The Death Couloir - Mont Blanc

StukaFox says...

Therein lies the problem: most people HUGELY over-estimate their 'Acceptable risk level'.

- "This crumbling cliff edge above a 1,000 foot gorge is the PERFECT place for a selfie!" (one of the saddest deaths in WA was when one of the best skiers in the state decided to look over the edge of a cornice. It gave way and she fell almost a thousand feet to her death.)

- "100f and 0% humidity? What a perfect time to go for a 10 mile, uphill hike with only a can of Coke and some salty beef jerky!"

- "10 essentials? Beer, pot, lighter, cellphone, hat, earbuds, that little map they give you at the visitor center, more beer and is that 10?"

- "I can read a map just fine! This off-trail hike through a rugged part of the park will be breeze!"

- "I can get signal anywhere in this enormous national forest!"

- "Aww! What a cute little baby bear!"

- "Can we get an Uber at the bottom of this ravine?"

- "Let's go swimming! This raging river of snow melt will be the perfect place to cool off!"

etc etc etc

Rate the daily danger level, sure, and allow adults to choose their acceptable risk level.

Coyote Peterson - Finale- Giant Desert Centipede Bite

StukaFox says...

"If you see one of these things in the desert, don't touch it!"

Naw, really? The big, pissed-off centipede thing with giant jaws: Don't touch that? Well, FUCK! NOW you tell me! Damn, I was about to pet it and call it George. You certainly saved my ass there, Mr. "Hey -- I wonder what'll happen if I piss this motherfucker off and let it bite me? OW OW OW OW OW OW!!"

The saddest thing is there's probably video out on the internets of some guy sticking one of these things on his dick and letting it bite him. I mean, getting bit on the forearm is so 2017: you gotta up your game to get those YouTube views! 20,000,000 views and you get a free yo-yo!

Yup, time to write another review on Leafly.

Video World - The Death of a Video Store

EMPIRE says...

This is sad

I too remember the good old days when my dad got a Betamax (yes! we had beta before VHS) and we would try to find a couple of movies in that format at the video store closest to our house. I still remember him looing for Blade Runner back then.

I also remember many years later, but several years ago, going into a video store and renting movies by the 4 or 5 each time, to take home and watch.

Good old days.

The saddest part of that movie? That a business owner at that age had to go work at customer service at a grocery store.

Unsatisfying

The Science (and Dangers) of Booze in Humans

worthwords says...

One of the saddest things to see in medicine is Korsakoff dementia. A person can seem quite jovial and interactive but you soon begin to realise that they can't recall something you said 20 seconds ago and tend to confabulate in order to explain the massive gaps in their memory about who they are or why they are here. Heartbreaking

Coulter predicts Trump's rise to much laughter

newtboy says...

OK....I don't have much faith in the HuffPo to be unbiased...so I checked the other link, and the second poll they list has Trump winning by 2%. Scrolling down, a number of polls have Trump winning, and a significantly larger number have them statistically tied when you count the margin of error....but the numbers are not what I thought, which was a purely statistical tie between Trump and Clinton, slightly in favor of Trump (or at least so it seems, the margin of error is missing from the averaged data for no reason, making the stat shown completely meaningless mathematically).

The best stat I noticed was the 'newest polls' on the side, where in New Hampshire, Trump VS Clinton has Clinton win by 5% (notably with the margin of error not listed)...but Trump VS Sanders has Sanders win by 21%....but still the (clearly false) claim that 'Clinton is the best candidate to beat Trump' is repeated ad-nauseam by her supporters and the media.

The saddest part was I also noticed only 2 of all those polls had >1500 people polled, most were about 1000 people, but they claim their margin of error is only 3%?!? Statistics class was a while back, but that doesn't seem right when they are meant to represent full states or even the entire country based on 1000 people's answers.

I admit I haven't put a lot of time into it, but a quick google shows Clinton winning pretty comfortably in almost every poll.

Feuerschwanz - Zuckerbrot und Peitsche (Live)

jmd says...

This thing needs english subtitles!

BTW this has to be the saddest stage and lighting I have ever seen for a PV. They got the good camera angles, and an editor who knows his shiat, but those lights...I have seen better in highschools! And almost no time spent on the routine.

Trump's Thoughts On Women

bobknight33 says...

From the Mitt Romney super pac.

The establishment is going bat shit crazy.

The saddest part of all this is that the establishment created the environment for Trump to be, by not doing what the people wanted them to do and that is stand up and fight the left, but they caved.

Attack Of The Drones

poolcleaner says...

Saddest part is my girlfriend was filming the hawk but didn't see the owls stalking it, so when they flew out she panicked and gave the world ZERO wildlife photography. Now all I have is a cool story. Stupid girlfriend. Still screwing me over years later. Ain't that the truth though?

Awesome catch by the bear

00Scud00 says...

Lots of fakes on the internet are pretty pointless, they just want to see how many people they can fool. Sometimes I think it's a form of trolling.
Also, while it is plenty cute, it's also the saddest example of an apex predator that I've seen in a while.

If it's fake it's one of the most pointless fakes ever. Who'd benefit? I've no idea who posted it - but the girl acts and sounds dumb as *^$*, it's not advertising anything except bears and at best may go viral for a week (hardly grounds for a big copy write grab).

I'd have to guess it's real simply because there's no point in faking this.

Cockatoo Running Around Screaming and Yelling

KrazyKat42 says...

I almost bought a parrot owned by a truck driver. It cursed like a sailor! The pet store had to keep in in a separate room because it scared away customers. Funny as hell.

I also heard a parrot that was owned by a widow who recently died. It just cried in an old woman's voice. Cried and cried. Saddest thing I ever heard.

DeNiro, Dicaprio, Pitt, and Scorsese Sell Out for Casino Ad

ChaosEngine says...

Saddest of all is DeNiro.

Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Pitt are still doing pretty good work, but I'm looking at DeNiro's filmography right now and IMHO, the last decent movie he had anything other than a bit part in, was Ronin..... 17 years ago.

You think Scorsese would throw him a bone and give him a decent role.
