Where are the aliens? KurzGesagt

ChaosEngine says...

I say things like that because they are objectively true. The very concept of omnipotence and omniscience violate all kinds of physical laws. They are paradoxes; the "immovable force meeting the immovable object", but all our experience and learning tells us the universe does not work like that. Again, we might be wrong, but the more we learn, the less likely it becomes that we've missed something so vast.

Human history is full of misery, suffering and cruelty to everything around us. One of the few bright points is our quest for knowledge, and you willfully reject that to cling to a stone age belief system that has been demonstrably proven false (geocentricity, for example) again and again.

Factually, it's incorrect.
Morally, it's bankrupt and consistently on the wrong side of history.

One day you might wake up and realise (to paraphrase the much missed Douglas Adams) that "the garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it".

Until then, you are welcome to indulge in your fantasies, but if you insist on injecting your irrationality into debates like this, expect disagreement.

We've been at this for years. You don't absolutely deny God exists because you can't, yet you say things like God existing would contradict everything we know about the Universe. For all intents and purposes, you deny God exists and you have spent a lot of time and energy arguing from that position.

I don't really want to argue about any of this with you. I pray for your soul and I hope God saves you before you pass from this life, but that and how you respond to what God reveals to you is out of my hands.

Such a tremendous waste of young lives.

And I can't help but wonder, no Willie McBride,
Do all those who lie here know why they died?
Did you really believe them when they told you "The Cause?"
Did you really believe that this war would end wars?
Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
The killing, the dying, it was all done in vain,
For Willie McBride, it all happened again,
And again, and again, and again, and again.

I don't understand the energy levels here. One moment, you can barely stand up, and it's hard to move your arms, and in the next instant your executing a perfect flying roundhouse kick. ...then you want to sleep again. Then you're tossing a guy through the air like a tin can... aaaand then you're so lethargic you fall over. Again and again...

Surfing - Here's what it feels like to get caught inside.

ChaosEngine says...

Of all the activities I've tried, surfing is the one that just breaks me. I suck at it so much. I would love to be able to surf well, but I don't have the time to dedicate to it.

For me, the worst part of that is not the washing machine. Being mashed and held down is unpleasant, but I'm comfortable enough underwater that it doesn't really bother me.

But it's just so disheartening.

You expend all this energy paddling, and then you get thrown back again and again, and just when you think there's a gap... boom... rogue wave knocks you back again!

Then you finally get out the back and two things will happen:
first the sweetest wave ever comes through just as you're catching your breath and you either skip it from exhaustion or fail to catch it

and then.... nothing for ages. The epic swell that was pounding the crap out of you? Nowhere to be seen and the ocean is flat as.

damn ocean hates me

Andrew Dice Clay's routine - Banned from cable TV for life

Chaucer says...

It was the networks fault on this. They originally said he had more time. They then kept cutting his time down again and again until he just had a small segment. So he was pretty pissed by time he went out there.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

gorillaman says...

Well I don't entirely hate it, which is my usual reaction to change.

There's very little wasted space. It's much less cluttered and pretty intuitive; I thought I'd stumbled onto the mobile site by accident when I first saw it.

Not sure about the suggested videos - looks like you're just going to keep seeing the same ones from popular channels again and again. There's less space for the comments section which is surely bad. The various big buttons for facebook, twitter, etc. are garbage but I'll just adblock them. You can't see a video's channels and tags on its page or who's voted for it.

Putting a feed from the recent comments and the lounge in the discuss tab is big nifty. The minimised footer is a colossal improvement.

How To Sound Smart By Giving a TED Talk About Nothing

lucky760 says...

I'm going to write a comment about the video I just watched. It's going to attempt to be witty and perhaps absurd that includes a joke with a punchline intended to be a misdirect. I'll consider something that gets my point across, but is generally neutral and not too inflammatory so as not to rile up people who may have a strong opposing opinion, while still attempting to pander to and entertain those who agree strongly with my school of thought.

I'd like to come up with a great play on words that will catch everyone's attention, preferably something short and memorable, but the fact that the comment has already gone on this long is going to result in all my aspirations for it falling flat.

I'd like to conclude by executing an *invocation, but I know I'll get distracted and submit before I include it, and of course you can't invoke when editing, so I'll just leave the post un-invoked then re-read and re-re-read it and edit again and again trying to improve upon it and hoping I don't come across as a total dipshit, but knowing absolutely that's exactly how I'm coming across.

Ellen Dance Dare Gone Wrong- With Cops

lantern53 says...

Again, assuming that all cops act this way. Untrue.

It's their daily grind that wears down the humanity. Lot of nutcases and truly dangerous people live in NYC, the progressive paradise. Cops have to deal with them everyday and don't assume you would be any different under the same circumstances.

You can only turn the other cheek so many times. If someone smacked you in the face, even lightly, then again, and again and again, eventually your pacifism would evaporate and you would strike out with everything in you.

newtboy says...

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Your hilarious!
True, I don't need evidence to refute your ridiculous, flip flopping, inconsistent statements, but I offered some evidence anyway! You simply can't accept it, because it proves time and again that you're position flies in the face of logic, reason, and civility.
Most recently I provided evidence that most readers " have the capacity to read these comments and determine for themselves who has failed." and they determined YOU failed. Of course, you discount those that disagree with you (everyone here) in favor of the only one that agrees with you (yourself) and continue to claim backing from (and agreement with) phantoms, somehow 'proving' you're a 'good guy' here. LOL! Just hilarious!
Haters of criminal cops are more often than not thinking individuals, while cops are more often not. A max limit for cops of 110 IQ (and average of <95 IQ) proves that out easily. I'm not surprised that you once again move to insults and non-sequiturs when proven wrong....again and again and again. That is what infants do....throw tantrums and shout "NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO your a meanie and a doodie head" with eyes smashed shut and fingers in ears while thinking they're winning a debate.

U.N: One child killed every hour in Gaza

I agree with your sentiment Yogi but the idea that the US and Israel are alone is just wrong.

The EU and the Arab states have been entirely complicit by omission. The US give the EU cover at the UN, and they are entirely happy to sit there and abstain again and again and again. Even the Palestinians don't trust the Arab nations surrounding them as they've been burned by that far to many times.

Its far to simplistic to act like this is a US/Israel issue, if you want to make an argument they are the 'most' complicit, you'd almost certainly be right. But NO one is holding Israel accountable and letting the cowards in Europe off the hook isn't right either.

Yogi said:

What's most interesting is how they were elected. The Palestinian people elected them in a free election (which UN observers verified). They elected them while being threatened by Israel and the US, they elected their own government with a gun to their head.

The US and Israel only support democracy when they approve the leaders to be elected. They threaten the populace and the leaders before they've even been elected and it's not idle threats either as the past 40 years have shown.

Israel and the United States stand alone against the rest of the world and the tiny population of the Palestinian territories.

Please do some more research, maybe starting with this.
