Since this is Obama central...(racist, bigoted content ahead)

I could use some help.
Yes, I am a republican, and no, Obama is not my candidate. I'm still rootin' for Paul. But even I can sense bullshit when I read it.

This is an email that was forward to me, and I hate shit like this, so I could use a proper response, yet I just don't know how to write one.

(email start)

"God help us if this man is elected!! But it is all stated in the Bible and it will happen sooner or later. This is from Darlene Millican, wife of the pastor of Trinity Bapt. Church here in Sun City . I have felt for sometime now that Obama is the one person that 'Frightens Me'. I believe the Bible has warned us that 'A man will come from the East that will be charismatic in nature and have proposed solutions for all our problems and his rhetoric will attract many supporters!' When will our pathetic Nation quit turning their back on God and understand that this man is 'A Muslim'....First, Last and always....and we are AT WAR with the Muslim Nation, whether our bleeding-heart, secular, Liberal friends believe it or not. This man fits every description from the Bible of the 'Anti-Christ'! I'm just glad to know that there are others that are frightened by this man!

Who is Barack Obama?
Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice. If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it.

snopes.com
<http://snopes.com>' confirms this is factual. Check for yourself.

Who is Barack Obama?
Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack
Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu ,
Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM
from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHEIST from Wichita , Kansas.
Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya . His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia . When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocate to Indonesia. Obama attended nbsp;a MUSLIM school in Jakarta . He also spent two
years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim . He is quick to point out that, 'He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school.'

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that that he is not a radical. Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta.
Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran. Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance nor will he show any
reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Do you want someone like this as your PRESIDENT? Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy.
The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own! The Bible says 'He will come from among you!'
> Please forward to everyone you know.
> Would you want this man leading our country?
>
> NOT ME!!!
>
>
> WITHOUT GOD, WE ARE NOTHING!!!"

(email end)
Ok, that was copied verbatim, and the only editing I did was to get rid of all the ">" characters and to delete erroneous spaces in the middle of words.

So what the fuck? Even I know he's a Christian, and has been attending the same church for 20 years, so it's not like he converted right before announcing his candidacy.

ANd turning his back on the flag during the nation anthem/pledge of allegiance? I've never heard of that. And so fucking what if he doesn't wear the lapel pin. I like that he doesn't - that's the same thing as slapping a yellow ribbon on your SUV and calling it a day.

Could someone who knows a little more about Obama craft a response for me? I hate stupid morons that make other Christians/republicans/Christian republicans look bad like this.

Oh, and gotta love how they feel it necessary to point out his middle name every chance they get, eh? I mean, seriously - Obama was born almost two decades before Saddam got into office! Excuse the fuck out of him for having what is a VERY common name. (Farhad - care to lend any credibility to that claim?)
It would be like calling any German man with the name "Adolph" and evil bastard and a Nazi. But before Hitler did his thing, it was just another German name.
Shit, by that logic, our very own Lucky 760 is a Nazi. His name is Rommel, fer cris'sakes.

I hate stupid people and need a good pwning dose of smackdown.

Mk. I just read the Snopes article about him and the Anthem - And I'll tell you that sometimes I don't even put my hand over my heart - I usually take the time that the anthem is being played to reflect on all the sacrifices that have been made for us to be able to even have the pledge of allegiance/National anthem. I'll punch the first motherfucker to say a word to me about it, too.

MG, you might want to block quote that e-mail as it looked like you wrote it. Or at least quote it.

Hussein is a common name in the middle east. Not as much as Ahmed or Mohamed though.

This email circulation is part of a wider movement to paint Obama as something he is not, notice the tell tale fear markers:

- Possible terrorist.
- Hates America.
- Muslim.
- Might be the anti-christ.

It's vapid and stupid and classic Rovian style attacks on a man's character. It makes all Americans look bad.

With regards to the anethem, flag and whatever, those are merely symbols, I never respect symbols.

We do not defend a country for the sake of a flag or a paper because there are finite objects that cannot encompass the nation and it's people, we defend it for ideals which are immortal and do not end with wearing a flag pin, salutations or pledges.

Bush and Cheney wore a flag pin, put their hand on their hearts, saluted the flag and teared for anthem. While all the while dismantling what the US stands for, and sending young people to die.

MarineGunrock says...

Ok - I simply replied with this, as the Snopes article does most of the pwning for me:

"Don't believe everything you read in an email people. If you really agree with any of this, you're just bigoted. The really funny part is that the email told you to check out Snopes.com - and Snopes has an article about this very email forward. Read it or forever hold your silence. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp"

"I'm just glad to know that there are others that are frightened by this man!"

That line encompasses most of the problem with this type of thinking. It comes off like they need something to fear because they are too uniformed to understand what is going on in the world around them. Ignorance breads fear and opens them up to any information that lands in their inbox that confirms their preexisting bias.

I'm the network admin at my company and I am always chasing down these types of mass emails and debunking them. When I demonstrate to the person the inaccuracy of the email I am often meet with a resounding shoulder shrug. "Oh well. Who cares?" People hate to be show how their preconceptions might be wrong. They don't think there is anything wrong with propagating false or misleading information.

I've been in the exact same situation as you and your right. People just love forwarding emails that support the way they think or tear down the things they are against without doing any research into the emails accuracy. 99% of the time when I point out that what the email is saying is false or has no credible evidence to support it I never get a response back...I never see that person send out an apology to all the people they sent the email to explaining that the email was wrong.

In fact...most of those people just no longer include me on their email list when they forward this crap because they would rather live in ignorance that the email supports their view then risk the chance that I will supply them with information that says the email is bullshit.

Amen MGR, I've been thinking the same about those emails since my heavily republican grandparents send me 2-3 of the same ones everyday. It makes me sick. Yes I support Obama myself, but even if I didn't you won't see me spreading stuff like that. It's crap like this that gives America it's stereotype ignorance. To me these e-mails are a scapegoat for people to avoid stating that they are either racist or have some other superficial problem with Obama but that if they can find a way to shove religion in front of those views it will hold more weight.

Flag salutes, lapel pins, what the hell is the US degenerating to. Oh nooes, he didn't wear the official color of thong today, he's clearly the anti-christ. Somebody throw some garlic on him!

This is clearly not aimed at anyone with an IQ over 40, but sadly it hits home in the pretty big republican base. (heh, sorry, that was an easy jab, stupidity is an equal opportunity employer)

from the e-mail:

oh, is that what you believe the bible warns you of?
because, if you actually read it, i think you'd have a hard time finding that citation.

wanna' know what source i think you're actually getting that laughably vague prophecy from?
Nostradamus.

so, break out your divining rod, and tell me what part of this planet isn't "from the East", if you just keep going East?
