On August 13, 2015, as part of a five-year programming and development deal, Sesame Workshop announced that first-run episodes of Sesame Street would move to premium television service HBO beginning with season 46, which premiered on January 16, 2016. HBO will hold first-run rights to all newer episodes of the series, after which they will air on PBS member stations following a nine-month exclusivity window, with no charge to the stations for airing the content. The agreement also gives HBO exclusive rights to stream past and future Sesame Street episodes on HBO Go and HBO Now – assuming those rights from Amazon Video and Netflix; on August 14, Sesame Workshop announced that it would phase out its in-house subscription streaming service, Sesame Go, as a standalone service; the service will remain in operation, likely with its offerings reduced to a slate content available for free or serving as a portal for Sesame Street's website.

The deal came in the wake of cutbacks that had affected the series in recent years, the changing viewer habits of American children in the previous ten years, and Sesame Workshop's dependence upon revenue from DVD sales.

Homeless people should be getting money from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) (aka welfare) but that money has, in a bi-partisan way, been misappropriated and the broad language of the law signed in 96 basically let states do whatever the fuck they want with that cash. $16.5 billion is spent on stupid bullshit like dance parties to help out shitty marriages when it should be doing what that money is named for.

Point being, $445 million < 16.5 billion And I argue there is spending happening that contributes a lot less to society than PBS, NPR, etc. do.

That TANF fund is just one example of a program that's pulling down billions and dumping it, unsurprisingly, into the pockets of for-profit companies that are more than happy to scoop up TANF dollars or any other funds the Federal Government throws at them.

i have no issue with disagreement.
i have read many of hedges books,and to see his evolution over the years really should not surprise anyone.

we all have an evolution of sorts when we continue to investigate,and challenge our own preconceptions.the intelligent man or woman,will accept this new information,and change their conclusions accordingly.the hyper-partisan and/or rigid fundamentalist,will dismiss this new information because it conflicts with their dearly held preconceptions.

some people struggle with a changing landscape,and prefer to reside in their own comfort zones.

i like hedges because he challenges and criticizes power,but he also tends to speak in apocalyptic verbiage.

i also respect hedges because he does back up his opinions with actual sources.now we can disagree with his conclusions,but how he came to those conclusions,he is quite clear.

on a side note:i cannot watch or read hedges for extended periods due to the fact that what he is pointing out is so damn depressing.

but he is incredibly consistent in regards to criticizing power.

which,in my opinion,is so very vital in these times,because we see the majority of corporate media revealing a reverence and fealty to corporate power.

chris hedges has earned my respect.
but i do not demand that everyone read or listen to him.

if we refuse to accept the words,or conclusions from any public personality,simply because of the media that they happen to be on,then..in my opinion..we relegate ourselves to a handful of outlets,and it diminishes the conversation.

is it any wonder or surprise that those academics that are critical of power are NEVER seen on corporate media?
that those brave and courageous journalists and academics are forced to the fringes in order to get their messages out.

it appears that any journalist,or academic that is critical of power are relegated to the fringes.

you will never see noam chomsky on FOX,or MSNBC,or CNN.

Alfa Bank has been communicating in secret with Trump during the course of the campaign. Traffic peaks during pivotal campaign moments (conventions, debates, scandals etc.) The server was set up in a way that one computer expert said was the way organized crime does it when two different groups want to collaborate in secret. Once the first findings were published on Reddit, the Trump server suddenly went offline.

A week later, a new Trump server came online and the very first communication from the Internet to that new server was from Alfa Bank. This cannot be random, the Trump server has an unpublished address, so only someone who knew the exact address could contact that server.

I think it's very clear Trump is receiving instructions from Moscow. Probably due to his huge debt load. Draw your own conclusions.

I would suggest that before making a mountain out of this less that a molehill, people should actually READ it. (I know, what AM I thinking?)

It's actually the opposite of how it's being presented here. It questions what might make some people, at some times, think in those ways, it does not suggest that those thoughts are proper or conducive to healthy relationships, just the opposite. It was horribly written, just like most things in the early 70's, but Bernie is not running for poet laurite.

I would like to point out that there's actually nothing about children in the paper at all, not one single word....that's just been made up by someone...and I know what I think about people who make up stories to rail against...methinks thou doth protest too much. DOFP should do it. It starts in the future where the world's gone to shit and the last few X Men have a last stand. Wolverine gets sent back in time to change things. So now the filmmakers have a clean slate because everything forward from the '70s (the era W went back to) is rewritten.

Plus, the entire movie is worth it just for the Quicksilver scene.

I take these "everything you thought you knew is wrong" presentations for the fluff-pieces that they are, Slate.com is full of them. This guy is just as glib and vague as any myth that people may be spouting. You want to dispel some misconceptions then do the research, like they did in the Wild West.
