Caspian Report - Geopolitical Prognosis for 2016 (Part 1)

I think you misunderstand the Swiss referendum. It's about preventing banks from creating money through fractional lending, it doesn't restrict the central bank. Typically banks will take in deposits and lend a portion out (keeping a % as a capital buffer), that money then filters through the system and some of if returns as deposits, and the process repeats (hence the term fractional banking).

In effect banks are creating money through lending out more money than otherwise exists. It also means they lend out far in excess of the deposits they have, creating high leverage and meaning even a small level of default can lead to them eating through their capital and insolvency (see US in 2008). The referendum seems to be about effectively preventing fractional lending.

No idea what effect it would have in a country like Switzerland. The country is an exception as it has a relatively small economy but is seen globally as a safe haven currency meaning every time there is a crisis you see the CHF appreciate rapidly (similar to the USD). Naturally that tends to wreck havoc with the economy and exports since the currency value no longer reflects the real economy and is why the central bank has taken various measures to discourage it in the past.

Popeye's ran out of chicken = Time to go Batshit Crazy

enoch says...

um..not to be a nitpicker, but he didnt appear to be losing his shit over chicken but rather money.

still no excuse to terrorize the joint.
he may be a big boy but good lord was he leaving himself open, because thats how you want to start an altercation:arms back and face presented.

something more is going on here, possibly really good drugs with a healthy dose of booze.

maybe he is just dumb as a stump.

i mean..c'mon.
"hey, let me wreck the joint, threaten the patrons, smack around the help and i'll just wait here for the police so i can get my money."

Truck attempting to go across a very thin wooden bridge

jmd says...

wow, as much as the wood gave under the truck, those rickety looking anchors weren't budging. Not his first time over it for sure. Of course I would have cursed him a million deaths if he did wreck the bridge. Things like those in third worlds can take months to rebuild, and whole towns rely on them.

I feel exactly the same way as you, including the angry way you present it as though you've just been nearly killed by someone on a mobile phone.

These people clearly have a cartoon-like understanding of how a thousand lbs of metal and accelerant behave in a collision. As though you get out of the wreck with a few stars whizzing round your head and you shake your head and feel great again. Stuff like that can cost lives - and if you say that to the guilty party they'll laugh at you as though it's impossible, as though no one has ever negligently killed someone in a car crash. It can cause life-changing medical complications, take away people's livelihoods.

I'm also a defensive driver, and i've still been in many near misses. What i don't understand is why aren't all these reckless distracted drivers in more accidents? Do they have some sort of idiot's immunity?

What a fuck head.

What are they fucking blind that they can't see the car barreling toward them?

This kind of turd-for-brains shit happens to me all the time. Fortunately I'm a very defensive driver and always expecting doucheclogs to come out of nowhere, so I've been able to escape death so far, but it drives me insane how disgustingly ignorant some of these motherless fucks can be.

I'm just glad that auto-braking technology is becoming the de facto standard over the next few years, but it's not happening soon enough.

John Green's Fiery Race Car Disaster

Payback jokingly says...

Wow, $40,000+ Lancer beats a $750- partially wrecked homebuilt dirt track car. Who woulda thunk it?

I also think the "home crew" would have probably faired better against her because I'm absolutely certain they would have been told to not come in contact with her car, otherwise known as "racing" in those parts.

I need to check myself? OMG, what happens if I don't? Will I wreck myself? Well, I shall certainly take care to do so in the future. Thank you for the useful life advice.

But somehow you don't seem to be able to get over the fact that I didn't address the video's main theme (satire) and instead addressed a side issue that is important (at the very least) to me. People are not obliged to only address a topic's main theme and not side issues. You need to check yourself.
