1 Scientifically Proven Thing Actually Makes People Happier

I really enjoy my commute, it's my un-stressed book reading or game playing or quiet contemplation and staring out the window time. Unless it's raining, it usually includes some walking. I suspect Hank's point mostly applies to commuting by car.

No, Pokémon Go Can't Read Your Email

Babymech says...

I love the fact that Pokemon Go was literally created by Niantic whose CEO (John Hanke) is a CIA agent, whose funding comes from CIA's venture capital arm (In-Q-Tel), and is linked to the CIA-funded Keyhole program (now Google Earth) which dealt with mass satellite surveillance, and which accidentally turned on all kinds of surveillance permissions in its app.

I don't believe that this is any kind of surveillance conspiracy, but it's a beautiful conspiracy theory foundation. So much better than chemtrails.

Pixar created its most complex character for 'Finding Dory'

Here's what was possible 9 years ago.

It might look like they're doing the same thing, but no. Hank has to do far more, for far longer, far more slowly. Fast action scenes can hide a lot of your rig's limitations because an animator only has to get it right for a few frames, but Hank has to ACT. Dramatically. While everyone's staring at him. Artician is right, anything would have been possible with enough animator sweat, but you wouldn't sustain for a feature character.

Pixar created its most complex character for 'Finding Dory'

Why do you say that's not true? I'm guessing they mean one of two things, both of which are plausible:

1: the hardware wasn't fast enough, i.e. it wasn't possible to render Hank in a reasonable timeframe. Remember, GPUs in particular are several orders of magnitude faster now than they were in 2003.

2: the software wasn't written. Almost certainly true, but not exactly accurate to say that it "wasn't possible with the technology".

Well... not really true, but it is quite good! I laughed out loud at the kitten poster gag.

The Problem of Evil: Crash Course Philosophy #13

ChaosEngine says...

The problem of evil is the "biggest problem in theism"?

No, the biggest problem in theism is that the concept of god is a paradox.

Omniscience, omnipotence, omnibenevolence.... they're all paradoxical.... the old "Can Jesus microwave a burrito so hot that he himself cannot eat it?".

Nothing we have learned in all of human advancement has ever demonstrated such a paradox.

As for the "problem of evil", no, Hank I won't be thinking about it. It's actually only a problem if you really want to believe in god. For the rest of us, it's just another nail in the coffin of religion.

Why Avocados Shouldn't Exist

MilkmanDan says...

I felt the same way at first, but he's kinda growing on me. (quick google search says his name is Michael Aranda)

Scishow being under the same umbrella as the Vlogbrothers, one inevitably ends up comparing him to John and Hank Green. And, well, he doesn't.

BUT, as awesome as those guys are, it took some time for them to develop their "instant gravitas" ability, and they only have so much time to devote to Vlogbrothers and associated stuff. So, I'm kinda willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt and think he can develop into another very good presenter.

Maybe.

Love the content, hate the hipster presenting it. Could barely get through it, despite the killer story.

John Green's Fiery Race Car Disaster

This is John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, front man for the Mental Floss youtube channel and one half of the vlogbrothers (along with his brother Hank).
