I'm having a hard time imagining the case where wearing a seat belt is going to make you have better control of your car after a collision.

Your moral case, for wearing a seatbelt, while personally compelling, doesn't mean the government should be controlling that activity for individuals. Being selfish is usually not a crime.

There is shared risk if you look deep enough in all activities that people engage in throughout their lives. Newtboy's assertion that these types of activities should be regulated because of their knock-on effects doesn't seem practical in a "free" society.

The reason I don't understand why this is a law is because the affects to society are so low and are similar to many other unregulated choices people are allowed to make. The inconsistency is painful.

If your car rolls over or you go sideways into a tree it helps keep you from back, head and neck injuries which could leave you with pain and mobility issues long after the crash. I also see it as being very selfish to your family and loved ones who potentially may have to care for you if you survive, in which case you will be very annoyed and annoying.

It should be mandated by government because some people think they are the best drivers ever.

This was a case of no crime, no suspect, but a helicopter THOUGHT a red pickup truck was chasing a purple mustang, and there might have been a collision, but none was reported, ever, no injuries, no victim, no call to police, indeed no crash, no hit and run. The victim had no gun, one was found later in the house and it sounds like they planted it in his car, probably on body camera.
Put him in gen pop, along with the other officers that backed up his lies. Another instance where every officer involved is a lying accomplice to murder and should be in prison for life without parole or special treatment just like citizens who murder a cop and stage the scene to justify an unjustifiable shooting should be.

Looking up at speed, especially if there was a curve could derail the train. That train was at speed and even if the engineer locked it up it would have been the same result. Another reason why the brakes might not be engaged is that the engineer ducked down into a part of his cab that is a bit more safe... remember those guys take the brunt of these types of collisions sometimes. I really feel for the poor truck driver... he sounds like his livelihood just vanished and he is realizing it.

Happened Friday in Oklahoma. For anyone curious:

The driver and his dog were "shaken up" but uninjured in the collision, the sheriff's office said. Five people on board the train were transported to two area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff said.

I just had an idea - instead of storing crashed cars in junkyards, use them as highway dividers. They are already tested for head-on collisions, and when someone crashes into it, can just leave the freshly-crashed car there as more filler (drain the fluids).

How To NOT Use A Roundabout

lived and drove in Qatar for a few years - there were many 3-lane in and 3-lane-out roundabouts. (also drove in UAE where it was the same). You are supposed to yield to those cars already in the roundabout. Several of the roundabouts also had red-lights (aka "signals", aka "robots"). Left lane is for going left (3rd exit on a 4-way roundabout). Middle lane was for going straight (2nd exit). Right lane was for going right (1st exit). Usually works fine once you're used to it. You aren't supposed to change lanes inside the roundabout, and use your right turn signal when you are exiting (and crossing lanes to exit). If you are maintaining speed and people are yielding and exiting as they should, no collisions.
Trickier roundabouts are those with more than 4 exits, or with additional "slip roads".
On the straight roads, there's no notion of fast-lane or passing lane. But if there's a Land Cruiser tailgating you and flashing their high-beams, change lanes. It's not personal, or road rage, the locals just like to drive fast (and often in any lane in the roundabouts)
Another difference between driving in USA is that green means go, in any direction... whereas in US, left turn is yield on green, unless there's a green arrow.

One of the most chilling and heartbreaking ATC conversations I ever heard was from the pilot of a PSA heavy immediately after a mid-air collision. His jet was doomed, and when he made transmission, it was nose down and screaming towards earth. He simply said:
"Call the equipment."

Did you even read this bit,

"The partial rollover presents an additional injury risk beyond what the standard crash test criteria are intended to measure"

I'm only discounting some things it because it's irrelevant to the point which is you stating rolls or "flops" are better than an arbitrary situation that generally doesn't exist and certainly isn't the other option to a roll in this test.

Yes, but they measured impact and g forces non the less. See the results? Notice they're all green "g"s? Notice it wasn't a fail on injuries, or g forces, but on their baseless notion that any roll, no matter how slow and safe, is unacceptable.

Now I'm done here. Your obstinance and silly best case vs worst case with zero evidence, then decrying my lack of rollover test data, is maddening and not at all worth this effort to prove something you believe is wrong, especially since you discount a 50-1 g force impact. Bye bye
