A look at the cultural significance of the original Gojira and its message in Japan, the sanitation of the American version of the original 1954 movie, not readily seen in the US until Criterion's release 50 years later, and the adaptation of the US model for Gojira into what became Godzilla.

Very interesting info that I never knew about... Also interesting to see at 6:20 that it was a Rated X release!

I assume there had to have been at least a few Japanese who saw the original version then not long after traveled to the US and watched our bastardized interpretation. Wonder whether they would have been more upset or confused...
