In my days back in 80s, the doctor used a part of my right hip bone and added to my jaw. It didn't work well for me. I did hear today, they have these springs that would extend the jaws. I am not ready for another surgery (not urgent, but I can open my mouth wider and eat more now) since I had two major ones back in 1998 (see http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/surgery/surgery.html for details) and things didn't work well (lost nerves to feel and move in my right side of my face like closing my right eye lid, feeling, make faces).

This is why I believe so much in scientific progress, and I think things look good for the future.

Stem cell treatments harness the body's natural repair network, and every year we make concrete progress toward being able to grow any bones, tissues, and organs on demand. In time, the field won't have any need of controversial methods involving excess embryos from in vitro fertilization.

I'm not sure where the line for humor is here so I'm deleting my stupid and almost certainly offensive (but maybe funny) joke.

btw this wasn't about this kid .. or any unfortunate person suffering from this .. just a shot at mouthy teenagers in general. Geez I feel like a heartless bastard and I haven't done it yet. /delete! ack.

Sure Honkeytonk, I'll pray. What harm can it do? I like to think i can get the ear of the big magic man in the sky occasionally.

Here's some good news, the paypall account is closed. Hopefully it's because of this that I found on Kronosposeidon's link above...

** To date all of Alan's operation bills, amounting to almost $700,000 have been paid out entirely by the friends of Alan Doherty. We would like to thank everyone involved in fundraising and everyone who has kindly donated money so far and thank you all for your continued support, without which none of this would have been possible.**

Prayer's good. Cash kicks ass.
