Thank God for dead soldiers? Thank God for 9/11? For AIDS?

Shirley Phelps of the Westboro cult..er, "church" appears on Hannity and Colmes for all of America to be disgusted with. The Holocaust was minuscule? WTF!?!?

The only thing that really amazes me about this is that they didn't manage to get that woman to announce she was a democrat or a hilary clinton supporter or something.

Thats free speech for ya. Louis Theroux had a great documentary where he went and hung out with them. Seems this lady had an illegitimate child in her youth, I have no problem with that but it does seem to make her a tad hypocritical, what with the fire and brimstone old time-e religion buzz

A few of my friends and I had a personal run-in with Fred Phelps and his "church" (and by church I mean inbred family) years back. The man can rot in hell. Until then, I look at him as a testament to the strong foundation of freedom that our nation provides - in so many other places, he would never be allowed the chance to breathe, much less spout his insane babble. Other than that, I've come to believe that the best thing is to just ignore him. Nobody really takes him seriously, and it's only a matter until Darwin comes for him and his spawn, and giving him more air time is just giving him what he wants.

Do you know what's even worse? Most of the things the Westboro cult says are well supported by scripture that most self-described Christians have not read.

For example:
Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Numbers 31, Deuteronomy 17:12, Leviticus 20:10, Leviticus 21:9, Exodus 22:19, 2 Chronicles 15:12-13, Deuteronomy 13:13-19, Deuteronomy 22:20-21, Deuteronomy 13:7-12, Deuteronomy 17:2-5, Romans 1:24-32, Jeremiah 48:10

Why do they bother calling themselves Fox "News". News should be presented in a completely unbiased manner to allow the viewer to critically think about the issue. When you call your interviewee "nutty", you aren't reporting *news*; you are reporting opinion. Fox Opinion is what they should call themselves. And before the uptight right-wingers of this site take this a personal attack (and they will, with their own impaired reasoning), this applies to ABC, CNN, any so-called news outlet.

Just present the facts and let me voice the opinion. That's what *REAL* news outlets do.

hey wait a minute, when hannity mentions that the soilders putting their lives on the line for the country i first presumed he meant USA, then i realized he ofcourse meant Irak. yay! good samaritans (if they're not in it for the free ipods)

not that i support the "angel-of-death" lady, she is the proof of a wrathfull god. (i dont really know how to spell wrathfull)

Jwray is along the lines of what I was thinking.

As unbelievable as it may seem, she and her group really are taking the entirety of the bible's contents as "the word of God," just as God said his followers must. It's actually everyone else who claims to be a follower of Jesus but disregards all of the "blue" parts of that book who is less on the mark as far as proper Jesus worship goes. (But of course that doesn't bother them, as their faith requires as much. "Your god is always right even when he contradicts himself and even though he's unable to contradict himself because he is a perfect being who makes no mistakes, but is at the same time flawed.")

Avoiding a lengthy debate over whether Christianity is "right" or not:
Bottom line is these people hold "God Hates [group of people]" signs and that is not biblically consistent. God hates no one. God hates sin, but loves every sinner nonetheless, and no one is without sin. I'm sure He even loves these crazy people despite their hateful ways. God has made it clear in the bible that He does not approve of homosexual behavior, but it is a sin like any other. Anyone who points a finger at a sinner better be aware of the other four pointing back at themselves.
Also, much of the Law is meant to reveal to each person that they cannot meet God's natural standards, thus they require salvation from the consequences which is exactly what Christ provided. The Law is not a measuring stick to use to see how righteous you are. This cult apparently doesn't understand that.

Wow... I have never seen religion used to actually contradict the beliefs of a Faux News "reporter". I almost have to give them props for this... except that it's all a grand stand stunt and not actually news.

Doc_m brings up a point which I never understood about the religious peoples' beef with homosexuality (or the sinful group of the day): Isn't god supposed to love everyone? If he (she?) exists, and you follow his/her rules as prescribed in the holy book, why the violent hatred towards those that are perceived as "sinners". Aren't you supposed to hate the sin, not the sinner? Like Doc said, in the eyes of the religious, we're ALL sinners, so just to be consistent, you best dish out some violent hatred towards yourself and not play God by deciding who's sins are worse than others.

As for the specimen being interviewed, I doubt many people here agree with her. It's interesting, however, to see some Faux News folks come out in the open and say they disagree with the war in Iraq ( link @ -0:49). It's not long ago that they would have been burned at the stake for saying such "Blasphemy" which "doesn't support the troops". I really doubt there is anyone who doesn't support the troops. It's their LEADERS we don't support. By questioning our government, we SUPPORT our troops, for if the leaders have nothing to hide, then they should not fear the people's inquisition of their actions.

It is not possible to love a person and at the same time advocate the loved one should be executed. There are literally hundreds of lines in the Bible prescribing capital punishment for things that we would view as minor offenses or not offenses at all.

The following are crimes punishable by death according to the OT:
Ignoring or Disobeying Priests (Deuteronomy 17:12)
Being a Witch (Exodus 22:17)
Working on the Sabbath (Exodus 31:12-15)
Following a different religion (Exodus 22:19)
Nonbelief (2 Chronicles 15:12-13)
Blasphemy (Leviticus 24:10-16)
Fornication (Leviticus 21:9)
Not being a virgin on wedding night (Deuteronomy 22:20-21)
Homosexuality (Leviticus 20:13)
Insulting a Prophet (Kings 2:23-24)
Having a father who was a sinner (Isaiah 14:21)
Having a person in your town who worships another god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19)

It is impossible to read the whole bible with a sane mind and believe that the fictional overlord therein really loved everyone that he smote with eternal torture in hell. It has been said that the Old Testament is much harsher than the New, but this is incorrect because it is only in the New Testament that the concept of eternal torture in Hell appears. It's time for moderate Christians to start calling this ancient fairy-tale nonsense what it is and switch to the Jefferson bible. One can find a better examination of moral questions in other great works of literature.

Totally agree.

The absolute certainty of her words, and the look in her eyes, is almost psychopathic.'

She's the bitch that would set people on fire.
