The machinery of the drone war is too big to curtail

The Justice Department's leaked "White Paper Memo" surfaced, detailing legal justification for drone strikes, killing American citizens, and other constitutional powers of the president that were once thought of as unthinkable.

Does the Obama administration have the power to do whatever it wants to whomever it wants without concrete justification?

David Sirota (Writer, Political Analyst) breaks down what the memo means, whatever happened to due process, and whether the problem is "too big to curtail" -- YT

Due process is a nebulous term that legalese speakers can twist and turn whichever way they need. The law informs you of what is not allowed and in doing so tacitly informs you of what is allowed. Obama skates that thin edge with the best of them.

So are you saying that as long as they say it isn't allowed, its allowed?

I don't care what they say, I care what they do. Obama has been worse on this than Bush. He's sentencing people to death, and their neighbors, without trial. There are ways of dealing with terror, probably the most effective way is to not commit terror yourself. The other ways are pursuing criminal action and addressing legitimate grievances.

If you don't address legitimate grievances, as with the IRA, you might as well pack it in because you're now in an unwinnable constant war that sooner or later you'll have to pay for. Hopefully there will be a democratic upheaval in this country and we can stop the crimes being committed in our name.

A Former FBI Special Agent Ali Soufan was on Colbert Report.
Here is a not verbatim, shortened version of the interview:

Colbert: What do you think about US-citizens being killed by drones without a trial?
Soufan: As long as they are threat to America (terrorists), it's OK.
[audience shouting and cheering]
Colbert: How do I get of the list?
Soufan: After we've killed you.
Colbert: There is no other way?
Soufan: Yes

What a piece of shit. I just watched this and I'm just shocked at how this human being can operate under such contradictions. Maybe we should ask Agent Ali Soufan about the American citizens son, a 14 year old boy who was killed by a drone the following week. Specifically targeted because he "might" become a threat to the United States.

I didn't think Obama could do it but he took us from bad to worse. Impeach the mother fucker.

I wish there were a way to ask this without sounding belligerent, but what better foreign policy towards Pakistan and it's tribal areas would be recommended in absence of the current drone program?
