Australians Try Outback Steakhouse For The First Time

lucky760 says...

Yeah, duhhh, of course it's not going to be authentically Australian. Like the tasters said, their shrimps would be tiny and eaten plain with tomato sauce.

There's very little foreign authenticity in American restaurants, and if there is an authentic representation of another country's restaurant, it's more than likely targeted at immigrants who need that authenticity because Americans don't like Vegemite.

Not only chains, but even locally-owned restaurants change their recipes to appeal to as many Americans as possible. Everything else is just marketing.

In any case, I like these videos. Just would've been better if it wasn't all completely one-sided with no surprises. Can't wait to see Panda Express and Taco Bell next.

Theramintrees - seeing things

shinyblurry says...

If God doesn't give you any revelation of His existence then the scripture is broken and you would have an excuse when you stand before Him. I would be the first to say that this is unfair. However, we're all human beings and I know that people willfully reject God. Not only from my own personal experience, but the bible itself is littered with accounts of people who know better and fall into rebellion against God.

God has made the truth of these things so clear to me, and I believe He is faithful to do the same for you. If God sent Jesus to die on the cross for you and me, He is faithful to let us how we should respond to that.

I think it's clear that an infinite being suffering an infinite punishment is infinitely worse than a finite being suffering an infinite punishment. The finite being has a finite experience, eternally or not. Adding up everyone who ever lived, it is still only a finite experience of suffering, whereas the infinite being has an infinite experience of suffering. Qualitatively, an eternity of suffering of a number of finite beings does not equal even a moment of suffering of an infinite being. Whether you think that is debatable or or not, God the Father considered the sacrifice greater than the punishment, and that is what counts.

Jesus was doing what His Father wanted Him to do, which was to reconcile the human race to Himself, who are alienated from God and spiritually dead because of sin. As far as whether the sayings of Jesus are authentic, we have the manuscripts to prove that they were not made up over a period of centuries or even decades. We have around twenty five thousand manuscripts of the NT alone, which is about 24 thousand more manuscripts than any other ancient text. We have manuscript evidence even going back to the first century, and using all of the manuscripts there is a science called textual criticism that can reconstruct what was in the original manuscripts from that pool of evidence. The idea that the bible is patched together from centuries of retranslations and additions is demonstratably false.

Even if we didn't have any manuscripts, from the writings of the early church fathers alone we could reconstruct the entire bible except for 7 verses in the first 250 years. Even before that, we have the prophetic writings from the Old Testament which show that Jesus did exactly what He was prophesied to do. He did not speak anything different than what had been written thousands of years in advance. If you understand the bible as you a whole, you will see it is one story and it is all saying the same thing. The fact of its internal consistency, considering it was authored by 40 people over a period of 3000 years is another proof of its authenticity.

There are many reasons to believe Jesus is the Christ, but the biggest one is Gods personal revelation, which He is faithful to give to you. If you want to know whether Jesus is the Messiah, simply pray and ask. If He isn't, you've wasted a couple of minutes. If He is, you are avoiding an eternal consequence. God bless!

Someone stole naked pictures of me. This is what I did about

ChaosEngine says...

Not actually true. 2 factor authentication has been available on many services for years. It's not impenetrable, true, but it's a damn sight harder to get around.

And again, the message shouldn't be "don't take the photo", it should be "don't steal someone else's photos", and "don't look at other peoples stolen photos". The only person not to blame her is the girl in the photo.

Flirting MasterClass with Hottest Actresses Volume 1

Love and miss this guy. The only thing that really ever irked me about him was how legitimately he likes to break the mold, but he had the same formula for every guest: man or woman, compliment them on how they look. It always seemed too pedestrian for someone who otherwise seemed legitimately authentic.

Although this woman was authentically traumatized by the experience of living outside her box, I kind of feel sorry for her. Sorry she is so close minded to living and learning. Sorry she has been brainwashed to the extent that she can't function beyond her religious upbringing. and I feel bad for all those who have to endure her and her beliefs. Her convictions will go on to traumatize her children, and her children's children, and so many more generations to come.

Her physiologic internal belief system will control her until the day she dies, and she will never see any of it from within her bubble. Such a waste of human potential. She obviously has potential for strong convictions, and deep emotion that, I'm sure, could have been put to use in more productive ways in her life.

Your apparent emotion about this amuses me greatly. Thanks for that.

My previous comment means that I don't take this forum (or any forum in which its users interact under assumed names or "handles") to be of any serious importance, such that my comments need not come affixed with references or citations.

Edit: Here's a recent topical article which posits that originality doesn't actually exist, only authenticity.

WTF does that mean? Unless you're saying your name is Jeffrey Tucker, I fail to see your point.

Are you Jeffrey Tucker? Did you write those words? Or are you just some random jerkoff who got caught ripping off Jeffrey Tucker's article after trying to pass it off as if you wrote it?

Star Wars The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

artician says...

Yeah, this is the authentic deal. Some of those shots look downright amateurish, so I'm guessing they're just pre-postproduction.

I can go either way. I've always wanted to see a new Star Wars with the original cast, so this is a dream come true there. Otherwise Abrams is going to create his own unique beast. It's exactly what the franchise needs but could also take it too far from the core. I was stoked to not hear the Williams theme music plastered all over the trailer, which is a huge first step in separating it from prior films.

Via Liberty.me: The status of the police is bound up with the perception of the value of the entire public sector. The police are the “thin blue line,” long perceived as the most essential and irreplaceable function of the state. Now that this perception is under pressure from public opinion over what happened (and is happening) in Ferguson (and many many other places around the country), a shift in intellectual opinion that's been developing for decades is gaining traction.

What’s at stake here if not the very foundation of public order as we know it? If government can’t do this right -- if the police are accomplishing the very opposite of what they claim to accomplish, namely, to "protect and serve" -- if they are, in fact, undermining the public's security rather than providing for it, (and this is widely understood to be the case, time and time again), then we have the making of not only an ideological revolution, but an authentic turning-point in the history of politics.

Security is not the most essential function of the state; it is the most dangerous one, and the very one that we should never concede lest we lose our freedom altogether. The "night watchman" is the biggest threat we face because it is he who holds the gun and he who pulls the trigger should we ever decide to escape from their "protections" and provide for ourselves.

German Language Compared to other Languages

ulysses1904 says...

The "spanish" guy sounds like an idiot when he pronounces it "maripotha". He is affecting a Spain accent, which makes no sense in this case because only the letter "z" and the letters "ci" and "ce" are pronounced with a SLIGHT "th" sound in some areas of Spain.

I don't want to go off on a Dennis Miller rant here but that always bugs the shit out of me. It's said quite often that people from Spain speak with a lisp, because some king back in some century had a lisp, so everyone was ordered to speak the same way. Sounds interesting, right? Sounds like some stupid myth to me. If it was a lisp then the letter "s" would be pronounced like "th".

While I'm on the subject nothing irritates me more than native English speakers who study Spanish but then speak it in their flat American or British accent. They make no effort to emulate the specific Spanish vowel and consonant sounds, it sounds moronic. But they make sure to throw in the "lisp", as if that's all it takes to sound authentic. Only they can't even manage that, they end up sounding like Daffy Duck. Usually it's college kids studying for their Bachelor's in Posing that do this crap, with a minor in Hipster Studies.

I have studied Spanish for years and I admit it takes effort to change your whole vocal apparatus to have a conversation in Spanish and maintain the accent. But otherwise why spend all that time learning a language only to speak it with your McAccent.

Not sure about how I feel about this newfangled form of advertising.

They're trying to hijack the fact that authentic joy and excitement caught on tape can become popular on Youtube and make millions a little happier for watching it. Instead of just making you happy, however, their goal is to just sell you Jack Links beef jerky.

Don't fall for this and let the greedy corporate bastards corrupt another beautiful form of human expression; punish them by buying a different brand of beef jerky next time you go to the grocery store and watch these videos instead:

Foreign Foods You’re Eating Wrong

I take particular issue with the notion of an 'authentic' taco. There's too much texmex and otherwise 'americanized' latino cuisine in the US to justify the imposition of traditional mexican cooking styles upon the US's culinary patterns.

FALSE! There were some 16bit in there from Street Fighter II and Streets of Rage.

However, Neo getting a star from punching the asian dude in the face was a nice tough of authenticity.

Assassin's Creed Unity: Rob Zombie's French Revolution

RedSky says...

Yeah, but there's using history as a basis for say, an alternate history or dystopia (a la Wolfenstein), and there's sensationalizing actual history while retaining a veneer of authenticity.

Not a big fan of the latter, I think you inevitably end up with a lot of people believing it to be accurate, as I think happens a lot with the AC series.
