Making assumptions - a "regular" car is $40k and gets 30 mpg; average miles driven/yr is 12,000 miles; gas is $3/gallon. It would only take 110 years for the savings in gas $ to break even with the additional outlay of $130k for this vehicle. Oh well, nothing's perfect!

Gas is $3/gallon now. Wait a couple of years for oil to go back to $150/barrel, and for India to get the Tata Nano in decent numbers, and then check that calculation again

Besides, every prototype costs a lot. It's the process of mass-production of a car that reduces it's price significantly.

Quick American Car companies, kill this one as well. Fuel efficient cars that last longer and driver further on a tank of gas, can't have that. /cynicism off.

Living in New England at the moment; I haven't seen below $3.50 per gallon in *years*, and is positively, definitely more like $3.97 per gallon right now.
