Senator Ludlam welcomes Tony Abbott to WA

Western Australia Greens Senator Scott Ludlam (minor center left party, U.S. has no equivalent party) welcomes our right wing Prime Minister to Western Australia for a state byelection, because every time he opens his mouth the green vote goes up!

The byelection was called after 1400 votes disappeared during a recount, and the Senate election was declared void.

Just a guess, but maybe the capitol of Western Australia (which I'm assuming is a 'state')...senate chamber? So sad that they seem to have emulated our (US) congress in attendance and respect.

For clarification, from where is he speaking and to whom?... the room seems entirely empty.

Also it sounds very much like the American Green Party.

@Januari like @newtboy said, Western Australia is one of the states of Australia founded in 1829, achieved self government in 1890, and joined the federation 11 years later with the rest of the country. At 2.5 million square kilometres is 3.6 times the size of Texas, but only represents approx 10% of Australia's population.

The Grauniad reports that the speech was delivered at 10.08pm on Monday the 3rd of March, and that just one other senator, Liberal Helen Kroger, was present at the time of delivery.

I'm quite sure this speech was intended for the television/youtube audience and not the few people actually present.

p.s. Having read that article, there is a clue to location since Senator Kroger is a federal and not a state senator.

Might be one of those kind of assemblies where the other MLAs can walk over and bitchslap you if you diss them. If the other guy was bigger than me, I'd be tempted to speachify in the middle of the night too.
