Camel Flings Man by the Head

newtboy says...

Or perhaps it's shocking because
1)there was no warning it would be a video of a vivisection/live semi-decapitation, but instead STILL HAS a title that implies a playful toss of a man by a camel and,
2)it was a vivisection as much as a butchering, and not at all the way animals are butchered in first world countries because we find it disgusting to see a terrified animal tied to a tree and have it's throat cut so it can bleed out slowly while conscious and aware it's being killed. I don't think a near beheading is the way it's normally done, more like a poke into the jugulars that drains the blood without the animal even knowing it's happening.
It had absolutely nothing to do with it being a camel, it was about an animal being killed in a terrifying looking way without any warning in the title.

This video shouldn't be shocking and probably the reason it is to you is that 1) you never thought to eat a camel since you grew up in a country where that wasn't common and/or 2) you've forgotten that animals actually have to be butchered before showing up on your local grocery store shelf and/or 3) you've chosen to be vegetarian (good on you) but forgotten that a large number of other people have chosen to embrace their omnivorism.

Camel Flings Man by the Head

SDGundamX says...

I didn't even notice they were butchering the camel until I read the comments. And then I watched it again and I was horrified.

But then I thought about why I was horrified and it really has more to do with the fact that we simply don't see where our meat comes from anymore in society. If I want some turkey for Christmas dinner, I can just head to the grocery store and buy one that's ready to cook (or already cooked). I don't have to go out in the backyard and chop one's head off, bleed it, pluck it, and pull its innards out with my bare hands.

So really, the horror comes from just not seeing it happen everyday (even though I'm guessing millions of animals are butchered for food worldwide every day).

The comments in YouTube suggest this camel was being killed in a Halal fashion (which would require the butchering to be done the way we see in the video--a swift cut to the carotid artery followed by a bleeding out). Turkeys are killed in the same way, I believe (though hung upside down first before having their throat slit).

So to the people who are against this video (or are actually downvoting it) I say: humans are omnivores. It's scientific fact. Most humans eat animals and that usually means killing them first.

(I know omnivorism isn't an actual dictionary word but if vegetarianism can be a word, why not?)

Here We Go Again...Rodney King Style Beating In SF

Esoog says...

Screw this bleeding heart bullshit. https://www.rt.com/usa/322241-sf-cops-beating-suspect/

The criminal nearly killed two officers with his STOLEN vehicle while trying to get away. He used a vehicle as a weapon, then sped through neighborhoods, fleeing from police. What if he had killed someone, god forbid, a child? He deserved what he got. I'm tired of idiots that deserve harsh punishment getting sympathy. The police said stop. He didn't.

Herpetologist Details His Envenomation and Death

worthwords says...

Note that in the absence of antivenom, DIC and respiratory suppression can be managed in an Intensive care setting - blood transfusions and fresh plasma for coagulation deficiencies would have been available at this time so it would have bene worth a try. I doubt that he underestimated the venom - bleeding from the gums is a clear sign of systemic coagulopathy which was not going to clear by itself and any herpetologist worth his salt would know that.

carly fiorina loses her shit when called out by reporter

I wonder how many of those 30,000 were women?
Also I find it funny that she criticizes Camerota for mentioning the abortion scandal when we all know that she will talk about it until our ears bleed if she thinks that will get her into the White House, and considering her base, yes she will.

RT-putin on isreal-iran and relations with america

coolhund says...

I never said to rely on Putin or RT solely. I just tried to explain that ignoring him and RT because of stupid reasons like that is not very wise, because the west isnt much better. You have to see all the sides to make a proper judgement.

A, B and C are irrelevant. Ownership is irrelevant because the western media is also "owned" by people with an agenda. But even between those different people there is a common agenda. You can see that in Germanys media right now very well. They are outright lying collectively to the people just to stay politically correct.

Reputation also is irrelevant because objectivity > reputation.

Funding is also irrelevant, as you said yourself. You can see it very well that it doesnt change much where they get their money from. The agenda matters. Also very well observable lately.

Putin first and foremost is a counterweight. He makes the western mistakes more obvious. He also has very good points when defending his own countries actions. Even the homosexual ones, if you ever listened to him on that topic. Yes, as a political leader he is of course manipulating, but he makes much more sense, actually uses facts and doesnt nearly lie as much as any politician I have ever seen.
You of course need to have and acknowledge those facts to realize that. But you made it clear that you arent. Comparing Russias imperialism with Americas shows just how much. Its pretty much clear the USA was involved in that coup detat once again. Now imagine how the USA would have reacted if Russia did that in Canada or Mexico. Or imagine how the USA would react to being completely surrounded by Russian military bases, having decades of history of destabilizing and overthrowing countries and whole regions, breaking and ignoring international law, even threatening the country where the international court sits to never dare to bring one of their before their court and then Russia claiming that the USA is the aggressor.

Actually Russia has long been very passive about the eastern expansion of NATO and they forgave that bleeding out of Russia towards the west in the 90s. Something like that happening at their doorstep actually justifies much MUCH harsher reactions, but they didnt use them. Instead they actually took another (hypocritical) slap in the face rather passively and silently with those sanctions.

Syria... I am surprised you even bring that up, because thats just stupid to use that for your argument. Syria has been a long ally of Russia and they asked for help after the US and NATO started bombing their infrastructure instead of ISIS. The war in Syria is even more obviously an externally funded war, not a civil war, while in the Ukraine you can actually see parts of a civil war, it started like that, because those people didnt want the new government. Also again mostly due to America and their support of other totalitarian regimes in that region.

1 - Well let me deconstruct that a bit. Presumably you rely on news, how can you rely on any of it to be trustworthy? Several ways obviously, I would say the main are (A) Ownership, (B) Reputation and (C) Funding.

A - Ownership - RT (and it's web of shadowy news sites pretending to be local) are owned by the Kremlin or clearly Kremlin linked oligarchs. Their incentives should be clear, promote the Putin narrative. When all independent TV news has been shuttered within Russia or taken over, you would expect these outfits to be heavily biased towards propaganda. I would similarly have to be suspect of outfits like Voice of America (US government funded). Corporate news sources have their own incentives. I happen to like the Economist but I'm mindful of its ownership involving the Rothschild family and Eric Schmidt (Google) being on the board for example. After all, every news outfit is owned by someone.

B - Reputation - This is the main one to me. You can say what you will about Western media, but there is a cultural expectation among its people and its reporters of the freedom to report newsworthy stories. There are obviously biases and those form part of the news source's reputation. We know TV news tend to be short on fact and sensationalist. Equally, we know Fox News to be right wing. We inevitably find these things out because no matter how much a news owner might want to control its message, freedom of speech sees the reputation leak out. We have reports (regarding Fox for example) that memos go out to use specific language like "Climategate" or we have controversies such as when photos of NYT reporters were photoshopped with yellow teeth.

C - Funding - Advertising vs Subscription, but that's not really relevant here.

My main point is, relying on Putin directly or any of his web of 'news' to get information about Russia or America is particularly silly. We know their ownership, reputation and thereby incentives. Or any state backed news. For corporate news, ultimately any bias from ownership, reputation or say government influence will leak out.

2 - I don't see him as any more politically effective or intelligent than necessarily any other major leader. If I've expressed anything here it should be that what Putin says is just as calculated and manipulative as any politician. Just because it has a veneer of 'speaking truth to power' or recounts some truths does not mean it is true in its entirety. Bluster and waging wars is politically popular in Russia, he is simply playing to a different audience. I would say any notion that he is more 'objective' is farcical. After all the kind of imperialism that he decries of America is the exact kind he's engaged in in Ukraine and now Syria!

Teen arrested by 9 cops for jaywalking

Esoog says...

No, he did not get arrested for jaywalking. No, he wasn't slammed to the ground for no reason at all. That description couldn't be more slanted, and is complete BULLSHIT.

The 16 year old didn't comply when asked to do something. He cussed at the cop and told him “Fuck You, I’m not stopping for you,” and continued to struggle and fight.

If he had done what he was supposed to (not walk in the bus lane, and not argue and fight with the cops) then he wouldn't be in that situation.

He's an insubordinate asshole, and that woman needs to STFU and let them do their job. Enough of the slanted bleeding heart bullshit.

Oh my god

Trancecoach says...

Reminds me of the time that I observed an old woman walking home from the grocery store, who tripped and fell on her face as I drove by. Blood streamed from her face as I immediately pulled over to the side of the road and ran to her aid. I shouted at the bystanders to go get some towels to stem the bleeding as I checked to see if she was okay and called for help on my (at the time, fairly rare) cellular phone.

She asked me not to call the police, but to call her son-in-law, instead. She gave me the number and he came in about 10 minutes, as I sat by her side, helped to calm her jittery nerves and ensure that she was alright.

Three years later, she called me at random to thank me for my kindness. It was the least I could do and was surprising that so few people would have done likewise.

You remind me of the time my grandmother, at 91 years old, was walking her small dog on Memorial Drive in Houston (MAJOR street, up to hundreds of cars per minute). She tripped on a crack in the sidewalk and fell hard on her face, smashing it badly and knocking out some teeth. She ended up crawling well over 2 blocks on hands and knees in full view of the street (no bushes or trees obstructing the view), bleeding profusely down her face, and not a single car stopped to help. That was over 6 years ago, and it still boils my blood that so many people are so uncaring/unhelpful, and it makes me think these are likely the same people that beg for help at the slightest discomfort in their own lives.

OK, I had to re-watch because of your stance here, because I didn't hear anyone laughing....and I'm glad to say I think you're wrong this time.
No one (that I could hear) laughed, and if you crank it up at 10-11 seconds you CAN hear someone ask "are you alright?". Also, he obviously didn't need help, he got up quickly and seemed uninjured (beyond his pride). Had he lay there bleeding in his Slurpee, I would be with you, though.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen all too often (see above post), just not this time, as I see it.
Also, thinking about it, I'm guessing this is totally staged, otherwise why is it being filmed to start with?

Seriously, everyone's just going to stand there and watch and ignore?

That's one thing that really bothers me, standing by watching someone potentially get hurt and offering not even so much as a "Hey, you alright?" and even going so far as to laugh at them instead.

For shame.

Not at all joking.

If it was staged, then I rescind my remarks about this particular video, but the sentiment in general still stands.

I find it atrocious when people do little more than stand around laughing at someone who is in legitimate need of assistance or at least compassion from their fellow human beings.

I think that is probably lacking more in America (where so many people are so arrogant, selfish, self-centered, and entertained by and numb to the suffering of others) than many or most other first-world civilizations.
