Bill Maher - New Rules 9/12/08

spoco2 says...

A lot of what he says is true, but in this particular instance, he would just be pissing off a lot of people.

* Yes indeed your founding fathers were all for separation of church and state and science and rationality and treating everyone with respect. BUT to start turning this into a West vs East thing is not a good idea. Even if it were started by the Republicans, best not to propagate the myth. There can be well minded and meaning people in any part of your country, don't start getting people offside just because they live in California.

* Insulting small towns en mass... erm, not a great idea. While there are a lot of issues in small towns (boredom leading to drug use and young pregnancy being right up there... yes, the facts support that), it's not a good idea to piss off all small towners. There are good things in small towns too, more community interaction, more looking out for each other etc. Which can be very absent in the big smoke.

* Trying to put brunch up against going to church is just going to piss off so many people, including those in the 'elites'. I would pick brunch over church any day of the week, but trying to make people think it's a viable alternative to 'being a good Christian' is going to make them think so little of you and turn them against what you're trying to say.

I usually love Maher, and I agree with his views almost entirely. BUT, when there's an election at stake, and being in the public eye means that what he says CAN actually have an effect on the outcome... I wish he'd do it with a little more intelligence.
