This is why I hate Top Gear. Hybrids are designed for city driving and has a much lower highway fuel efficieny. It is not a race car and this is a false comparison.

Right...so we should have (2) cars. One for city, one for highway. Because 2 cars will lower our individual carbon footprint. YAY!

Well done, I've never seen the point missed by quite as much as you've just done.

I'm pretty smart...I get points. Here's one...why should we trust a program that has been completely against any sort of global warming or environmental effect evidence ever produced? I love Top Gear I watch it religiously sometimes over and over (I can't get enough of the Bolivia episode). Jeremy is considered a jerk by a lot of people...not by me, he's witty and clever even if I don't agree with him all the time. I don't agree with him here and ya know why...because he's not a scientist or an engineer and he's not presenting a case study that he's done. He's presenting a TV show which is supposed to be fun and he's injecting his ideas creative and biased as they are into his TV show.

Sorry but I don't go to Fox news to give me the skinny on the latest UN Global Warming report. Why would I go to Jeremy Clarkson for news on something he isn't obligated to report accurately or fairly?

Oh my god. TL;DR much? Seriously. The point was that it matters how you drive your vehicle. Obviously, the Prius was struggling and being pushed pretty hard. The BMW was merely trotting along. Now, if the two vehicles were driven at a relatively similar power output, the Prius would probably do better than the BMW.

They were being kind of snarky about it because the Prius is a piece of shit and it costs a ton to manufacture (not only monetarily), AND the fact that they are obviously big fans of fun-to-drive vehicles, which the Prius is not. That said, they did admit perfectly well that the cars were not being driven the same way at all, and that was the reason for the difference we see here. What's not seen in this video is the discussion in whole following this "test." Way to take shit out of context guys, and thus completely miss the fucking point. Wow.

And the batteries aren't environmentally friendly. They're very toxic, and dangerous to the Chinese peasants who pick through them to recycle the nickel.

I love seeing all the myopic groupthink douches driving them in LA with their self-righteous "I'm saving the planet" smug sense of self worth.

I tried to find a longer clip and I couldn't. What else did they say after this clip?

Eh, this is Top Gear. Rational people can easily see why the test doesn't tell you anything about the relative environmental impacts of construction or use.

@blankfist, I do own a Prius, though it's mintbbb's daily driver, not mine. Great car.

Oh, and BTW, Clarkson's pronunciation of Prius is actually intentionally wrong. The UK pronounces it the way we do.

He just wants to make it sound as close as possible to "priapism" as possible.
