What little consensus there is on youtube leans towards there being an imbedded piece of metal, a bolt or some such. The demo is supposed to show that this furnace can heat the metal to a high temperature without directly heating the ice...which is what induction furnaces -do- after all.

Truth is, the video doesn't give enough of a preliminary view or enough angles to be sure what's happening. The main piece of information you have to go by is that it happened at a trade show...any real cheating would tend to have some rather serious financial effects on the company.

That never stopped Nintendo, Microsoft, nVidia, and others from outright faking new products in the past.

(Still remembers the infamous "Nintendo 64" demo that was just a powerful SGI workstation under the table covered by a skirt)

I'm not sure it's reasonable to think that consumer reaction to video game console fakery is going to be equivalent to engineering company reactions to engineering fakery. One's a -whole- lot more serious than the other...
