Most insects have a ventral nerve cord which is a set of cells that allow for movement based purely on external stimuli so the brain doesn’t need to be involved at all for reactive movement. These cells also seem to do the job of proprioception, locating the body position in space, so it’s not that surprising it can stand itself up and walk…it can likely even move away from high heat. I just had a realization….there are now 5000 households from Palisades alone that are “homeless” (except those with second houses) and sounds like another 5000 around LA.
It’s a good bet these are mostly the same people who consistently voted against low income housing in LA, definitely NIMBY. They now find themselves competing for the few available rental properties.
In the short term that’s karmic. In the long term, I wonder what it means for their homeless population and wonder if we can expect an exodus since services and opportunities are about to dry up.

On a side note, thousands of animals are now homeless, lost, hurt, or in need of supplies in LA. If you can donate directly to a local rescue, do it. Don’t donate to national charities that spend 98% on advertising and administration costs, donate directly to rescue organizations that spend donations on animals.

One of two “super scoopers” on loan from Canada is out of commission after hitting a civilian drone this morning, further hampering efforts. Fortunately the plane managed to land safely with a hole in its wing and not crash into residential LA.
It is a crime to fly a drone in an active disaster area, with a $75k fine and up to 12 months in prison.
Firefighters lost water pressure when PG&E shut off electricity to the pumps that maintain water pressure to keep the lines from sparking new fires, again hampering fire fighting efforts. They are working on getting generators attached to the pumping stations to restore pressure.
At least one new fire started in LA today, suspected of being arson.
This already looks to be the most costly natural disaster in American history, and it is still unfolding.

I hope Biden manages to deliver the aid he has promised before he leaves office. The felon will clearly try to block any aid to a blue state out of personal spite and will leave us to fend for ourselves. (If only we could do the same)

Nope, they’ll celebrate by pretending it didn’t happen, and it was thuggish BLM, and it was a totally peaceful, and it was violent ANTIFA agents pretending to be Trumpists, and it was a love fest, and it was an attack directed and instigated entirely by undercover fbi agents, and by pre-celebrating the expected pardons for the most violent cop beating armed terrorists, the only ones still in prison 4 years later (PS- accepting a pardon is an admission of guilt).

This goes for 100% of maga, because 100% now intentionally ignore that it happened and pretend that it doesn’t make them treasonous anti Americans and anti democratic foreign agents all to support the man who fomented a violent anti democratic coup against America….but it does.

I don’t think honking would help at freeway speeds, but hazard lights might. If you find yourself in this position, hit your hazards immediately…before you crash… it might save you from the next guy.
In this case I wondered why the people filming weren’t at least waiving a flashlight at traffic to warn them…or something. A few extra seconds to brake might have avoided most of this…as would driving a sane speed in ice which no one was doing.

Awwwww….all that sound and fury for nothing, just exposing the corrupt right willing to suborn any level of perjury and put up any foreign criminal they could find to attack their political rival’s families.

Another abuse thwarted, Hunter is pardoned….just like the next president plans to do for himself and has already done for his own family members and most of his convicted administration officials, donors (anyone willing to pay >$200k for a pardon), his lawyers, campaign officials, and dozens of drug traffickers, and plans for the treasonous anti American cop killing traitors that tried a violent coup and failed.

My wife and I went to Iceland (I went to a formula offroad event while there!) a while back, and one B&B host told us that for years they sent videos of Formula Offroad to SkyTV (the European version of ESPN) with no response. Eventually they got through to someone to ask why, and were told “SkyTV doesn’t broadcast remote control cars”….yes, for over a decade they assumed no human would drive like that and it must be RC cars! When they proved it was real full size cars with real live drivers, it was immediately put on air and has been popular ever since.
Good stuff.

Side note…these events are one main way Iceland funds most of its rescue teams that save stupid tourists that go off trail and get lost.
