Michio Kaku on California earthquakes as Russian Roulette...

greatgooglymoogly says...

A 3% annual risk does not translate to a 100% risk in the next 30 years. For such a smart guy, that's a pretty basic mistake to make, and just makes the public mistrust the "experts" even more when their predictions don't come true.

Vox: The Green New Deal, explained

bobknight33 says...

A fools paradise, The ultimate "boy that cried wolf" BS.

This has been going on since the 70's Teh sky is falling.

The 7 Biggest Failures of Trumponomics

newtboy says...

Yes, you have. You probably thought you were being complimentary or empathetic. Edit: At least that was my assumption, and why I didn't complain.

A: Severe population control....preferably 30+ years ago. Today, it requires a massive cull and birth control. Maximum human population capped at 1 billion, preferably less.

Clearly you don't hear me....you hear what you want to hear, like this phantom SOS. You just have Sting constantly playing in the background and are insistent it's me putting that message in a bottle, no matter how often I tell you it's not.
Remember, the Nostromo assumed they heard an SOS too....didn't work out well that time. ;-)

BSR said:

LOL, come on now, I've never called you names before. Sticks and stones.

So what is your answer to the problem?

I suspect you see the the problem but are at a loss for the answer. Seems you grow frustrated and angry because no one hears you.

I hear you. Your heart sent out an SOS. I'm on your side. I need your pen.

What Happens To Good Cops?

newtboy says...

Forgiven? Absolutely not. Forgiveness without any indication of remorse is acceptance, and his actions were and are unacceptable.
30+ years ago. I would bet he doesn't remember it, seemed like a normal everyday thing for him to violently threaten someone's life, then threaten their safety and freedom if they dared to complain.
It also seemed that he accepted zero responsibility for his mistake or actions, like most cops, something his superiors obviously agreed with. It was somehow my fault he misread my clean license plate, so what would he have to regret?

I learned that day that it's not just individual bad cops, it's top down criminality and disdain for citizens.

Anger and mistrust are proper when you've been abused and threatened and had your trust violated violently....more so when the system totally fails to address it.

If he's Moby, I'm Queequeg, not Ahab. I learned police are dangerous, dishonest, and filled with contempt for those they're duty bound to protect and serve. I didn't turn my life into a vendetta against them, but I sure as fuck know sperm whales are dangerous and will ruin your entire day, and should be avoided when possible and never trusted.

Have you forgiven the cop that put a gun to your head and saved your life and his by not pulling the trigger?

I wonder where he is today and if he truly regrets and is sorry for his actions at that time. It's been awhile hasn't it?

90s Anti-Drug Ad Gets A Redo - Your Brain On Drug Policy

newtboy says...

It's a good thing I'm white, because I did get caught illegally growing "drugs" at 18, was offered "drug diversion" which was 4 hours watching film strips about drugs and 6 months of lax probation, then my record was expunged with no felony....not even a fine, just $200 for the program fees.

I seriously doubt I would have gotten the same treatment if I wasn't a white college student at the time.

Because of that special treatment, I managed to keep my charge a secret from even my mother until this Xmas when I finally told her.... 30 years after the fact. I know others who went to prison for longer than my probation over a joint....in another state.

Delaware State Trooper Pulls Gun on Black Man For Speeding

newtboy says...

I spent 25-30 years waiting, hoping, expecting those good cops to toss out the bad ones and be the upright pillars of our communities they take credit for being. I was sorely disappointed and decided I better change my assessment and expectations.

That doesn't mean all cops are bad people, many are outstanding people. It means they are part of a culture that puts even terrible workmates above the public and the law they enforce, and that, by their own definition, makes them as guilty as the known criminal cops they harbor.
I can only blame the police leadership and unions for protecting police criminals instead of the public, and the current fight about misconduct investigation records only highlights it's an ongoing and worsening issue. They should want total transparency so the public knows the police aren't harboring and protecting rapists and brutal thugs. That would make the job safer and easier too.

I don't think I'm giving the bad cops power, I'm recognizing the reality that the bad cops apparently run the show and make their own rules whenever possible, including investigating themselves in secret when they're caught breaking them.

Foolish test subject, that was a hologram of cake.

BSR said:

That wasn't clear in your original response. If your intention was to rope in the good cops because you see the odds stacked against them and there is little hope for them, what does that say about the power you give to the bad cops?

It's been said this is the place where all your dreams can come true. Whether it's being a cop, fireman, soldier, father, and even a natural born killer or worse yet, Donald Trump. *snort*

Be careful what you dream and make it come true. Watch more Pixar.

OH! And eat more cake. It's not a lie. I saw it myself. Life is short.

Let's Talk About Teaching the Bible In School

newtboy says...

In Trig/pre calc, my teacher insisted I was a cheater because I tested great but didn't do homework or pay much attention in class, so she separated me during a test...the class average dropped significantly but not my score, I never had to do trig homework after that day. That said, don't ask me trig questions now, I haven't used it in nearly 30 years. ;-)

Kind of....they all seemed to think that there is a hidden unknowable, and they alone had the unknowable deciphered and other theories about it were just mistaken.
Some eastern religions sure seemed more like just philosophies, like Tao, but they all seemed fairly self certain that they alone had the solution to the ultimate question.....but we all know that answer is 42, and not one of them came up with that end sum, so they're all undeniably wrong and so easily dismissed as fable, fantasy, or disguised political tools.

Trump Thrives on Cruelty

The first part is something that a person told me over 30 years ago. I was told it comes from witchcraft.

The second line is what I've learned over next 33 years.

Vicious Dog Pack Attack

newtboy says...

You joke, but if the planet is to survive, something similar is necessary....but I suggest a more pure IQ test than political or entertainment affiliation.

I'm all for one in one out, so much that I got fixed with no kids, but there's no need for test tubes.....why take the fun out? Just snip parents after their first baby. That takes out far more than 1/2 the population in one lifespan without culling anyone. If we had done that 30 years back, we might not be in the mess we're in. Now we do need a good culling.

NaMeCaF said:

I'm all for putting people down. We need a great culling of the human population. Lets start with a Thanos like 50% to begin with and then see about putting in some factors like people who watch the Kardashians or think Trump or any other celebrity make great candidates for President. We should also make humans sterile and have a 1 out, 1 in policy with test tube babies.

And the death of his wife for a Discovery special...and he keeps doing this?

and his life story is about being bullied and then becoming the bully?

and yes, the girls segment???

Is the retro thing some sort of weird attempt to go back to a time when his wife was around, young, and well and the death in the Discovery special is still 30 years away?

Apple under fire for allegations of controversial business

bobknight33 says...

I've been in the medical field service business for 30 years. Fixing / installing Cathlabs, Vascular labs,X ray, Mamo and Ultrasound systems.

The battery or such does not cost an arm or a leg. Its the R&D that goes into it. Its the supply chain warehousing parts and the tax on inventory and all that other stuff like profit.

As far as 3rd party servicing. Apple will loose and have to make their service documents/ tools available. Those tools can be different - but come to the same results.

It is in the OEM interests to keep 3rd party service away for many reasons, not just to hoard more business.

We do provide service manuals and parts to 3Rd party. no problem. They are on the web just to get them.

As far as ripping the customer off. That's wrong. Apple will need to address this. I would not think that is common.

Of Course I'm Trying To Indoctrinate You In My Beliefs

bobknight33 says...

Liberals have been marching loudly past 30 years not tip towing.
So much so a Christian can not show faith at work, they are shamed in public. One could argue the opposite, Its time for Christian to stand up.

Also same to politics. Trump supporters get beaten up, insulted in public. One can't wear MEGA hat to events ( except Trumps) , or Starbucks.. That's not Liberals tip toeing around its full on frontal assault.

Leftists Will Carry Out Targeted Killings Of Republicans

newtboy says...

Maybe not, but there are plenty of angry, moronic, gullible 30 year olds in militias who hear this as a "self defense" defense to attempted murder. They really don't need much encouragement....just ask the Bundies supporters or Charlottesville skinheads.

Are there really enough 80 year olds who remember violent communist revolutionaries for this to be effective fear mongering?
