smileysays...Wow... Magic Coke!
pumkinandstormsays...Cool indeed! *doublepromote
siftbotsays...Double-Promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Monday, July 23rd, 2012 5:51pm PDT - doublepromote requested by pumkinandstorm.
aimpointsays...isn't this also a beer trick where they tap the bottle and it freezes?
spoco2says...Cool. I was initially concerned that it'd have to have something nasty in it to do this, but what it seems is actually happening is that because the coke is stored under pressure, it can be kept below its normal freezing temperature without it actually freezing. Then when you open it and mix it around, you've released the pressure and it can now freeze.
The taking a swig is presumably just to make room for the expansion on freezing.
At lease this seems to be the explanation.
brycewi19says...Fine, Coke, take my money.
Just bring it to the States ASAP.
spawnflaggersays...I had this in Taiwan a few years ago (was only available at 1 machine, I guess was a test/demo unit). It doesn't taste exactly the same - somewhere between coke and coke zero. The ice doesn't last too long when it's >35C outside; the "fizz" (carbonation) seems to run out faster than regular bottled coke; and it costs more.
So yeah, a neat novelty item, but won't replace regular Pop/Soda vending machines.
kymbossays...So that's... very cold Coke, right?
Wow.

Along with this it may be a form of supercooling and when the bottle is open, nucleation (the bubbles formed by the CO2, for everyone that doesn't know what I'm saying) begins to allow ice crystals to form in the water that is already below freezing in the storage machine.
Lolthiensays...You can do this with water or anything other liquid. Just store it in a pressurized container and then store it at just under it's freezing temperature. The swig I'm sure is only to make room to keep it from expanding out the top of the bottle.
you can do this at home in your freezer.

antsays...*asia
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Asia) - requested by ant.
Sagemindsays...We used to do this all the time with beer. Pull out the ice cold beers and knock the bottom of your beer on the top of someone else's and their bottle freezes solid making it undrinkable.
We'd do this at the bar all the time with friends. You always had to protect your beer for the first minute or so after you bought it. Oone of us would conk the other persons - it was a childish game but always worth a laugh!
This only works when the beer is cold enough so you had to do it right away. it also depended on the chilling temperature of the cooler they were pulled from.
quantumushroomsays...Aren't the Cokes already sitting in a machine that could get them that cold? Talk about lazy.
sillmasays.....you can chill liquids BELOW zero celsius?!
articiansays...Remember when foreign tourists would come to the US, and the US folk would kind of chuckle at their humble amazement of things we took for granted, but they had never seen before in their entire lives?
Yeah... How do you say the Chinese Pledge of Allegiance again?
Sagemindsays...Ya, I thought this only worked with beer because of the alcohol content - guess I was wrong.

kymbossays...Sagemind only drinks beer!
gwiz665says...Now this is what I call a thousand years of progress: A Bavarian cream dog that's also self-microwaving!

I think it's somewhere along the lines of "We're the biggest economy in the world these days and could buy the entire USA and still make a year on year profit."
Porksandwichsays...Cool that it freezes and all, but .......the mostly non-mixed frozen drinks taste like crap. All the water freezes, you drink all the syrup out that doesn't freeze. Then what you're left with is a very watered down drink, and if you are still thirsty you gotta buy something else or drink that that weird tasting watery drink.
The gas station chains that have the mixing frozen drink machines seem to fare better for me in the taste department. Dunno if it's the straw or the way it's mixed, but it doesn't taste super sweet at the beginning and doesn't taste like a watered down soda at the end.
entr0pysays...I don't know how well it works, but wikipedia lead me to this cheep product that's supposed to make it easy to supercool any bottled beverage.

I think this sort of idiot proofing is what I need to get it right; I always either somehow agitate the beer or cool it too much.
