Classic Karmann Ghia Commercial

lurgee says...

Truth!

When I was born back in '65, my father had a two toned Karmann Ghia. Black with a white roof. He said I always called it "Daddy's race car". He would always chuckle after telling me that but back then and I had no clue why. It broke my heart the day he sold it. We were a family of five then and 4 more were yet to come. He bought a new '67 Bus to haul the family and a used Beetle for him to go to his job.

About ten years ago I went to a Bug Out with a friend who had a '72 Beetle. We met up with a group of air cooled VW's known as the Slow Riders. One of them had a red 70's Ghia. I could not stop taking pictures of it. It is definitely one sexy German car.

Good to hear that you hooked up the Ghia with some extra horses.

Woah, the girl in the BMW 1800 @ 0:26 was definatly not ok after that. And what about that Beetle convertible @ 2:26? Somebody please whop that driver's ass.

Also, it's quite amazing to see how stable the 914 was, compared to the 911s and that Capri(?) @ 3:14.

I like the new Beetle. They've done enough changes to still be recognised as a Beetle but removed the necessity of not having a Y chromosome to be seen in it

I'd still get the Golf or Jetta, however

How to Peel a Potato with Your Bare Hands

grinter says...

All these years I've thought that when they punish someone by having them peel raw potatoes in the Beetle Bailey comic strips that it was just a mean thing to make someone do. I had no idea that anyone would actually try to peel a raw potato.

Coment from the original YouTube poster:
"Actually that tree probably took closer to a thousand years to grow! It has probably been dying for a hundred years. Did you know that it takes around 80 years for a fungus to grow on the outside of white wood softwoods (balsam, hemlock, etc...) once the tree has been infected? Maybe you should google bark beetle kill photos and see what we are trying to prevent. Whole mountain ranges of forests dead within a few years far as the eye can see"

Please please please forgive me, but if Jillette has never smoked pot or drank iIN HIS LIFE... I just can't trust that constitution. I don't know what to say, do I think less of him? Do I distrust his motivations? Seems to me that any human who has never jumped off the wagon just to see what happens next can't relate to me, or pretty much most of the free thinkers I do relate to.

I hear ya.
I also don't know how to relate to that.
Not even a sip of wine? Did he always feel superior? Or, just his own fear?

That is such a weird stance to take. What is it about drugs and alcohol that is so integral to your experience that you don't know how to relate to a person that's never tried it? I drink, but there's nothing magical about alcohol. I'd be the exact same person if I'd never had any.

Do you feel the same way about other people that have never tried other experiences? Have never eaten beetles or fermented fish or rotten soybeans or killed a man or surfed on the north shore or climbed a mountain?

You've never climbed a Russian bridge and stood on the rails? Did you always feel superior?
