Her Neighbor got a New Car - It Blows Flames.

Holy s....!!!

It could also potentially be the non supercharged RR "Meteor" version they made for tanks. In fact it's quite likely as they are easier to get hold of these days, Merlins are like rocking horse shit to find now as they are so iconic and sough after (air racers are partly to blame).

Griffons are noticeably longer but it's hard to say without a size reference or a shot of the naked engine. I'm inclined to agree and say no though, if nothing else a good Griffon is probably even harder to find than a Merlin.

Whichever version it's still about the most fking awesome engine ever made! Nothing sounds quite like them, even the top German stuff. Such a shame they can't/won't make them anymore, I'm sure there's a big market .

Merlin, right? Looks too small to be a Griffon...

You don't put a muffler on a 1500HP (ish) Merlin/Meteor engine man, it's sacrilegious!

I'm sure that's one of the ten commandments.... (if not it was clearly an oversight on God's part)

Someone should tell her neighbor about this new fangled invention called a muffler.

I can agree with that, but it's also sacrilegious to drive one in your neighborhood. I mean, I can run my Jeep with open headers and be a loud obnoxious dickhead that sets off car alarms as I pass too, but why? No problem with this on the track, at the show, or in his garage, but on the street it's not just obnoxious, it's dangerous...I'm certain that is loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage to anyone on the sidewalk or in the street...and that's bad...MmmmmK?

Agreed, though it depends on whether he just starts it up from time to time at reasonable times of day for testing etc.

If he's going cruising around the neighbourhood in the thing (more than once or twice when he just built it maybe) it's a different matter.

I've had plenty arguments with a friend about the frankly ludicrous (token) exhaust he want's to put on his bike. At some stage you have to consider other peoples hearing and peace of mind!

Hmmm, one wonders just who would be the type to call the cops on this 'scorge of the neighborhood'?....This contraption is only a problem if someone complains, it's most-likely not run much in the neighborhood and the guy probably has neighbors that know he's there and tinkering with his toys-

Now, accentuating exhaust on a car designed to run whisper-quiet like some rice-wine burner eco-car, just to impress ones shriveled balls and damaged ego?....
Silly-as-shit, you complete wanker.

No denying it's a damm fine engine of basically equal performance (give or take by year). I just feel that in comparison it's a little more clinical and lacks quite the same character as the Rolls Royce (not that it lacks character!). For me it's not quite as elegant looking either (Let's face it the Daimler is a bit of a black block).

Then again I guess I'm a little biased by nationality (not a fan of nationalism at all but little things like this can still get under ones skin).

I'm rather fond of the DB 605 myself.
