ARRESTED FOR ANTI-OBAMA POSTS

chingalera says...

Your perfect-world news-report fantasy works fine in theory, does it?..'peer reviewed' till the cattle are housed in mandatory temporary-to-permanent dirt-floor & barbed-wire accommodations CE??....Maybe your own verbal ticks will develop into a similar, "well, very specifically" when you are NOT being arrested lawfully and tossed into an asylum where a company doctor can render you insane, deprogram you, and use you as an 'example' of what one can or can't say on Facebook?

Forest-for-the-trees lackeys are a dime-a-dozen at a peer-reviewed fantasy camp on the outskirts of (insert city or town near you in the future you've helped to create).

You are already on planet police-state, keep up the fine work and pour-through those tomes of toilet paper and perhaps hone your own 'axe' (a fucking metaphor for reason or wisdom, the kind that cuts both ways....HELLO?!)

How bout an interview?

ChaosEngine said:

Sorry, but regardless of whether this story turns out to be accurate or not, @Yogi's stance is completely valid.

One of the major problems in the world now is people who believe things without questioning them. News reports should have to provide evidence, cite sources, etc. If you make a scientific claim in an advertisement, I want to see a peer reviewed study that backs it up.

ARRESTED FOR ANTI-OBAMA POSTS

ARRESTED FOR ANTI-OBAMA POSTS

Vygorous says...

Just to contribute a little bit (I am neither here nor there). Here is something on the piece outside of Russian Times, not much more credible, however has some quotes from the police:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/21/brandon-j-raub-marine-detained_n_1817484.html EDIT: Guess I cant post links on this site heh, Huffingtonpost is the site, guys name is Brandon J. Raub [admin edit: url restored]

Article Snippets:

•"In one message earlier this month according to authorities, Raub wrote: "Sharpen my axe; I'm here to sever heads.""

•"Police – acting under a state law that allows emergency, temporary psychiatric commitments upon the recommendation of a mental health professional"

•"One of his Facebook posts, ... pictured the gaping hole in the Pentagon and asked "where's the plane?""

•"Dee Rybiski, an FBI spokeswoman in Richmond, said there was no Facebook snooping by her agency. "We received quite a few complaints about what were perceived as threatening posts," she said. "Given the circumstances with the things that have gone on in the country with some of these mass shootings, it would be horrible for law enforcement not to pay attention to complaints.""

•"Authorities say it wasn't an arrest because Raub doesn't face criminal charges."

•"Col. Thierry Dupuis, the county police chief, said Raub was taken into custody upon the recommendation of mental health crisis intervention workers. He said the action was taken under the state's emergency custody statute, which allows a magistrate to order the civil detention and psychiatric evaluation of a person who is considered potentially dangerous.
He said Raub was handcuffed because he resisted officers' attempts to take him into custody."

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: FIFA and the World Cup

radx says...

It's not just FIFA itself who are exempt from taxes. It's also everyone associated with them, including construction, merchandising, and sponsoring, from the very second the World Cup was "awarded" to Brazil until they finally fuck off again.

No worries though. FIFA employed a very renowned expert as their chief ethics investigator, none other than Michael Garcia, who did such a crackerjack job when Lehman went belly-up.

And while we're at it, Jerome Valcke, the arrogant wanker at 5:15, is quite a piece of work himself. During his tenure as FIFA's marketing director, he ran a racket with VISA and Mastercard resulting in a penalty to the tune of $90m and was subsequently axed, only to be rehired as general fucking secretary.

Jon Stewart epic Sean Hannity take-down. Truth recovered.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Loved it. I wonder if Hannity will ever get axed? Jon Stewart did get that bowtie wearing Crossfire Schmuck dismissed IIRC.

How to wield a longsword

Chairman_woo says...

I agree. Normal/medium sized two handers seem to pretty much all be designed to allow you greater control rather than to add power (an axe or mace is always going to be better for that).

Wieldyness is much more important for them than power. As Lindy himself mentions in another vid swords like the Katana and longsword are backups and personal protection weapons not primary weapons of war. Convenient to carry around, and handy for parrying blows & grappling but second fiddle to almost any dedicated battlefield weapon (Spears, Naginata, maces etc.).

The most notable exception that springs to mind is the Roman Gladius, but it could be described as a glorified short spear with bonus cutting abilities rather than what most people think of as a sword. Rapiers and scimitars could also be thought of as more like spears and axes respectively in this sense.

And then there's the huge specialised warswords like claymores and Zweihanders but as lindy suggests in yet another vid they are a specialised tool for berserker charges and maybe advancing through a pikewall. Certainly not something you'd want to have a duel with or carry around at your waist.

Longswords and Katanas are like modern pistols. Good side-arms, but almost never a primary weapon of war. (Hollywood fails again)

Also.....Longsword totally > Katana. A well made longsword can hold just as sharp an edge as a Katana, has quillons to hook and lever an opponent and a straight focused point that can puncture steel plate. Katanas can maybe dismember someone easier, but that's about it.(all IMHO obviously)

I'm far from an expert, but I've spent a lot of time practicing with a bokken (wooden training sword) and the technique he shows here (control/pivot with the right hand, cut with the left) is pretty much identical to a Japanese sword cut (at least as practiced in Aikido and Iaido).

Of course, we all know that Katanas are crap the BEST SOWARD EVAAR!

What happens if you reverse sex roles in advertising?

EvilDeathBee says...

I upvoted for the hilarious fake ads, not for the stupid message at the end.

If women responded to men as men responded to women in the same undressed way, they would use more almost naked men in advertising (if they're trying to sell something other than tampons, yoghurt or cleaning supplies to women). But an attractive man in a well tailored suit is eye candy for women like an attractive woman in lingerie is eye candy for men.

EDIT: I don't mean there's no sexism in advertising. Those stupid Axe/Lynx ads are exactly that, but just an attractive half naked lady, I don't think is

Gibson guitars now tune themselves robotically

chingalera says...

Told Baristan to check out a guitar I fell in love with the second I picked it up and played it- Tom Anderson Guitarworks-Small-batch luthier, he cut his teeth on his process with Gibson and Fender I believe, incredible axe, but you wait and pay for it.
http://www.andersonguitars.com/

Lifetime instrument though, really really want one eventually. That and an SG-(with a triple-stack of 57' Classic Plus Humbuckers)

Similar to this one...even has a tremolo
http://www.zzounds.com/item--GIBSGDX
Hmm, kinna dig the lime as well, and that Bigsby Tremolo adds a retro feel to it....Really like the look of that Bigsby now....

FUCK man, why did you guys get me all wanting guitars I gotta save-up big bucks for??

Gibson guitars now tune themselves robotically

chingalera says...

I do also think it's effing awesome-There's after-market fits for other guitars beside a Gibson, unless you just want a Les Paul or SG (personally, love the action and tone and fretboard on a classic SG because it's wide and smooth all the way up the neck, and because Zappa played hardly anything else).

If you play a lot though and on an axe you know, and I tend to tune a lot between hammerins', you get really fast at getting the thing back in tune becasue you sense the one or two strings that need attention and are always tuning them back between bending the hell out of em.

I DO dig these for the variety of tunings over the perfect pitchitude aspect of it, especially for a go-to rock guitar. It's got like what, five standard tunings plugged-in??

What kind of guitar is it? The problem may lie in a cheap-as-hell, made in (insert Asian country here) by shitty manufacturers using crap-ass parts for the machine head.
I would hasten to guess that the floater you have is on a sub-standard axe??

I curse my guitar every time I try to tune it.

Hypnotizing a chicken

MilkmanDan says...

I grew up on a farm, and my dad used to work hard to lodge a rooster's head between two railroad spikes so that he could extend the neck and dispatch the rooster with a quick axe/hatchet to the neck. The rooster knows something is up, so it is scared and looking for any possible escape, and it takes a lot of work to get/hold them in position. Then an older fella visited the house one time and showed us this technique.

Yep, it works so well that you can just draw the line, lay the rooster down and "hypnotize" it, walk away and come back with your axe ... and it'll just wait right there patiently until the thwock.

Of course, then it'll still get up and run around headless; but I am told that is more of a muscles unwinding issue than any result of headless consciousness.

Piers Morgan ~ Ted Nugent Interview

CreamK says...

So in Nugents mind, you don't need to be polite unless all people has guns? "Armed society is polite society" not to mention "scared out of their mind society". The more i hear gun nuts defending their right, it sounds more and more "cause i want to" rather than "we need to". I live in a country that was the last hunter gatherers in europe, we got longer hunting tradition than USA has been a country. There's strict gun control, every gun is registered and no one can sell them to a person who hasn't been licensed. That means basic training, belonging to a hunting club, clean(ish) record, meaning no violent crimes. And no on has complained about it.. Why? cause it simply works. Guns are where they should be, in sporting and hunting. The last priority is home protection. Getting an illegal, proper working gun is expensive as hell. Sawed off shotgun can go for a thousand, not 50 bucks. The result? Very few crimes are committed with a gun, very very few resulting in actual gunfire. It bloody well works.

How are violent crimes committed and what is used against home invasion? Bats, axes and knifes. At least the struggle become fairer and you seriously have to mean it when you can't kill someone 10m away. You have to be hands on, in their getting bloody, mixing your DNA all over the place.. See where i'm going with this? With a gun, you can kill someone in safety and have less chances of getting caught. Every act of violent crime leaves two sets of evidence, victim and perpetrator can be both identified later. With a gun you got a victim and a bullet from unknown, unregistered gun that is disposed soon after since it's freaking easy and cheap to just buy a new one..

The whole idea of not supporting background check and leaving guns in the wild is just moronic and has nothing to do with government knowing who has guns and abusing that power. It has all to do with "cause i want to have one".

Frog Vs Poisonous Newt

newtboy says...

Weird, why didn't this show up when I searched before I posted the 'dupe'? I did look, searched for "Newt" and only Gingrich showed up.
Enjoy the votes, oddly I had 14 last I looked, I'm guessing 'someone' with an axe to grind (and I'm thinking multiple accounts) downvoted before killing the 'dupe'.
