I have a good story for that comment.
My wife and I went to Iceland (I went to a formula offroad event while there!) a while back, and one B&B host told us that for years they sent videos of Formula Offroad to SkyTV (the European version of ESPN) with no response. Eventually they got through to someone to ask why, and were told “SkyTV doesn’t broadcast remote control cars”….yes, for over a decade they assumed no human would drive like that and it must be RC cars! When they proved it was real full size cars with real live drivers, it was immediately put on air and has been popular ever since.
Good stuff.

Side note…these events are one main way Iceland funds most of its rescue teams that save stupid tourists that go off trail and get lost.

Um…it is NOT sea water…wtf!?
This is the outflow of Iceland’s largest power plant that runs on geothermal hot springs/steam.
It’s amazing, and so popular it can take months to get a reservation, and the line to get in without one can be hours and hours long….outside in Icelandic weather.
Sadly, it may be gone soon. Recent eruptions are very nearby and may have already damaged the pools and buildings, and it is forecast to be overrun by lava soon. If you never got to see this, you missed out on a huge bit of Icelandic culture.

Iceland’s not real!

There isn’t a single McDonalds in all of Iceland!! One more draw for the most beautiful country in the Northern hemisphere. Just stunning…all of it. Highly recommend.

The first time I flew to Iceland on the aptly-named Iceland Air, the "entertainment" consisted of the entire catalog of Sigur Ros and Bjork. The seat-back screens in the cheap seats had a list of movies that an old UHF channel would have turned its nose up at, and an endless loop of four commercials for wonderful Iceland -- in Icelandic -- that you couldn't turn off. They also insisted in asking people to pay in isk for Icelandic food, which was both a novelty, an annoyance and a source of nausea all in one.
That said, it was better than Air France by a long shot.

This is the kind of Icelandic music that makes me happy….or prepares me for battle…or both, I’m not sure….
