Disturbing Star Trek: The Motion Picture Transporter Malfunc

moonsammy says...

There was an Outer Limits episode which explored this theme. Certainly more than a bit of a mindfuck.

Transporters are creepy anyway.

"Yes. You will cease to exist, but we will create an identical copy of you somewhere else, so needn't worry!"
"But my consciousness will be transported right? Into the new body?"
"Errrrrrrrr. Maybe!"

A lesser-anger-inducing answer would have been "4chan bullshit"

Fuck I hate the internets. Truly. Even if it's complete madeup bullshit other than the picture, that story isn't even remotely near the outer limit of what has already been done to others for reals.

I think we agree that he implies that the outer limit is the electromagnetic force from the nucleus to the electron. But wait... he is pulling a fast on us.

This is a 1/r potential. So it isn't discrete at all. How is it like a box? This new question has answered part of our first question: He says that one end is the electromagnetic force. How can a continuous potential be treated like one that exists over a finite extent?

Or in other words: He says it is a box with well defined edges. But, it is more like valley (think of a bowling ball on a trampoline). A valley is not a box.

So I think all this really did was confirm that we are in fact GIANT amoebas.

Jiggling blobs of specialized cells.

I think that hippie professor guy pretty much explained the same thing except less Outer Limits storyline.

Saturday morning cartoons taught you collectivism! (Politics Talk Post)

choggie says...

The socio-genetic experiment has worked well-Gone are the days of bashing people over thehead with mallets and blowing them up with TNT-I watched Sesame Street for the musical numbers-The best cartoons were ones with no message whatsoever rather, the renderings and animation always held preeminence over the scripting. Mornings before public school programming were spent with the 3 stooges and Bugs, Woody Woodpecker and re-runs of Twilight zone and Outer Limits at night...

I grew up listening to music more that suckling of of the cathode ray nipple-Lot's of Zappa, obscure garage bands, and selective pop. Television was clear as a fucking bell to me- An insidious programming glow for those whose minds were already forming into a mass of putty easily manipulated and influenced to do the bidding of the advertisers, financiers, and criminal politicians bent on turning everyone into easily managed robots.(I did watch every Charlie's Angels episode each week, and had posters of all of em, on the wall opposite the black light posters!)

Fast-forward to the now and it would seem that the shit worked better than expected. The last couple of generations are as gullible and susceptible as ever to the machine.

Art, music, performance, and the artisan trades are dying-the third-world is polluting the first(by design), and regurgitated, hackneyed scripts have replaced what was once a higher more inspired art.

More power to ya BF, as you do battle in the exclusive arena you have chosen....The passion is what is important.

Anyone Seen "Moon" (Scifi Talk Post)

Sarzy says...

It's really, really good. I actually thought of you when I saw it, dag, because I know how much you love sci-fi, and this is the type of intelligent, well-made sci-fi cinema that comes along so infrequently. It's kind of like a cross between 2001, Silent Running and a really good Outer Limits episode. It's definitely one of my favourite films of the year so far. And Sam Rockwell is amazing in it -- I was already a fan of his, but this movie made me respect him even more. Good stuff.

School, no. But I did infer much of this from reading copious amounts of H.P. Lovecraft, watching the entirety of Stargate SG-1 and raiding in the World of Warcraft.

Now, describe for me why a New World order is a bad thing.

Can you describe to me why a New World Order is a bad thing? How are we supposed to fight against the aliens if we're not under one?
Sure suggest you watch these videos and get yourself educated!

First start with knowing what technology is kept from you.

Then watch this video - Now tell me they showed you this stuff in school. Highly Doubt it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewshk_vjCKA&feature=related
Plus if you actually do your homework you'd know this stuff by now.

Thanks for listening at least most don't even comment.

Poll: Should VideoSift Allow full TV episodes (1sttube Talk Post)

joedirt says...

A few issues need banged out first.

REGION BLOCKING can be a big deal. Maybe nbc.com isn't region blocking, but what about CBC or BBC, etc. The sift might become a mess.

COMMERCIALS are annoying. Almost all of these full episodes have some autoplay commercials or post/pre-video commercials. I personally think these full episodes need to be contained in a seperate part of the sift. But regarding commercials, it won't be long before ALL video sites have them. YouTube, LiveLeak, Vimeo, they all will soon. Trust me.

I'm going to be very annoyed when ever new episode gets posted when it first hits the internet. (ZOMG, the lastest Office / SouthPark !!!)
I'm also going to be annoyes when someone posts every Outer Limits episode ever.

Also, most of these places are pulling their content after a certain time. Comedy Central does this, and I think more will.

P.S. I voted for Edwards in that poll above.

Dude, don´t eat that!!!

possom says...

I recall seeing a similar short many years ago where a man sees a juicy red apple on a tree stump, bites into it, and is pulled into the pond. I want to say it was on Twilight Zone or Outer Limits, but cannot find it online.
