10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer
Exorcist 3 was way better than the second movie, although technically it is a sequel to the first.
Mad Max Fury Road was better than... well, all of the Mad Max movies.
Die Hard 3 was WAY better than the snooze fest sequel. Samuel L. Jackson, man.
Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country is WAY better than the original, 3, 4, and 5. So sometimes the sequel is good and then it takes 4 more movies before you get a good one in.
James Bond arguably got better with age. Maybe not the most recent ones, but Golden Eye was amazing. Great games can also be spawned from over making a franchise!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is hands down the best of Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy. It wasn't just a western, it was an epic civil war movie in the west. And the ending with the Mexican stand off; soundtrack?!?! Hot damn! Not that the "sequel" sucked but the third was the BEST.
I know there are a couple good horror series that had a better third or fourth movie. Any Hellraiser is better than Hellraiser 2, same goes for Halloween. Though I can't say they were ever as good as their originals. It's still a hope I reserve for horror movies that make it past their shitty sequel.
The next Ring might be awesome. "Might." It's had a fairly massive career spanning 4 countries, 12 movies, 2 telvis ion series, 2 video games and a bunch of manga. Movies most people don't even know exist. I think the seventh iteration of the Ring (2002's American Ring) is the best.
And, while it might just technically count, it's worth noting that while i like Gaspar Noe's despair trilogy, his third movie Enter the Void is the only movie in the trilogy I can enjoy watching a third or fourth time. I once recommended his movies and alienated an entire office space. The only movie anyone enjoyed was his third movie.
Ghostbusters 3 will probably be better than 2. Blasphemy!! Hah, we will see. Girl power!
I think Batman also got better because of Nolan. Does that count? I mean, if a franchise goes on that long, it's all just sequels, despite the so-called canon and concept of "rebooting" a FAKE universe.
(Does Harry Potter count as the third movie in the Troll series?)
So the 3rd or 4th movies of these franchises were awesome while the sequel sucked?
Aliens vs. Predators I and II were good, while Predator 2 sucked?
Cant' agree whith you there.
Rambo 3 and John Rambo were good and Rambo 2 sucked?
I think they all sucked (except the first).
Jurassic Park 2 sucked while 3 and World were good?
I don't know, but I doubt it.
The Matrix Revolutions? Really?
I may be the only human being who hated all Matrix movies but I read of Matrix fans who wanted to scream at Neo to shut up while watchin M3 in the theatre. :-)

Hmm.. Predator, Rambo.
Would you give me Jurassic Park and The Matrix?

I say sequel the fuck out of everything and sort it all out after. Occasionally you get a good combo -- but you'd never know until you sequel the shit out of it. And, hell, sometimes the sequel sucks but the 3rd or 4th movie is awesome. So I welcome the 3rd and 4th Cloverfield even if this one sucks. What would I do without all my Phantasm movies?
Not every decent movie needs a sequel.

Lost cat found the stash
That means you weren't cute enough.

I tried this at the local pot store and they threw me out!
The Goonies - You Think You Know Movies?
one of my favorite childhood movies. I would for them to do a sequel, with all of them obviously grownup, either stuck in dead-end jobs, or going through a mid-life crisis and going on a new adventure.
After Hours: Why Sauron is Secretly the Good Guy in LOTR
No.
There is an unofficial sequel written on the premise that Mordor was Middle-earth's first progressive, technological civilisation; which was thrown down by effectively a crusade of religious fanatics. I didn't get very far into it (because I was reading it as a pdf on a computer monitor), but Saruman's motivation at least makes substantially more sense in that interpretation.
This video gets somewhat hard to follow when half the time I can't tell if they're saying 'Soren' or mispronouncing 'Sauron'.
Videosifts Sarzys Best And Worst Movies Of 2015
Far different from what I would rank as Top 10 of 2015....
Especially the Top movie pick. As much as I think I quay myself a SW fan (too many expensive SW collectibles, ringtone's set to the Imperial March since my first smartphone... blah blah) this one is a minor disappointment. There are lots and lots of superior choice even for a SW fan.... if you're even slightly unbiased.
On Drachen_Jager's points: pretty much what I thought after seeing the movie. My thought is SW:TFA is right in the "middle of the road" movie, whether you look at it from a fan/non-fan perspective. It's not as good as any of the OT, but better than the prequels. And as a stand alone Sci-Fantasy Action movie.... it's a turn-off-your-brain-then-it's-good kind of movie. Too many media/fan's buying into the hype-machine to rate it that high.
Still, it's a commendable direction the new sequels is taking the franchise in the future. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt on all the stupid fights/plotholes in this movie just so it can move further pass the OT characters so as no further sully the fond memories of these OT characters by seeing them on screens as tools rather than heroes.
Have to disagree with Star Wars.
Without the massive appeal the series built, this movie wouldn't get many good reviews at all. The plot is an insane jumble of random events and plotholes that should have been embarrassing. To enumerate a few:
1) Randomly Melennium Falcon happens to be at the right place, right time (I can buy this, barely, because it's fun)
2) Before they can even have a full conversation (something the filmmakers seemed determined to avoid, even though, as this list shows, dialogue can make riveting cinema) HS and Chewie burst in. I could buy into this, if not for the rapid-fire pace of these events, as it is it just seems random and things are starting to get silly.
3) Before THEY can even have a full conversation not one, but two gangs HAPPEN upon the group, for no reason, except some executive was apparently worried about giving the audience a moment to reflect and MAYBE develop some connection with the characters.
4) Kylo Ren kicks ass. He's the only Force master EVER to stop a blaster bolt mid progress. He's got some serious juice!
5) Kylo Ren can't fight his way out of a paper bag (a bag named Finn) narrowly winning the fight and merely wounding the otherwise fairly useless ex-stormtrooper.
6) Kylo Ren is BEATEN by some chick with no training whatsoever! (Don't get me wrong, I like Rey, but the good guys are SUPPOSED to be weaker than the bad guys, and what's the point in Jedi training if she already kicks Evil's ass? )
7) WTF is up with this whiny Emo? He is, bar-none, the worst villain of the entire SW series thus far. It's not surprising that they defeat him, he's so useless, what's surprising is it takes them so damn long to beat his whining Emo shitty-at-lightsaber-duelling ass.
IMO the whole film was a hot mess that reeked of far too much studio interference which turns artistic vision into "more explosions!"
In summary, and this is totally true, my ten-year-old son, who loved the first 3 SWs (I won't let him watch the prequels) when asked what he thought of it replied, "Too many explosions." This is the mediocrity paradigm of big-budget Hollywood films at it's pinnacle.
Garbage Train
Can't wait for the sequel.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Nostalgia Critic
that nostalgia guy is such an apologist for anything SW.
I enjoyed the heck out of the movie, but the similarities to 4 was a huge negative for me.
His so called "explanation" for why it's similar to 4 is bullshit. It would be a credible explanation if sequels mimicing previous movies was a relatively isolated phenomenon. But sequels copying previous movies is something that has been going on for a long fucking time, so his argument just does NOT hold water at all.
Sequels mimic previous movies because Hollywood thinks we're idiots and that we don't notice these things. It's that simple. Hollywood has always tended towards safe and simple instead of taking risks and telling different stories.
It's not rocket science.
[♪] Portal - Carol of the Turrets
I still need to buy and play its sequel. Stupid old life.
Independence Day 2 Resurgence: Trailer
Yeah but you're making a sequel from gold (haha, get it) and making one of trash...so not cool.
There's nothing quite like a trashy scifi with some money and some history behind it. Also, didn't you know, if you take a shitty scifi script all you need to do is add some Jeff Goldblum and now it's a cult classic. This recipe has been around for as long as Jeff Goldblum has acted.
trainspotting-introduction to begbie
I'm actually pretty excited to watch the sequel
Roald Dahls' BFG - Disney Teaser Trailer
Just as long they don't make a sequel "BFG 2000"...
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny - Trailer
CTHD was such a near perfect film, any sequel will almost certainly be judged poorly against it. Taken by itself, however, this film looks like it could be a fun romp.
