Scotch Tape Makes Frosted Glass Transparent
>> ^Buck:
Zifnab-"So where I work I have about a 12" frosted glass barrier on top of my counter for privacy reasons. I found out today that a simple piece of scotch tape will make the opaque glass clear? It was quite strange."
I lol'd picturing the boredom and chain of events needed to discover this at work.
That's what was on the YouTube vid, I had similar thoughts when I read it as well.

Saturday Morning Cartoons - Rocket Robin Hood Intro
I hate this fucking show. Never knew it was Canadian, but I am not surprised. I am challenged to remember any Canadian TV that didn't cause stifling boredom in my youth. As a 12 year old cartoon maniac I can't even put into words the distaste I had for this cartoon, which offered the least scientific science fiction, and least adventurous adventure that has ever been half-heartedly cobbled together by workmen who obviously couldn't give half a shit about what they were producing. I think the worst part was how much of the show consisted of titles, interstitials, teases, and recaps. If an episode was 22 minutes there was probably 11 minutes of content.
And don't even get me started on the quality of the animation or sound. This is some of the cheapest looking bullshit nimation ever put on television.
God I hate it so much. Funny thing is the same studio made The Mighty Hercules which I loved as a kid.
Llama Shearing
I once tries using these kind of shears to clip my sheep (Lincolnshire Longwools) - 1 attempt was enough, it was painfully slow and as the sheep has to be really be on its back, more distressing for it.
However slow this will undoubtedly be on a llama, at least it's standing up and may only suffer from abject boredom - although the speed of her cutting its coat will have grown back the time she's finished!
What is the best sci-fi/fantasy movie series? (User Poll by Throbbin)
My thoughts:
1. Star Wars
On a whole different level as far as mythic filmmaking. Rings very deeply, almost universally, with people of our generation (I'm 33). It rings so deep that it's a better guide to basic humanity than most parents and religions.. or at least the OT is. Too bad the prequels get so confused with the morality, having Anakin basically just "turn evil" for what the average viewer takes out of the story. I really regret not attending the marathon OT screening which I bought tickets for in 1995.
2. Star Trek
A bit uneven, but in my opinion I, II, III, and VIII (First Contact) are classics in sci-fi/fantasy film. Part II, nobody can argue with. I don't think First Contact gets enough respect for having lots of action while hitting emotional beats, all with a tight plot. Yes it subverts the whole idea of the borg a bit, but they already did that with the TNG episodes about the borg "Hugh". Can't wait for the blu-ray of that film. Also pretty excited to see the new version, which I believe opens next week. One of the rare times lately that I'll be going out to see something rather than wait for the blu-ray.
3. Lord of the Rings
Also totally classic, but a bit repetitious with all the walking and swordfighting and hobbit jargon and slow-mo moony-face shots of Elijah Wood. Still, classic enough that I'll be buying it on blu-ray or maybe even the next higher-def format beyond that.
4. Harry Potter
Didn't read the books. Really didn't like the first film, found it all too precocious and tedious. Was curious enough mainly due to boredom at the time to see the second, which was a decent improvement in terms of relatability for the non-readership. Part 3 was frigging awesome, really liked the visual style and the story was satisfying, finally some real darkness. Part 4 was a bit boring, I think I fell asleep in the movie theatre. Recently watched part 5 on blu-ray, found it pretty amusing and like the visual style which is understated compared to part 3 but wonderfully art-designed. Looking forward to the next two movies although not exactly salivating.
5. The Matrix
What more can be said? Could have been the greatest. Could have unseated Star Wars. For my generation, the first one is an all-time, top-five classic regardless of genre, and from a certain POV can be taken as a hard sci-fi film. Then the second and third come along and they're just so far up their own asses that it's almost hard to watch. To put this in perspective I say that about Matrix Reloaded having seen it a total of six (possibly seven, can't remember) times in theatres.
Naked man tasered multiple times at Coachella festival
If the worst thing that happens at a music festival these days is that a magician takes his clothes off, the cops must have acted out of sheer boredom.
Fucking hell, these are places that people go to take drugs and do silly things. The organisers should have security, not cops. Security to deal with silly people taking drugs. Tasers are completely excessive.
The Daily Show 4/21/09 - The Stockholm Syndrome
"Apparently the assembly line is the only thing that relieves the boredom of 16 months paid maternity leave, 10 weeks paid vacation, free gym membership and the company spa." - gold

Sure, sure - your point was fact, so of course it's valid I was just explaining why I mentioned Finnish (should have simply mentioned Estionian as well), trying to diminish the ego-tripping image of myself I'd created.
RE:Mensa - OK, I won't. Am probably too lazy to do actually join anyway
In reply to this comment by rasch187:
Yeah, Estonian is Finno-Ugric as well, but my point still stands I'm just trying to keep your feet on the ground, homeboy
edit: and after having read your 25 random facts post; whatever you do, don't join MENSA. It's just a huge ego trip that turns into boredome. Trust me.
In reply to this comment by EDD:
Except it just happens so that I meet and chat and hang around Estonians almost every other day. Just sayin
P.S. Don't think of me as someone too self-centered. Sure, I may queue up audio of myself talking in the background while jerking off, but that's the only way to get off for a lot of people, right?

did you not start stabbing all your videos to death as soon as you were unhobbified? that could have something to do with your current paralysis.

I don't like the Siftquisition, and I proved it by issuing two of them against a person and a bot who didn't deserve them.
I also don't like the HOBBITTING, because there's no timeline for the cuffs to be removed. So even after my April Fool's Day boredom and joking are gone from my system, I still can't promote great videos or Sift Talk posts, downvote comments of which I don't approve, dupeof videos that are duplicates, etc.

Maybe hobbling should be more like a sinbin thing but the admin can sling you back in there quickly if deemed necessary. I don't know your situation but it seems you've been hobbled for a long time now.

This thread has reached the boredom threshold for me. I'm sure we will pick this up again somewhere very soon, so hold those thoughts and questions till then.
The Worlds Smartest Man Works in a Bar (Fascinating)
im annoyed with this talk of a terrible past and how his early circumstances are supposed to have some bearing on what he is or is not able to achieve in adulthood. bullshit. this is a measure of mental/emotional strength which is far more important than an arguably arbitrary number. i could knock back hard knocks stories until we all fucking cry, it is no excuse for my current laziness and boredom.
creativity and emotional strength are far more inspriring/admirable qualities, says i.
also all this "HE WORKS IN A BAR" talk is pfft. i used to deliver pizza and sling coffee, didnt make any more or less useful as a human. vocation is not equal to worth.
the stuff about proving the existance of god with binary logic sounds too much like some schizofrenics i have known and loved. he should get that checked out.
ass.

oh and in the words of Mark Twain, "Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times"

Two days, that's awesome! Have you made any changes in your lifestyle to help you quit?

Up-voting even though I personally had a hard time relating to this guy's message. I'm a smoker, and so I watched it because even though I have no desire to quit, I'm open to ideas that challenge my own. What's strange is that half of his poker chips wouldn't even be on the table for me, they aren't a factor either way. Boredom? I don't think I've ever lit up because I was bored.
I'm still trying to figure out what he says for the 3rd reason (3rd poker chip) to not smoke. It sounds like he says... Slavery?
I also smoke. I am going to try and utilize his philosophy as it makes a bit of sense to me. I'm not one of those "self-help" nuts, so I don't think I'll be going to the extent of buying his book, but I can relate to his message. Smoking really doesn't make my life better (anymore). It, in many ways, hinders my life in more ways than just my health.
...this is day 2, we'll see how it goes
