The Infinadeck Omnidirectional Treadmill - Smarter Every Day

MilkmanDan says...

Very cool.

I sure would have thought that it would be a platform with hundreds of partially inset mouse/trackballs, rather than treadmills on axes 90 degrees apart. I mean ... sure, any 2D vector can be split into a sum of two orthogonal components. But with redundant inset trackballs you could get stuff like spot pivots that are much finer scale than the scale of the 2-3 inch wide secondary axis treads...

On the other hand, these guys actually have a working prototype, so they clearly thought things through and decided that the orthogonal treadmill solution was better. Rubber meats road trumps off-the-cuff theoretical any day!

I believe Lynx is what you call Axe body spray.

i.e. I don't blame her for trying to get rid of it, and she might be subtly trying to get rid of him too.

ORVILLE S1E3: The Crew Preps For A Wild Wild West Showdown

Firefly had little humor to me. I am still mad at Fox for messing it up! I wonder if Orville will have be axed by them too.

Ha...even Firefly was funnier to me.

He used an excavator and a bulldozer. Real men use their broken backs and a pick axe. ;-)
30 mil isn't 30 millimeters...his liner isn't over an inch thick...he wishes. I think mine is 45 mil. It's thick rubber.
Cool stuff. He has a different idea of what a pond is and what it's for than I do, but to each his own. He made a great place for the family...but they better learn pond safety...you could lose the whole family in that deep end and never see them.

Ian Welsh reminds us of a quote by Mark Twain:

There were two ‘Reigns of Terror’, if we could but remember and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passions, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon a thousand persons, the other upon a hundred million; but our shudders are all for the horrors of the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty and heartbreak? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief terror that we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror – that unspeakable bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

Revenge of the Tree Stump

should have used lots of things, including a brain. That stump isn't going any where with a root system like that. Use a chainsaw and axe to pulverize the stump into the ground or dig around it to cut off the roots.

An Intriguing New Gun Safety System

JustSaying says...

Or someone kidnaps your daughter and thanks to your preparedness and special set of skills you realize you're actually Liam Neeson.
This whole guns-for-safety-schtick has been debated online a thousand times. You know what protects you from crime? Tackling the very real social issues like poverty and racism that cause crime.
You have so many guns and yet your crime rate is so shitty. Mass shootings are routine in america. Where are all the good guys with guns to stop the bad guys when you need them?
It's not working. It simply isn't, crunch numbers all you want. Just look at Canada. They have guns. Yet, they seem to live so much safer lives. Is Mexico such a dangerous place because they don't have enough guns? They got the good Heckler&Koch rifles, you know.
You want to fight fights that I say should be avoided in the first place. Fix your social issues and less people will have reasons to try breaking into your home.
Same with the terrorist. Don't just bomb them, disable their ideological rethoric, disable their methods of recruiting.
We have islamic terrorists here in germany. They either try to build bombs (requires actual know-how) or they attack with axes and knives. Something must be working in our favor here. Same can't be said for the citizens of Paris or nightclub visitors in Orlando. They got shot.
The american paranoia is a reaction to an action that can be made far more unlikely to happen. Once you are ready to tackle the issues.
You can bring a fire extinguisher every time you go to the gas station in case a fire breaks out or you can just stop smoking around the gas station.

But sure. Paranoia. Zombies. Let's go there.

I stand by my overly pedantic comment and note I made it after upvoting.

I looked on YouTube, and most of the comments seem to be between people like me and people calling them ghey faggits. At least people who claim if a large group start saying something incorrectly, that means it's now correct.

It's not like saying axe instead of ask, where it's a pronunciation variance, but means the same.

It's like the statements:

1)In my accident the other guy was charged with driving with undue care and attention.

2)In my accident the other guy was charged with driving without due care and attention.

The first is what a lot of people say, but it still isn't correct because it means the exact opposite of the second, correct statement. Driving with undue care means you are giving the driving care and attention to which it is not due. You are being "too careful". Why would you be charged with being too careful?
