A Tribute to Monty Python from South Park

BSR says...

I learned about Monty Python from my high school print shop teacher in my freshman year. We would listen to 'Monty Python's Previous Record' while sorting out all the lead type in the California job case while laughing our butts off. Good times.

Fun Fact:

To remember which letters go into the correct slots in the type case, we learned short phrases. Basically 3 rows held the basic alphabet and the 3 phrases were:

Be Careful Driving Elephants Into Small Foreign Garages - BCDEISFG
Let Money Not Hinder Our Young Peoples Workings - LMNHOYPW
Vern Underwood Took (3-em spaces) And Ran - VUT(3-em spaces)AR

This is good to know in the event that you get asked on a radio quiz show.

You're welcome.

Salvatore Ganacci - Horse

Bodycam shows the fatal shooting of Danquirs Franklin

Mordhaus says...

Massive breach of procedure. We were taught in concealed carry school that the only person that should touch our concealed weapon in a police situation is the police. You keep your hands visible and NEVER touch the gun, even if the cops tell you to.

The ones that fired should be kicked off the force and banned from law enforcement. They should also get charged for his death and go to jail. This is just as bad as the cop that shot the drunk guy because they had him knee walking towards them and his pants were falling down. Guy reached to pull up his pants and got AR-15'ed to death.

In Australia lots of things can kill you ...but not AR15s

newtboy jokingly says...

They don't need AR-15s.
If Bruce or Sheila want to commit a massacre, they can just leave a box outside for a while and bring whatever deadly critters crawl into it to their victims. Why waste effort on bullets and such when every fucking thing in your country is deadly?!

Bill Maher - Colion Noir: Gun Nuts

ChaosEngine says...

I'm unsure as to what Noir is arguing against.

He makes valid points about people in poorer neighbourhoods being able to defend themselves. I mean, to me, that's a damning indictment of the failure of civil society in the US, but let's ignore that for the moment.

Almost no one is suggesting banning guns, and there are very few countries with an outright ban on firearms. But there are plenty of places with simple, sensible gun laws that have been proven to work... none of which would have any of the negative impacts Noir is talking about.

It's like arguing against speed limits by claiming people need to drive to work.

Also, the "prevent a tyrannical government" argument? Jesus, that was obsolete 100 years ago. 50 years ago, it was laughable and to suggest that any kind of armed citizen uprising could make any kind of dent in any modern military, much less the worlds biggest, is bordering on insanity.

An AR-15 isn't going to do jack shit against a tank, and you're not even going to see a predator drone coming.

But upvote and kudos to him for discussing this is in a rational manner.

Not really, what I was taught is that it has a history of being successfully invaded by empires that often bankrupt themselves in the effort. We've done a half decent job of following suit.

Not really again to your second point. I'm pointing out that the argument that an AR-15 somehow safeguards you from tyranny is nonsense, and you would need equivalent military weapons, training, and numbers to stand a chance against your own military....an absolute impossibility in America, and unlikely anywhere except third world countries with barely a military. I'm not, however, advocating allowing that level of weaponry into private hands.

Afghanistan has a pretty damn good track record of fighting off larger military invaders while being equipped with lower tech firepower.

It almost sounds like you are arguing for allowing civilians to have access to equivalent military weaponry so we can stand a chance if our government goes rogue.

bcglorf says...

I'm not totally sold on the AR-15 to save the country line of reasoning either, but it's not entirely without merit.

flowers are beat by knives are beat by guns are beat by tanks are beat by airpower

Sure a population armed with AR-15s isn't going to prevent a guy like Bashar Al Assad who's willing to use helicopters to drop chemical weapons on you. At the same time, try resisting or overthrowing a guy like that WITHOUT AR-15s...

newtboy said:

You think they wouldn't? Tell that to the Syrians.

Plenty of people don't just say, but firmly believe their rifle protects them from a tyrannical government...David Koresh was one. They lined up tanks for him.

Rather silly statement about a scenario that's happened repeatedly.
