How in the hell is this "unbelievable"? Have these people not watched movies in thirty years?
Latex makeup and masks are nothing new, nor are they hard to obtain or use.

Agreed. Seems to me like fail on the part of airport security and CNN

Lady Gaga - Alejandro

HadouKen24 says...

I actually liked it. It's a tremendously complex video that rewards watching it several times and expending effort interpreting it. The man with the gun--did he shoot Gaga, or is planning to shoot himself? Perhaps he--Alejandro, apparently--is meant to signify a gay man trapped in a straight marriage. Note that in the bedroom, he and Gaga are both constrained by cables from the ceiling, as if they are marionette puppets. Perhaps he killed himself, and is thus the man buried by Gaga in the funeral procession.

What's the with the man wearing the Star of David with a cage around his head, and the man nearby wearing a stylized pyramid? Is Gaga just throwing a bone to the conspiracy theorists, or do they play a more significant role in the video? I am tempted to say that they do. They are presented with the lockstep march of the soldiers, offering commentary on the way they are closely regimented and controlled.

Just a few points: Every costume Gaga wears appears to symbolize some means of control or liberation. Nazi Dictator Gaga, as I have dubbed her, in the black outfit with the goggles, is a symbol of externalized, nefarious control. Cabaret Gaga, in the underwear, seems to represent purely carnal sexual liberation--just plain sex--which is outside her system of control, but does not seem to seriously subvert it. Machine Gun Madonna Gaga might is a woman who--like Dictator Gaga--has seized masculine, phallic power to herself, but in a rather dangerous way. Following the appearance of the M-16 bra, we see that the soldiers are led to violence and domination. Red Latex Nun Gaga symbolizes is like Dictator Gaga in that she represents control--but passive, internalized control, rather than external control--but is nonetheless just as controlling; she has, by accepting the system of control into herself, enslaved a man into a desperate, entirely inappropriate heterosexual marriage. The flip side is Anti-Christ Gaga, who, like Cabaret Gaga, symbolizes sexual liberation from control--but in a spiritualized, highly subversive form--though the flash of an appearance of Dictator Gaga may indicate that this, too, is part of the machinations of the system of control.

There's plenty more one can say. A number of narrative threads, occurring simultaneously, can be teased out of the video.

Also, lots of man-candy. Yay!

For Whom the Bell Trolls (Military Talk Post)

She's not even latex-clad and straddling a Great Dane. Why would I care about her avatar?

I can't help think that totolusa's avatar is having an effect on your wanting "her" back.

Anyone into document management? (Geek Talk Post)

dgandhi says...

I suggest either git or mercurial.

All the cool programmer kids are using one of these. They are both very popular (lots of support/help available), and very well featured. There are a few advantages to git for folks who are publishing code, but if that is not what you are doing you will not see the difference. They are both free (as in speech and beer), and require no server backend.

Since you are on an MS OS you are probably better off with mercurial, since git has not generally been MS friendly.

These systems allow you to control the contents of folders, or groups of folders, as one unit, commit the current state, add/rename/remove files or folders, and sync them with any number of other copies. Every copy has an entire revision history, so you can grab any version from any copy. Very useful.

I personally use a two teared approach:

1) Everything I edit on my machine is automatically saved by RCS, so whenever I save a file from my editor it commits, I rarely use these versions, but it has saved my ass on occasion when I did something stupid on changes I had not committed to a repository.

2) I manage projects (code/text/latex/tax returns), with mercurial, and then sync them with my server to keep backups, or to publish code/sites.

Arm wrestler has one giant arm

lucky760 says...

I actually just recalled a news story I heard about years ago wherein men would inject lots and lots of some kind of oil into their arms to intentionally make them look enormous like Popeye. That's exactly how the guy in this video looks. He doesn't have muscle showing just bloat, especially in his hand itself which looks like an inflated latex glove. It's probably more an intimidation technique than anything else I'd guess.

George Lucas sucks, or: one of the many reasons why the new trilogy is so much worse than the old (Blog Entry by Sarzy)

Sagemind says...

I agree 100% with this photo - The first trilogy used technology without showboating. The new trilogy felt more like a showcase for the new technology!

I missed the latex and animatronics, I missed the Yoda puppet, I missed the Jabba puppet. I missed all the wonderful possibilities that modern technology could have done to the model making and creature creation.

I think the dogfights were much more interesting in the new trilogy but that just made them spend too much time on them showing us all the wonderful things they could do. Episode One should have been called "Star Wars: Podracing!"

when writing my post i was trying to find her story (remembered so few details i couldn't find the story) it is heartbreaking... ashame she had to die to we could know more about how mercury can kill us (goes through gloves in seconds!)

In reply to this comment by bellman:
Yeah, mercury is not too bad. Dimethylmercury, on the other hand, is so incredibly poisonous that it's slowly and horribly fatal if you get just a few drops of it on your fucking latex gloves. Poor Karen Wetterhan.

Will a cannonball float in mercury?

^GDGD:
Saying fagot to infer someone is whiny or did something 'bitch like' or what have you, sounds to me as if it is playing off of the stereotype that some homosexuals are more effeminate, so i do not really get that as the perfect description.

You admit its a stereotype and this what I believe as well. I don't think this is a trait everyone homosexual person shares no matter how much Will and Grace would like us to believe.

I mean no one gets upset at being called white trash do they. By defending the term faggot or gay, you are basically creating the very thing you fight against. I mean I think homosexuals are simply people who prefer other venues of sexual activity nothing more, no more weird then people into s&m or latex pron.
