A Scary Time

newtboy says...

Awwwww....Bob.....I like you too, even though we rarely agree and I often detest your position or means to an end.
I must give you credit for having the spine to voice your opinions knowing they'll be unpopular. I'm glad you stick around, this place could easily become an echo chamber without you and a few others. Your stances, if nothing else, are good fuel for spirited debate.

I can be swayed....but I admit even Sisyphus would grow weary in the effort in most cases. ;-)

I like being at this place also, even though I am out numbered 5000:1 That's Ok. It my choice. I like @Newboy the best. He to is unswayable.

Does a vote come with obligatory reason?

I do not think it is a great song. Catchy yes, great no.

I do not need to by into the Men are pigs, bastards, slime, evil.

Men are men. We like beer, We like women. Some men go to far but most don't.

Some women go to far also. Most don't. Where is this catchy song?

So No I do not by into this political crap just because it's the in thing to do. This scale is tipping too far.

Society is full of opposites. Opinions and viewpoints is part of this.

If the girl was ugly would this even be posted or listen to, or given the time of day? Fair question. Would @RFlagg even watched it or hence post it? Maybe Maybe not but having a pretty woman playing a catchy song sure helps get looks and votes. Apparently it got your up and my down and so far 91 views on the sift.

In you honor I gave it an upvote.

The Harms of Marijuana

newtboy says...

That's what American Spirit brand was all about....additive free cigarettes.

MilkmanDan said:

Wow. Little to no evidence of smoked marijuana having any connection to lung or other cancers.

I must admit I'm surprised. To me it seems like burning something and inhaling the smoke is "obviously" a bad idea with regards to health.

Since the link between tobacco cigarettes and cancer is well established and agreed on by doctors, it makes one wonder what the difference is. Is it entirely the additives that cigarette manufacturers put into cigarettes? If so, why the hell wouldn't there be massive pressure to mass produce additive-free cigarettes at least as an option for smokers?

Nirvana Were a Feminist Band

MilkmanDan says...

I knew some of this stuff, but not that. But that seems ... problematic.

Cobain's lyrics were pretty famously difficult to understand. I had no clue what most of the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit were until like 20 years after I first heard it when I was 10. Weird Al's parody of the song directly jabs at this, which a whole verse being:

"It's so unintelligible
I just can't get it through my skull
It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss???
With all these marbles in my mouth"

Considering all of that, if you're listening to "Polly" or "Rape Me" but only hearing half of the words, is it any surprise that people might not fully grasp the message? Might even interpret the songs as being pro instead of anti?

I love Nirvana. I agree with the intended messages of their music (at least, to the extent that I understand them). But any time that a band thinks that they don't want fans who don't agree with their "message", I tend to think it is just pointless.

Lots of bands take very clear political / ethical stances in their music. I can like the music without being fully on board with those messages. Even if I'm utterly opposed to them. I can like Rage Against the Machine without fighting the system. I can like System of a Down without being ... psycho? You might be a registered Republican who likes NOFX, or a registered Democrat who likes Kid Rock or Brooks and Dunn.

Basically, if I like what you're doing musically I don't give two shits about what your message is. The extent to which it might make me like you more or less is very negligible.

"rape me " was written as a reaction to the lack of response and understanding of "polly". basically "oh, that was too difficult to understand? this one should be a little clearer."

Michelle Wolf at 2018 White House Correspondents' Dinner

Mordhaus says...

Just wasn't funny to me. Seemed like they were just trying too hard.

It really says something to me when the President of the organization that sponsors the event makes a statement distancing themselves from the host.

"Last night's program was meant to offer a unifying message about our common commitment to a vigorous and free press while honoring civility, great reporting and scholarship winners, not to divide people," Talev said. "Unfortunately, the entertainer's monologue was not in the spirit of that mission."

Talev's Sunday night email to members indicated that changes could be afoot. She said she and SiriusXM's Olivier Knox, the association's next president, "are committed to hearing from members on your views on the format of the dinner going forward."

MiniDOOM - Launch Trailer, play now!

JiggaJonson says...

Idk, kind of not in the spirit of the original game at all.

The whole thing with Doom was it was alarming to turn a corner and have a monster RIGHT THERE in your face. Gameplay was FAST too, which added to the feeling of immersion.

I hear the pew pew pew of this plasma rifle that's firing anything less than 20 rounds a second and weep digital tears.

INTENSE CRASH | BIKER VS SEMI TRUCK

shagen454 says...

My pops had a motorcycle and got into an accident getting onto the freeway - supposedly wasn't even going that fast but took off all of the skin on his side. Can't believe this guy didn't get massively wrecked somewhere in there (and in good spirits directly afterwards)!

Oprah For America! Really?

newtboy jokingly says...

Certainly not happening under Trump...it's the only thing he had going for him...and from your description, I'm sure he feels like it's kindred spirit.

The first thing that needs to happen to restore America to sanity is flushing the Electoral College. It's a useless relic, and serves zero purpose in modern times.

Videosift is not for self promotion in this way. That's why url's get erased.
This is better than a pure self link, but I'm pretty sure this still violates the guidelines....it certainly violates their spirit.

Flat Earther To Launch Himself In Homemade Rocket

HenningKO says...

Man... not me!
Go for homemade rocketry! And if this guy is a fireball or a smear on the desert in a week... still go. Risk-taking and a spirit of adventure IS something that used to make America great.
Don't get me wrong... his motive is silly. But I admire the will.

ChaosEngine said:

Eh, proving things for yourself can only be taken so far, and I feel that when your experiment includes the words “homemade manned rocket”, you have crossed the line.
