>> ^rebuilder:
Ah, the Russians. What fine people, and how gloriously fucked up!
Can Russians smile?

Spain's Stolen Babies
To think this was going on in Spain, just next door, is disgusting.
Fortunately for us, Salazar was a choir boy compared to the rest of european dictators.
Chris Hedges Lays Into Obama
@NetRunner
I wanted and want the same things, although it wasn't so clearly realized in my mind. You are a very good writer and elucidate very well, especially, I think, to those of us inclined to stream-of-consciousness ranting.
I'll give over on health care somewhat. I've mentioned elsewhere that I'm somewhat pessimistic in nature, and I admit to being of the mind/club that anything short of single payer was a failure. It will (eventually) help millions of people who need it, if it survives, but I still don't think it was the HUGE change that I alluded to above. Change that would catch us up to the rest of the industrialized world. This whole conservative notion that Medicare for everyone is a restrictive government takeover of health care is ludicrous. Imagine living life and not having to worry that health issues will financially waylay your life or that of your family. That's more freedom. My employer pays almost $1300 a month for health insurance just for me. Who, besides insurance companies, wouldn't benefit from lower payments?
Anyhooo... I'll stop there. Preaching, choir, etc.
Good talk.
Here Comes the Sun - It's all right!?! Um, no. Not really.
What a horrible application of the song.
I am absolutely part of the choir when it comes to bringing attention to the rampant environmental degradation, but this song directly feeds the kind of depression that leads to inaction. ..which contrasts pretty starkly with the message of hope and perseverance of the song.

I know it is preaching to the choir, but better than no preaching at all.
Kim: Youngest Person To Have Gender Reassignment Surgery
I so want to punch that "chatholic ethicist" repeatedly, but luckily for him he is half a world away and I am a pacifistic and moral person.
Can't we just agree that every person can do (or let do) whatever he/she/it wants to his own body? Who gave anyone the right to interfere with the body of someone else without their consent? This mindset would eliminate quite a lot of humanity's problems.
...but, I'm preaching to the choir.
A Capella / Choir version of Van Halen's JUMP!
>> ^ChaosEngine:
seriously, learn a fuckin' instrument.
Buddy, did you miss the title? It wouldn't be A Capella if they were playing instruments... (sheesh)
A Capella / Choir version of Van Halen's JUMP!
I have little doubt that anybody viewing this hasn't heard of this choir's interpretation of Toto's "Africa"....But I have NOT heard this before, so......

MSNBC Analyses Police Assault On "Occupy Wall St." Protester
The way this is framed it will only preach to the choir, which is a real shame since I think an injustice was done.
Olbermann on the "Media Blackout" of Occupy Wall Street
No, not paid or "artificial".. Just impotent and without any directive or strategy.. Truth is, I don't know, and posted the article to find out...
"What are the objectives of this protest? How does it intend to accomplish them? Is it preaching to the choir, or will it actually convert fence sitters?"

is it too cynical to think the entire movement is pretty much a smokescreen?
You think these people were...paid I'm guessing? I don't understand disinformation doesn't really understand either but that's not surprising.
Priest Argues Against Teaching Creationism
Church of England is religion lite. My family still goes to church most Sundays, hell I used to sing in the choir but none of us are religious. They, like most others, go for the sense of community rather than any fear of God. This priest's opinions are pretty typical, most are liberal and progressive. They believe in God, but seem to have more or less buried the bible in pinches of salt. I wonder when they will realise that they need neither holy scripture OR a divine being in order to have a Church.
Honestly, we have gay priests, female priests...how long before an atheist priest?
Las Vegas Police Beating Caught On Tape
>> ^eric3579:
It is sad and upsetting that there are so many police brutality sifts, and to the point of them seeming redundant. I however get extremely angry every time I see one, and sometimes feel the need to give it the most exposure I can. If you feel it unnecessary to watch another police brutality video, I would skip over the one titled "Las Vegas Police Beating Caught On Tape". Just Saying.

I'm sorry you're annoyed by the amount of police brutality videos on the sift. Police brutality can be so annoying and inconvenient.
>> ^Sarzy:
Wow, a police brutality video! I've never seen one of those on the sift!
Well, aren't these videos getting a bit redundant at this point? We all get it. Cops can be dicks. Cops abuse their power. Is there anyone left on the sift who doesn't get that at this point?
I think this is what is known as preaching to the choir.
Fair enough. I still think that submitting videos designed to provoke the exact same anger and sadness that the last dozen brutality videos provoked strikes me as vaguely Sisyphean, but to each his own I guess.
