Detroit Lt. Arrested For DUI

Payback says...

Uh... no... "Blood Alcohol Content" levels don't work that way...

He blew a B.A.C. of 0.28%, not 28%. Around a quarter of one percent of his blood was alcohol. Alcohol is THAT toxic to you, that less than half a percent can kill you.

28% is like, embalming fluid kinda shit...

His .28 is like, 2 dozen american beer or a Canadian six-pack.

I also figure he probably downed a flask to get rid of the evidence before being pulled over and that probably dropped him from "merely shitfaced" to "mortally endangered" by the time they tested him.

the dude blew a .28 after the ride to the station and going through booking. That isn't a typo, literally over 1/4 of the blood in his body was actually alcohol.

Bill Maher - Elizabeth Warren Interview

newtboy says...

It seems that way, but that's only true for idiots that, as he said, would have voted for him if he blatantly murdered random strangers in the street. Under no circumstances would those people vote for Warren, even though they totally agree with her positions.

Normal, reasonable people, the kind that would vote for Warren, still consider many things as disquaifiers, including many things Trump has done in his first 100 days. We would have voted to impeach over the investigations of Trump and his campaign, and a vote of no confidence, halting any of his plans until the investigations are concluded, because he might be a foreign agent.

I think he won because the DNC chose a candidate that was 100% unacceptable to Republicans, or right learners, or centrists, or real progressives (and she personally blew it with pandering bullshit obfuscation like "I support $15 an hour,..................... but I don't support a $15 an hour minimum wage"), and totally screwed over and dismissed independents in the process, ensuring they wouldn't get the votes she needed.

That's the great thing about Trump; he's set the trend that skeletons don't matter. I think if Warren runs, she'll bag it easily.

The problem with the Democrat run last time was dismissing Trump's support and why it existed. Warren sounds like she could use that to her advantage next time around.

Personally I think she could be the best potus in a long, long time.

I'm not trying to troll, but what about US military actions in these countries where we are killing them? If you want talk death, we've lost US citizens over there. If I blew up someone's town, I'd think twice about having live next to my family.

This isn't the first time and the dude blew a .28 after the ride to the station and going through booking. That isn't a typo, literally over 1/4 of the blood in his body was actually alcohol. Death from alcohol poisoning can occur at .37 or higher.

The scary thing is that his tolerance must be massive, because he was still somewhat capable of speech and movement. Usually .25 to .30 level drinkers display general inertia, near total loss of motor functions, little response to stimuli, inability to stand or walk, vomiting, and incontinence.

Introverts vs Extroverts

MilkmanDan says...

I'm on the pretty extreme end of the introversion side of the curve.

I remember talking about introversion vs. extroversion in Psych 101 at college. I think that talking about it in that classroom environment helped to foster a lot of understanding between both sides. Very extroverted people talked about how they would get anxiety on up to physical symptoms of discomfort if they went for several hours with zero human interaction, which completely blew my mind.

But, I'll feel similar discomfort if you drop me into a loud, crowded party. If I'm ever trapped in a situation like that, I quickly escalate from nervous to annoyed to "honey badger in a corner" enraged.

I think there is definitely a societal extroversion bias, but a lot of it is well-intentioned. Many leaders tend to be extroverts, and they sort of "feel sorry" for people who seem to distance themselves from the group. Then they will try to incorporate those people into the group, thinking that they are doing them a favor. But in many cases, that is the exact opposite of what we introverts actually want.

I think that both personality types have advantages that can make them uniquely suited towards specific tasks. A really good leader understands both types and knows how to get the best out of either.

Jurassic World, Jurassic Values

artician says...

I agree with him up until he tries to define the 'purpose' of film in general, making everything he said before it sound uselessly subjective (it is anyway with his 'subtitling'.)

Anyway, thought the film was the definition of a summer movie; hated that female character, and blew it off when someone told me she was some sort of feminist ideal, with her vacuous personality and moronic attachment to shoes.

Trump Jokes That Gun Owners Can 'Fix' the Clinton Problem

Sylvester_Ink says...

Didn't Hillary also make an implication about Obama being assassinated in 2008? Only I don't recall anyone making as much of a big deal about it back then. Meanwhile, this quote can actually be construed as Trump pointing out that gun owners would be the only ones able to fight back against their gun rights being taken away in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

If you compare both quotes side by side, both are fairly innocuous. It's just that the media blew one of them way out of proportion. Don't let the media lead you by the nose.

(And before the angry comments come, I am FAR from being a Trump supporter. I felt the Bern, and now I'm burning Green.)

Epic Rap Battles of History: James Bond vs Austin Powers

eric3579 says...

Roger Moore will always be the real James Bond to me.
First Bond film i watched at a theater was Live and Let Die(blew my mind as a child).
Last one was Moonraker.
I think i've seen a few bond films made after those, and a few of Connery's also
Daniel Craig is hardly charming or smooth enough to be a bond imo.

Two Veterans Debate Trump and his beliefs. Wowser.

bareboards2 says...

Have you been to war? I know you were in the military, but were you ever in the field? I haven't. There is a lot of science about adrenaline and fear and acting in the moment.

You think that guy who blew up a friendly is back home bragging about that? If he couldn't forgive himself, it is more likely that he is one of the thousands who come home and then kill themselves. Nobody does that on purpose. "No repercussions" is a false statement.

That is all very different from thinking about it beforehand and calmly deciding that it is a correct military strategy to kill the families of our enemies. That is currently a War Crime, unless Trump gets elected. (Although there are military higher-ups who have already publicly stated they will not follow orders to commit such acts. Will soldiers on the field say the same, when their "commander in chief" gives them permission? Some will, some won't. I'd just as soon not test that, thank you very much.)

Besides. My Lai happened and My Lai was prosecuted and military training has changed. It isn't as if we can't learn.

We do need to stop invading sovereign nations for our own gain. But that is a different topic.

Best movie breakdown ever? Children of Men

Payback says...

The scene where a certain character is shot blew me away. All through the movie are huge, epic, wandering shots. Well over several minutes without a cut. Awesome film. Not for the easily distracted though.

kceaton1 said:

Which is why I always enjoyed Children of Men. The fact that the show was so vivid and surreal the entire journey. When you can see the bad guy and his story at the same speed as the hero, and by the end it becomes a truth that we don't have to always follow the same beginning paths; we can switch and start, almost, an entirely new story...
